Actually my Spanish teacher's last name is "Sanchaz". Spellings vary.

And you forgot the tilde on "Seņor".

MalcolmYoungRock 05-01-2005 04:46 PM

It's the internet.

Jesus.

Anyone heard "Veterans of the Psychic Wars" by BOC?

Good song.
Yeah I really wanna see that movie. Maybe I will rent it for tonight! I always watch movies on Sunday nights. I love Johnny Depp. I heard in the movie they just find like a huge amount of drugs or something, then just have a wild time with them.
.
Yeah, it's basically about a wild drug binge throughout Las Vegas. It's bizarrely good.

Sorry 'bout the triple post, people, this thread moves too fast for me:(.

Canadian_Guy, who is the guy x'd out in your avatar?

/kind of likes some of his songs :upset:

Badmoon 05-01-2005 05:52 PM

that well as it is.

Ok, I've read the book and seen the movie so I'll explain it.

In it, Raoul Duke/Hunter S. Thompson (Depp) is assigned to go cover a dirtbike race in Las Vegas. Duke then decides for the "American Dream" in Vegas. So he and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) load up on drugs ("two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole multi colored collection of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers...also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls") and drive down there and go on one huge trip.

An absolute must-see. Depp's best movie, IMO. Apparently he spent a month and a half at Hunter S. Thompson's ranch in Colorado to get Thompson's voice and mannerisms right, and he turns in a brilliant performance.

Glitterati 05-01-2005 05:59 PM

It's got a good sountrack, too. Jefferson Airplane, the Stones, Bob Dylan, everything.

np: Led Zeppelin - I Can't Quit You Baby

Illmatic 05-01-2005 06:02 PM

The Yardbirds, too.

That was completely random, I know. But that was a memorable part of the movie, and "For Your Love" was playing during it.

I love those bluesey LZ songs like that and You Shook Me, Since I've Been Loving You etc.

Illmatic 05-01-2005 06:05 PM

Well, different strokes for different folks.

Then you must love In My Time of Dying? One of the more underrated Zep songs. (If there is such a thing  )

Yeah, I've been listening to the Coda album a lot lately. Wearing & Tearing is amazing.

I sure do :D

I still have to get Coda

MalcolmYoungRock 05-01-2005 07:00 PM

I don't really want Coda.

Walrus Gumboot 05-01-2005 07:17 PM
I don't really want Coda.
I am counting on finding it on vinyl at someone's garage sale eventually

Speaking of, way to abandon the LZ thread :upset:

TheDMV 05-01-2005 07:22 PM

I never see old albums at garage sales. It dissapoints me.:upset:

I'm glad to see that you guys like In My Time of Dying though. THey other LZ song that I find is really underrated (I have only heard once or twice) is the lemon song. For me that's a true blues rock masterpiece. THe band seems to really mesh well on that song.

The bassline is incredible, and I say that as a bassist, if that adds any credibility

TheDMV 05-01-2005 07:37 PM

The bass part is one of the main reasons I like it too. I'm saying that as a bassist as well.

lunch998 05-01-2005 07:40 PM

I hope JPJ doesn't see this. He doesn't need anymore fuel for his fire.

PinkFreud 05-01-2005 07:43 PM

this is true, saying this as a drummer, guitarist, and car singer. there are rumors that it was actually page though.

i agree with med too. im wide awake, its morning isnt that bad.

Mr. Hankie 05-01-2005 07:46 PM

They should make this the official classic rock thread.

lunch998 05-01-2005 07:48 PM
They should make this the official classic rock thread.
It's pretty much implied, because they are no other threads on Classic Rock. This is our own community, basically.

PinkFreud 05-01-2005 07:50 PM

its listed as one anyway in sonorken's rules thread.

TheDMV 05-01-2005 07:50 PM

THere isn't really any need for more ***Official*** threads. Every body just posts like it is the official one. If you see a thread about a certain band, you'll probably post in there. Nobody floods the forums with same-topik'd threads.

My dad got tickets to that Buddy Guy show yesterday. I'm excited, but I don't think I'm going to the same show as you, because Allman Bros. weren't listed with him.

But still, I'm going to see Buddy Guy :D :D :D :D :D

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 05-01-2005 07:59 PM

So who'd everyone vote for?

lunch998 05-01-2005 08:00 PM

I couldn't decide if Gilmour was going to do very well or if he was going to need my help. I voted for him, though.

ATM 05-01-2005 08:01 PM

Frank Zappa

magicbus 05-01-2005 08:06 PM
yeah, any buddy is good buddy. its going to be so sweet man. i just bought my tickets today.
Seriously, I hear he puts on a hell of a live show. Like, one of the best ever. I'm so happy, he's a big influence to me.

I voted for Zappa.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 05-01-2005 08:08 PM

I haven't voted yet. I have a feeling this could be a close one.

TheDMV 05-01-2005 08:10 PM

^ I probably should have waited. I probably would have ended up voting for Iommi any way. Do only two advance?
