Glengarry Glen Ross would certainly have been livened up by such a killing or two, but I still don't think I'd be particularly enamoured with it.
Pah.

You're British, you should love a movie that's all talking and no killing.

I heard that the fight scenes were kinda iffy in Cinderella Man but that the rest of it was great.

Kage 09-03-2005 04:39 PM

The fight scenes were amazing...it was so intense.

Bartender 09-03-2005 04:41 PM

Have you two argued about films before, or am I thinking of someone else?
Pah.

Maybe I already liked too many such films when I happened upon Glengarry Glen Ross. What I call my favourite film is pretty much all talking, actually.

Kage 09-03-2005 04:42 PM

Nope, that was us.

Illmatic 09-03-2005 04:44 PM
The fight scenes were amazing...it was so intense.
Really?

I heard they were way too jittery and that there were too many crazy zoom-ins and camera angles and that you had no idea who was punching who

What is your favourite film then?

Lord Abortion 09-03-2005 04:49 PM

He may have a point about us lot you know

I haven't seen either Kill Bill

but I have seen any possible Zombie film I could get my paws on...so touché

That was kind of the effect...it was a little bit chaotic, but pretty brutal and intense. That's the way I saw it anyway. Regardless, I loved the movie. Best boxing film since Raging Bull, I'd say.

Bartender 09-03-2005 04:55 PM
What is your favourite film then?
Withnail and I.

You've done well; I hated Kill Bill, and zombie films are awesome.

Lord Abortion 09-03-2005 05:02 PM

So have you...Withnail and I is my favourite film too...

my top 10 goes

1. withnail and I
2. American history X
3. Jay and silent Bob strike back
4. Donnie Darko
5. South Park the Movie
6. Goodfellas
7. Girl, Interrupted (screw you guys before you comment)
8. Dawn of the Dead
9. Pirates of the carribean
10.Master and commander

Illmatic 09-03-2005 05:05 PM

I'm thinking of seeing The Dirty Dozen next. I haven't seen it but it has Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Jim Brown, Donald Sutherland, John Cassavetes, and Telly Savalas, so it's probably great.
10.Freddie got fingered
For shame.

superpeer 09-03-2005 05:09 PM

Withnail and I? Call me a martian, but I've never heard of it.

Kage 09-03-2005 05:11 PM

It's a British comedy isn't it? I've never seen it.

Bartender 09-03-2005 05:13 PM

I don't have a Top 10. Never thought to make one, to be honest. Not sure if I could.
Withnail and I? Call me a martian, but I've never heard of it.
It seems to be a very British thing. It's a film from the late 80s, set in the late 60s (and so thankfully bereft of the awful synth-pop music that almost ruins a lot of otherwise fine films from the 80s) about two unemployed actors who drink a lot, who decide to go for a weekend in the country. That's about it as far as plot goes.

thickasabrick 09-03-2005 05:34 PM

Alright guys....Scarface is on tonight back to back. Once at seven o'clock, and once at ten thirty. I'm not sure if I should watch it at seven, then go out with my friends...or go out with my friends, and then go back to my place and watch it at ten thirty. Maybe I'll just invite my friends to watch it. Who doesn't like Scarface? I've never met anyone that doesn't like Scarface.

Bartender 09-03-2005 05:38 PM

I think it's overlong, or at least that it drags out too much towards the end. I do like it, though.

Hell...I listen to The Allman Brothers.

edit- Dammit, I think I just stole that joke from Family Guy. :upset:

I'm not sure. I watched it at a friend's house, and we both disliked it greatly. Maybe we did something wrong somehow, which made us both dislike it more than we would have.

It's good, but I hate kids who masturbate to Al Pacino's face and think it's the best movie in history.

thickasabrick 09-03-2005 05:45 PM

I've
Never
Seen
Kill
Bill.

How's that for a statement. (although I love Tarantino, and I've heard great things about the film...I don't achieve a lot of my goals)

edit - ^^ I never knew people did that!!

Did you see both parts together? The first one was more action oriented and the second brought the story together, but you really needed both to make it the complete film it really was. You also have to be in the right mood for it I guess.

thickasabrick 09-03-2005 06:04 PM

Hey Zeppelinfan....what was up with the Lorax anyways? I hope you don't mind me asking. I think I remember reading the book, but I don't remember what it's about. He's a crazy fellow.

Lord Abortion 09-03-2005 06:12 PM

and so's Freddie got fingered...Tom Green is great.

No, I just saw the first part. I didn't bother seeing the second because I disliked the first so much :)

He's kind of a pacifist/environmentalist character, which I idnetify with. On top of that he's a badass and such, so I identify with that too ;)

Ah, they are so different though, the second one really completes the second. I'd suggest seeing it at least once just because it's so different.

Bartender 09-03-2005 06:20 PM

I might watch it if I get the chance, then.
I'm disgraceful. :(
Ah I see. Sounds like a cool guy. Does he speak in rhyme?

I've never seen Freddy Got Fingered, never even wanted to. I recently got the movie Alice's Restaurant (library's have the coolest movies) and it's pretty good. Not what I expected, but in some way what it's sort of exactly what I expected.

Does anyone else get extremely sentimental at the end of the movie Blow? Maybe I just have a thing for movies about bad guys (or coke dealers even...Goodfellas is another great one), but I've cried before while watching Blow.

edit- I forgive you Splat Out Plath (is that your name? I can't remember, it's kinda tricky) but you should definitely see Scarface...I've never seen the other one so I can't judge.

Kurtz 09-03-2005 06:30 PM

Well in terms of feeling sympathetic with "bad guys" at the end of movies, I felt horrible at the end of Das Boot.

But of course. One of the most famous/commonly quoted lines:
"Unless someone like you...cares a whole awful lot...nothing is going to get better...It's not."

thickasabrick 09-03-2005 06:46 PM

This guy knew what he was talking about! A true poet!

Did he get revenge on something?

I loved Kill Bill. I've never seen scarface though, I don't think it really can be the greatest film ever though, since it's a remake, so it loses points for not being original. ;)

NP: Cypress Hill - Lick a shot

ah, just changed: Death - Land of no Return

It's Johnny Depp, he makes you feel sorrow about it.
Great film

Well he was the main character. He's a good actor though, I recently saw that movie The Ninth Gate for the first time. I had been avoiding it because I thought it was a horror movie, and I get scared easily...it wasn't scary though. Who wouldn't like a movie with Johnny Depp starring as a book detective.

Scarface is certainly not the greatest film ever. I'm not sure where you even got that notion, to be honest. For a better, yet somewhat similar movie with Al Pacino in it, watch Carlito's Way if you haven't seen it. That's an amazing movie.

I don't know how you'd feel about Sleepy Hollow then...

He's excellent in that.

I haven't seen him in a bad role to be honest

Leper 09-03-2005 07:02 PM

Sleepy Hollow's actually the only Johnny Depp film I haven't liked so far.

Yeah I wouldn't say it's the greatest. It's in my top ten favourites for sure though. Never seen Carlito's Way. Or Sleepy Hollow for that matter. I watched Finding Neverland on a plane one time and I think I was the only person that stayed awake to see it. I enjoyed it...Johnny Depp always plays honourable roles in films. Hahaha...if you're the type of guy who finds being a pirate honourable. I sure am.

Me too...Pirates and Zombies are my two favourite things.
Pirates of the carribean had supernatrual Pirates- I went to a happy place
Pirates of the carribean...why the hell isn't that on my list... screw other things
I forgot to put it on...
Crap..and master and commander

out goes the last two and in go those
