noon are you done with an album yet

(*The Sacred Chao*) 03-25-2012 11:37 AM

pretty much, should be in a week or so, i mean im pretty much done the final tracklist we're gonna put out two albums at once on the label salient sounds, waiting for both us to finish that now

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:38 AM

is a cheap midi keyboard and the newest reason enough to get started making beats

NEEDTOPOST 03-25-2012 11:38 AM

noon's album is great

listened to it like maybe 8 times now without feeling obligated

you dont even really need a midi keyboard tbh

(*The Sacred Chao*) 03-25-2012 11:39 AM

i dont need a usb keyboard if you can use a piano roll/midi editor

maybe on less sample based beats its more complicated without a good setup

but either way you can make something hard/bangin on any setup

wuvvly

btw theres gonna be a final version with some track changes, ill give you that ahead of time

Gorgon 03-25-2012 11:44 AM

some advice I've got for the bass on the first song: don't be afraid to add in notes to chords sometimes. A simple example: instead of playing the root add in a 7th or 9th.

Also I don't know if you mean to do this or not but some of you bass parts are pretty busy when the guitar parts are busy as well, I'd recommend not doing that and just letting the guitars take precedence. like the part around 1:50 in Marquis Comb, I think your bass part is a bit too complicated but that might just be me.

I can't really comment on how you're playing your parts because I can't hear it :\

I do like your music though

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:45 AM

i just feel tracking beats by hand with a keyboard would be loads easier

I'm actually so fucking excited
I missed the upload you put for the unfinished one cause I went to school :(

it is, but the latency in a project with a certain amount of increasing vsts/processing power eventually becomes hard to work with

it's preferable obviously to have a midi controller

yeah I think with good production it would mesh better. also I don't just play root notes but yeah its probably hard to hear cause we tracked the bass with a KICK DRUM MIC when i told him just to bring a regular dynamic (fucking retard) so the main shit that is picked up is just the low end thud

is there a diff between a midi controller and a midi keyboard?

also i do have a decently powerful pc with a quad core processor

I just wanna be able to record real time takes of me playing different parts of beats so it has that handmade slightly off quality flylo does so well

heres some thing i guess

Gorgon 03-25-2012 11:53 AM

@noon
can you message it to me on Last.fm? goranp13 is my username :)

@ethan
and ahh ok well yeah it is hard to hear. and I know you don't just play root notes but sometimes it's better to just do that or to extend the chord and not do an actual riff

aside
this summer my two friends and I are probably going to start some weird projects. I know I am going to work on a rap project with them where I'll be doing lyrics, one friend will MC and the other will work on beats and then we'll collab. The beats my friend has showed me so far are like nothing I've heard for rap so I think it'll be interesting at least.
He's studying jazz and writes mostly other things so the ideas he's got for rap are barely hiphop.

hope I get as much positive feedback as noon, elim and ethan instead of being another carbonized gnawing mandible

they're both midi controller

you should be fine, just get the software

as for the last part, that's actually called groove and will come out no matter how you do it, good idea though i'm working at developing a writing style that is a part of my computer stuff and guitar and live instruments to perform

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:58 AM

what do you use?

from what Ive seen the newest reason seems awesome

fwooty loops

publicastration 03-25-2012 12:01 PM

i dont like the beat sequencer for FL its too rigid

(*The Sacred Chao*) 03-25-2012 12:03 PM

it's really annoying to work around but it's what i'm used to

i was thinking of trying some other daws

StaffReviewer 03-25-2012 12:03 PM

i dont think reason's sequencer is all that different from fruity loops. i've never really used it though

publicastration 03-25-2012 12:04 PM

naw you can set drum samples and then just track them like a live instrument in reason

Gorgon 03-25-2012 12:05 PM

yeah that's what I do in reason
much better

does anyone know if 2 people can use 1 license of Reason 6? I have 4 and want to upgrade for recording puproses with my friends but we each need a copy :S

publicastration 03-25-2012 12:05 PM
and I know you don't just play root notes but sometimes it's better to just do that or to extend the chord and not do an actual riff
I do a mixture of both, idk you'd have to hear a better recording but personally I think the way I play bass sounds cool and is different and gives our band a different feel

I'm not a "bassist" so I approach it differently in a way that might not be technically correct but whatever

(*The Sacred Chao*) 03-25-2012 12:08 PM

i track each drum layer/instrument/sound by channel and then into the mixer, and then branching organized groupings to affect the sound at wherever i go, same with everything else

fruity loops forces you to micromanage some things but i think those things can offer variety

publicastration 03-25-2012 12:09 PM
