yeh, eddie, you're right :(

WE DEMAND FRAIL

GreatCornholio 09-29-2004 12:32 PM

I've started listening to maiden a lot recently, their 2 albums i have are powerslave, and the best of. but they're really the only metal band i listen to. What other bands do ya think are similar to maiden (powermetal i think its called) and are worth listening to?
cheers.

GurS 09-29-2004 12:35 PM

Powermetal is like In Flames (moot)

Maiden are NWOBHM, New Wave Of British Heavy Metal.

so i suggest checking out other NWOBHM bands, such as sampson (bruce's old band) and judas priest. you may want to check out Paul Di'Anno and the Killers, too

Thunder Fingers 09-29-2004 01:10 PM

if the guy wants power metal: Stratovarius are masters there.

Judas priest is nothing like maiden(Maiden is SOOOOO much better)... and bruces band was called samson...

rik 09-29-2004 01:15 PM

Has anyone heard janicks old band "white spirit" (I think, can't remember). They any good?

Shady Ultima 09-29-2004 01:27 PM

I just picked up Iron Maiden, and Piece of Mind, both are amazing albums. I really like Paul's voice, this being the first I heard from him, it's not better than Bruce, but it's kinda interesting. I love Remember Tomorrow, especially when he hold "SKY" so long and high. And The Trooper is the best Iron Maiden song ever.

Stratovarius and Blind Guardian are the two easiest to get into, and still my favourites....you know im a power metal fiend!!!

YDload 09-29-2004 02:19 PM

What were those Iron Maiden songs that best exemplified "power metal" again? I saw the question answered before when I didn't have as many albums, but now I think I've got more examples in my personal collection again (like Flash of the Blade?).

ed hunter 09-29-2004 02:21 PM

does anybody else find the older a maiden album is the more you like it? by older i mean the longer you have owned it. because powerslave is by far my newest maiden album and its the 1 i dont like as much they always seem to take me a while to get into, peice of mind and dance of death did as well has any body else found that (i love peice of mind and dance of death as much as any other dont get me wrong)

FrailandBedazzled1979 09-29-2004 02:22 PM

umm in some ways a few songs do, like "heaven can wait" with the up-lifting chorus, and "sun and steel" is like an old old style power metal song with its chorus as well. The into to "the prophecy" is as well id say, overall they have the lyrical themes for power metal but the musically they dont play power metal.

my first studio album by them was "no prayer for the dying" and i was obsessed with every song on it, probley why i hail it as such an underated album. I still find that to be one of my most played albums by them, the newest is Dance of Death because i had all their albums previous to that being released and i couldnt have been happier with it :)

FrailandBedazzled1979 09-29-2004 02:26 PM
where is Frail? this thread have gone downwards since he dissapeard...
oh, yes i know :D power metal is an rather fun music style, Stratovarius are exelent, blind guardian are good to, and Rhapsody, great on their instruments, their lyrics i just find funny  great to have you back :thumb:

i got to ask you: should i get an jazz or an pbass profile for my Warmoth bass? :p

FrailandBedazzled1979 09-29-2004 02:57 PM

hehe, i was only gone for a few days haha. did you read my Metalliac concert review? it was a grand on indeed (that was saturday). Power metal i think is the most rewarding style to get into because there is so much that can be done with it, its not a limiting genre like black / death metal where there is a set pattern (though i do live black metal, not as big on death). I have sooooooo many differnet power metal bands that ive found, the large majority of them i enjoy alot but i still go back to the leaders of the genre as my favourites :)

for your bass, id go with the P-bass one!! and have you heard any updates about McBrain's damage going on tour?

ashman 09-29-2004 03:08 PM
so's your's, ash :p
I was being Ironic :naughty:

To ed hunter: Well the more I listen to a Maiden album the more I like it...e.g. I used to listen to SSOASS when I was like 2 (I didn't personally buy it or anything, it's just my uncle used to listen to them), and IMO I think its the best album ever.

search for anything deemed NWOBHM - New Wave Of British Heavy Metal

flappersack 09-30-2004 06:25 AM

Some judas priest sounds similar to maiden.
Priest were one of the bands that kickstarted the NWOBHM, of which maiden emerged.

Kingofdudes 09-30-2004 08:31 AM

I just saw Rock in Rio for $14 dollars at the store, should I buy it?
what's that in real money?
If I remember correctly $14 is roughly £8-9. And I thin about 12 in european monopoly money.

ashman 09-30-2004 02:06 PM

OMFG, Metallica have one more vote at this point...that's the ultimate shame
