Mine's shipping atm
|
I just received it today!
Watching the DVD atm. Looks really good. :D:D |
the day I bought the Wii, the DVD came in. Boy was it awesome! Nothing like me being there though. I can only imagine what it would have been like to been at Leeds in '70!
|
Not as good as if they had put out Quadrophenia and Who's Next when they did it, I bet.
|
The Who are on BB1 right now for any U.K veiwers.
|
I just listened to Endless Wire (well, I listened to it yesterday, but I've been so busy with my birthday and working and Zelda and such). Its really good. A lot of acoustic stuff, which is meh, but Mirror Door and one other song I can't recall were really, really good.

Hey Who people. I'm starting to miss this thread which is a sure sign of my return. You may of noticed I've been MIA since the gig i attended on Nov.5. I don't know what it is? I feel a little as if the band is coming to an end. A final end. Its kind of sad for me, and of course the nature of the band today is much different then it was even four years ago. Couple that with a Hollywood Bowl gig that saw them do material that i've heard them do live a few times before with the exception of the new stuff and i guess i have a few things to say about the band before i dive into the thread again. The Who are kind of lost on me right now. I need to post about it and clear my thoughts out of the way. But its hard getting it out. Like writing an honest letter to a long time lover after your feelings have changed, although you may still love her/him. I'll get around to it. Long live rock and all that.....hope everyone is well :)

Nooooooooooooooooo Jxd, Don't Leave Us!
|
I'm seeing them on saturday, and I can't wait. I never thought I'd get the chance to see 'em.
To JXD, I too feel this might be one of the final hurrahs for The Who. It's sad in some ways, especially when you care for the band as much as I do. Still, it would be a great end. I mean, they managed to come back with only half of the original members who are both in their 60's to make an interesting and creative album. This is a testament to how great a band they are. |
Yes, they are going out with quite a bang. No doubt about that.
Cheers to them. |
I've lost my Who mojo :upset:
|
Not me. I saw them last night. It was bitchin'.

They're supposed to be getting even better by now. They were freaking amazing a month and a half ago in Calgary, imagine how good that tour is now. |

What'd you think of the new material they played? When I saw them I thought it was all great; I'm anxious to see what other people think. I still haven't picked up Endless Wire yet because I'm a tool. |
I am now in love with Black Widow's Eyes and Man in a Purple Dress. Those are some killer songs.
|
Black Widow's Eyes is an awesome song. Among my favorites from the new album. Mike Post Theme is most likely my fave. Two Thousand Years, Its Not Enough, the extended We Got A Hit and Endless Wire, all are aces in my book...
|
I actually don't liek Mike Post Theme too much. It doesn't have enough balls to it, to be honest. Roger does a fantastic job, but it needed a heavier electric guitar part to it, the light acoustic doesn't cut it.
|
yeah. pete went heavy with the acoustic stuff on the album. i think MPT has some slamming bass and drums, though. and i love the chorus of "ba-ba-ba-bah's. or whatever it is they're saying. and yeah, Roger carries the whole thing, you are right.
'froggys i know you are a drummer. and drums is one of the things sadly missing from this record. a bit more gusto on the Wire & Glass songs perhaps, but meh. i read that not only was Zak unavailable for the album (stupid Oasis) but that Pete actually plays drums on 12 cuts! ok, we all know Pete plays drums he's a decent multi-instrumentalist. but he is no DRUMMER. As in Moon/Jones/Starkey/Huntington (Huntington being the Wire & Glass EP drummer). and whatever anyone thinks of Jones (i know you hate him for The Who) drums were still prominent on the albums he made with them. on the new album they're just kind of non-existent. i gotta bit of a problem with that. anyway guys i'm starting to feel good about posting in this thread again. i still have some reservations about this new thing Rog & Pete have going after all is said and done with the new record, and especially after i saw the show. which was good, but for me something was missing that was there even a few years ago. i don't know if its worth delving into and posting about or if i should just keep discussing the new stuff and going forward as a fan with this band. its just the old Who seem very much gone now. a memory. dust in the wind. and that makes me sad :( anyway, i'm away on business until Thursday. i'll post back up upon my return. take care, everyone. |
Who thread!
cant believe i have missed it. big fan! (Quadrophenia should be a houshold name all over the world.. its simply a lesson in Rock'n'roll!) |
i agree with the Quad thing. its my favorite album ever and yeah, it should be required listening in high school or something. math and english have nothing on it. 11,000 posts and you didn't know we were here? for shame, my good man!
well welcome to The Who thread. its a good place to be on the internets :) |
One of the best for sure.
|
Yeah the album was heavily acoustic oriented. Now the acoustic based songs I like, such as Black Widow's Eyes and Purple Dress and all the others. Its just MPT is not an acoustic song in its arrangement, it doesn't sound too good with just an acoustic, it needs an electric in there. Especially during the "We're not strong enough..." bombastic Punk and Godfather style part, it just needed that electrifiedness to it.
As for the drumming, Zak does one song (can't remember, I'm at college right now burning time between classes), but I think Pete did a pretty decent job. One thing I didn't like is how he used a drum machine during Tea & Theatre, it just doesn't sound right, and doesn't really fit in with the song (when its just the two doing it live, I think its perfect), plus its a fricken drum machine. Unlike you JxD, I wasn't a fan of The Who while John was still alive, so I personally don't know the magic of them being around (or seeing the three of them). Which is probably why I thought it was the greatest concert I had ever seen, because I wasn't around the live the magic and know what it was like before. Now I do feel the same way about The Beatles though, I was a huge fan when George was alive. If, for some odd reason Paul and Ringo got together, I would feel weird about it. |

I still haven't picked up Endless Wire yet because I'm a tool.
I thought the new material was pretty awesome. They did a really good job mixing old stuff with the new ablum. From memory, they did Fragments, Black Widow's Eyes, Man In The Purple Dress, Mike Post, and all of Wire and Glass. They also played about three songs from Tommy, which was cool. Daltrey went through a stack of tambourines during Sparks. They didn't play any of Quadrophenia, which I was really hoping to see (also my favorite album ever), but it was still one of the best shows I've ever seen. |
Oh what a shame, at Hyde Park they played Love Reign O'er Me
But I was hoping for Doctor Jimmy :D |
The Punk And The Godfather is always nice, too.
|
No Quad either at my show, but the Tommy encore was epic.
|
no Quad in favor of the new stuff. fine with me. didn't care much for the Tommy segment. never have....

yes, I know  Though they could have gotten away with Anyhow Anway Anywhere, I've never liked that song, probably my least favorite of the show. |
I would have really liked to hear 4 or 5 songs from quad.
Man, the vocals on the live dvd that comes with the new who album or so bad. When I saw The Who, they sounded great. What's the deal? |
