It's intellectually stimulating and danceable
but it's only intellectually stimulating if you think static on the tv is some genius **** and it's not danceable at all

Jaundice 07-20-2009 05:07 PM

Listen to early Cluster and act like its slow, rhythmless swagger doesn't make you want to do a little jig

Meatplow 07-20-2009 05:10 PM
What exactly is a granulator filter? Is that the thing for chopping up and processing samples, or something else?
I couldn't give you a precise technical definition but as far as I can describe it makes any audio input "grainy", of which you can intensify and randomise the grains until its ultra distorted and sounds like noise.

iamtherobots 07-20-2009 05:11 PM

Just finished uploading my karaoke submission, check it out guys!

ugh i don't want to though

i've downloaded a lot of random noise on blogs that's heralded as some crazy unbelievable **** and then it turns out to just be garbage with no point

if it has no rhythm or melody or story or even emotion can it even be called music? like wtf

it's cool if there's like some noisey elements added to actual music like yellow swans or boredoms but pure noise...ugh

Jaundice 07-20-2009 05:13 PM

I figured that's what you were talking about. Funny you should mention it, about 95% of the sounds I use for pink and yellow are made from the granulizer.

I could definitely make some noise with it but it would require live knob-tweaking so I would need to find out how to work this MIDI controller already.

you learn to dismiss these things as necessary when you understand the joy of unusual frequencies being manipulated in unlistenable ways

Jaundice 07-20-2009 05:19 PM

just get into the Cluster II album. It's from the seventies and it's not even remotely harsh. It's a lot like drone but with more going on and it's lots of mechanical and alien sounds rather than guitars. There's even some melody and rhythm thrown in. Not noise music in the strict sense but it's what got me into it.

i'm not sure what DAW you are using (I think you said it was FL Studio), but it shouldn't require any live knob-tweaking as such just to use a granulator. If the program has VST support i'd check out this free plug-in, I don't do any knob tweaking at all and it works pretty well (171 KB) -

http://koen.smartelectronix.com/KTGranulator/

I use this minimoog plug-in here to tap into some basic noise frequencies, which I then fuck around with later -

http://www.macmusic.org/software/version.php/lang/en/id/8284/

Meatplow 07-20-2009 05:24 PM

wrong minimoog actually, I use that one too (and it is better) but this one is free - http://glenstegner.com/softsynths.html

Jaundice 07-20-2009 05:28 PM

Knob-tweaking isn't necessary by any means, but it's useful if you're gonna do stretched out noises and have the tone/pitch/speed of the grains change as it goes along. Makes it more dynamic I guess. And yeah I'm still using FL.

I'll definitely check out those links, I'm just starting to discover plug-ins. I went ahead and downloaded a bunch of chiptune VST's the other day and they're pretty dangerous.

Meatplow 07-20-2009 05:32 PM

toad, peach, triforce etc? they are pretty fun

it does make it more dynamic, I wouldn't mind a decent MIDI keyboard but i'm getting by with limited mouse control for the moment. i'm not being too ambitious with what i'm making until I learn a little more ;)

still trying to grips with absynth, its pretty much the ultimate i'm guessing

C.O.A. 07-20-2009 05:33 PM

hey Meatplow, you wouldn't happen to have any waffles invites?

i have a revolution tt invite if you want to trade. its a pretty dope general private tracker.

illmitch 07-20-2009 05:36 PM
yeah i hate noise why do people listen to it so much
there's some cool noise rock

listen to brainbombs and flipper

Jaundice 07-20-2009 05:36 PM

We do not trade invites this is illegal and morally wrong.

Yeah, toad, peach, minerva, magic 8bit machine, Basic c64 emulator, I think that's about it. I got really ambitious a month or two ago and bought a laptop and a synth/MIDI controller and now that I think about it in retrospect I might have been being a bit pretentious. I don't have too much use for it all as of yet.

Meatplow 07-20-2009 05:38 PM

Nice.

probably not for a month or so (i just invited somebody I had been promising for precisely that length of time) but if you leave an email I wouldn't mind inviting you when I get one

Jaundice 07-20-2009 05:40 PM

So I have until tomorrow to write a 35 song playlist for the radio station. This playlist will not actually be aired, I just have to make one to prove that I can, I believe.

Starting work on this now, have six songs so far. Gonna be kinda lame

illmitch 07-20-2009 05:43 PM

are you trying to work for them or something like that?

C.O.A. 07-20-2009 05:48 PM

okay cool

thanks!

Meatplow 07-20-2009 05:50 PM

got it :)

Jaundice 07-20-2009 05:50 PM
are you trying to work for them or something like that?
Yeah, it's a seven week apprenticeship

Although I now have a sneaking suspicion that even if I get the job, I might not get paid; It's a non-commercial FM station hosted from the basement of a university.

illmitch 07-20-2009 05:52 PM

that's awesome. i started hanging out with the guys who run the metal show for the radio station for my school (university of kansas), i'm considering trying to hop on and keep the eliteness going. it's unpaid though.

i would love to do that even if i didn't get paid.

sounds fun.

illmitch 07-20-2009 05:55 PM

yeah, the guys are really chill too and listen to some elite ****. once i go back to school and move onto campus i'm definitely gonna start going to the show again.

Jaundice 07-20-2009 05:58 PM

I'd like to get paid but I don't mind really, if I get the spot I'll only be doing a couple hours a week anyway.

Besides, I probably sub-consciously only got into it as an excuse to hang out with the British girl that does the industrial show, I don't see enough of her these days.

Nah but on a serious note I've been knowing about the station for a few years now and I've always been kind of interested in it

jrowa001 07-20-2009 06:01 PM

my school has a pop station and an asian hip-hop/trance station. both suck really bad. i would start up a metal station if my school would let me

Jaundice 07-20-2009 06:17 PM

There are one or two socialites/studs here.

Morumbar 07-20-2009 06:21 PM

Anyway, I'm bored and tired. I'm gonna go read a nerdy fantasy book (The Hobbit) and go to sleep.

purplefeet 07-20-2009 07:39 PM

I handle all the web stuff for 2 radio stations and it's amazing what people will take the time to write in and complain about. It's RADIO.

C.O.A. 07-20-2009 07:39 PM

Anybody here into the show Weeds?

1338 h4x0r 07-20-2009 07:39 PM

I can't believe any of our mods would be so fucktarded as to delete an entire thread because of a few nude pictures that don't even have vag in them

There again

We do have pate
