i called one shop about rentals for lights and sound for a concert we're putting on (i'm part of a non-profit group), and they used to do battle of the bands for free at the school we're holding it at.

so i talked to the guy who used to run it, he said there shouldn't be a problem with us getting it for free, i just have to call monday and get confirmation with the guy in charge now.


so i called another big shop in the city, explained our group to him, and he goes "so let me get this straight. you're crawling to me looking for free stuff? we don't do free." and was totally negative about it the whole time.

i know just about 0 about what is needed, which is why i called the first shop, because they know the room, etc. but he was like "well i need a list of everything you need." so i asked for a rough estimate of what he thinks would be needed, he puts me on hold, picks up 2 minutes later and says "yeah, an estimate is useless. i need specifics. call back later."

two par trees with red/green/blue/magenta (four lights per tree, one tree per side). wire each like color together so you have a red control, green control, blue control, and magenta control. then play around as needed.

and a relatively dece PA system, run it in mono, a 3-way cross for subwoofer, mid, and some tweety horns. That or some active speakers (some JBL's or some Yamaha's) would do well.
