Interview Part 2

-------------------
(...)
-------------------
SW: What was that with the radio at the 100 Club gig?

JS: Well, all that was...I' d been lucky and bought a cheap transistor in a junk shop for ten bob and it worked quite well. I'd been going around with it on my ear for a few days just to se what it was like. When someone broke a string I got it out and it just happened to be something about Northern Ireland.

MJ: A state of emergency...

SW: Yeah, bombs...I thought it was interesting: I thought maybe it was part of the way you approach your audience.

MJ: That was part of it, but we've tried other things since then, like at the Roundhouse...er...we "talked" to the audience...

JS: But they were half asleep...

MJ: The ones who were awake were pretty clever.

JS: I didn't think so, I mean YOU could hear them, I couldn't. How can I answer smartass jibes when I can't even hear them? All I could hear was some girl saying "nyah nyah nyah!" and then everyone goes "aha, ha, ha" (bursts out laughing.) If you can't hear what they're saying, then you can't really get out your great wit!

MJ: Well, I'm sure they were funny cause everyone was laughing at them, but when Joe said something like, you know, "Fuck off, fatso!" there was just complete silence! (more laughter)

-------------------
(...)
-------------------
SW: What do you think of bands that just go out and enjoy themselves?

MJ: You know what I think, I think they're a bunch of ostriches: they're sticking their heads in the fucking sand! They're enjoying themselves at the audience's expense. They're taking their audience for a ride, feeding the audience shit!

SW: What if the audience say they're enjoying themselves ?

JS: Look, the situation is far too serious for enjoyment, man.Maybe when we're 55 we can play tubas in the sun, alright then to enjoy yourselves, but now!

MJ: I think if you wanna fuckin' enjoy yourselves you sit in an armchair and watch tv, but if you wanna get actively involved, cause rock n rol's about rebellion. Look, I had this conversation with Bryan James of the ****ed and we were sreaming at each other for about 3 hours cause he stands for enjoying himself and I stand for change and creativity.

JS: I'd rather play to an audience and them not enjoy it, if we were doing what we thought was honest. Rather than us go up and sing "Get outta Denver, baby", and do what we didnt think was honest.

Let Fury Have The Hour.

CombatRock 05-16-2005 07:30 PM

was it just a big book of interviews?

Coma_Girl 05-16-2005 07:39 PM

no, it's a chapter of the book and the chapter is called "the very angry clash" and it's a gay chapter name, but the best interview ever.

"like trousers, like brain!"

guns_of_brixton 05-16-2005 08:01 PM

Did I already tell you guys that my friend thought Elvis Costello was in the Clash?
Did I already tell you guys that my friend thought Elvis Costello was in the Clash?
Im going to have to beat this guy up.

guns_of_brixton 05-17-2005 03:28 PM
Im going to have to beat this guy up.
No! He's like my best friend, and he's in my new (amazing) band. He said that he saw the Clash tribute thing that Costello was in after Joe died and thought whenever he hears the word "Clash" he sees an image of Elvis Costello.

But I really like his (Costello's) music.

sketchyjoe 05-17-2005 03:29 PM

Costello is cool.

guns_of_brixton 05-17-2005 03:35 PM

guns_of_brixton 05-17-2005 04:36 PM
whats the name of your band sean?
We don't have a name yet :upset:.

Forest_Fire 05-17-2005 05:06 PM

What kind of music?

haha, sean, My "band" considered the name Two Dead Seans for a bit. and then we never practiced and broke up

sketchyjoe 05-17-2005 05:08 PM

I was going to be in a band with some guys I knew but they expected me to listen to The Bled and actually know how to play my instrument.

guns_of_brixton 05-17-2005 05:46 PM
What kind of music?

Two Dead Seans... I like that :D.

The only way to describe our music would be... well, we kind of sound like Weezer did on their first album and like AFI did on Art of Drowning.

cheeser_1 05-17-2005 06:17 PM

making a daring return to this thread: i think costello's old stuff is gold. his new stuff, however, is not at all to my liking.

CombatRock 05-17-2005 06:24 PM

sean what are you playing in your band?

cheeser_1 05-17-2005 06:49 PM
sean what are you playing in your band?
CombatRock 05-17-2005 06:50 PM

instrument.

Coma_Girl 05-17-2005 06:59 PM

Forest_Fire 05-17-2005 07:04 PM

so... has anyone heard the mescaleros' covers of A message to you rudy or Blitzkrieg bop? I really want to hear them, I think it'd be amazing

CombatRock 05-17-2005 07:17 PM
the clash were playing good music
i didnt know about the blitzkrieg bop cover...i'll try to find it.

"they're going thru a thiiiigh wind"

i always listen to the beginning of police and thieves 20 times in a row cause i like when Joe says that. He was way cooler than Joey.

Brain Toad 05-17-2005 07:29 PM

I bet if Joe went by Joey, his politics wouldn't be taken as seriously. It's hard to take a person name dJoey seriously.

Althought you'd think it would be hard to take a guy named Jello seriously.

cheeser_1 05-17-2005 07:36 PM
It's hard to take a person name dJoey seriously.
it's the d that really throws me off. :p

whats Jellos full name?

guns_of_brixton 05-17-2005 08:56 PM
whats Jellos full name?
Eric Boucher, or something like that.

Brain Toad 05-17-2005 09:36 PM

Jello = Eric Boucher.

Johnny isn't as bad as Joey as per seriousness, because Johnny also has rebel kind of things attached to it.

SactoUnited 05-17-2005 09:41 PM

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Joey

Are you serious? Jello's real name is Eric Boucher? It's such a deception...I know a guy named Eric Boucher...but he's not Jello and he's kinda gay.
Is he french canadian or something...

sketchyjoe 05-18-2005 09:02 AM

He's from Colorado.

CombatRock 05-18-2005 02:03 PM

i know what Sandinistia is. it was in my history book. i forgot though. haha. also the word Biafra was in my history book in the same chapter.

guns_of_brixton 05-18-2005 02:18 PM

Sandinista was a rebellion/revolution in Nicaragua (I think) and the Republic of Biafra was some place where alot of people starved because of some thing that I don't remember.

I think...

Jessizzle 05-18-2005 02:23 PM

Is it possible you have run outa Joe Strummer things to talk about yet? :(
