the only song i dont use the wah for when soloing for is time
thats also the only floyd solo i wont improvise live, ill always play it as close to 'properly' as i can jsut feels like it should be done that way i guess |
So what kind of effects pedal do you have? I have a digitech RP300A. I got it for 200 bucks w/ my Christmas money. Just another reason why Jesus rocks.
To Johnny B. Good: Congrats on the stars. :confetti: |

To Johnny B. Good: Congrats on the stars. :confetti:
I have a boss d-1 (I think) distortion, and a Jimi Hendrix wah, I have a ton of effects built into my amp, and usually play with the combination of reverb and delay, another tip for a Pink Floyd song is "Syds theme" on Shine on You Crazy Dimond sounds great with a tremelo effect |
Magicbus, can you please post your Gmail address again?
Sorry, my mainboard got fried before I could upload those Rick Wright songs for you. |
I picked that album up yesterday *cost me 4 pounds!* and it is great stuff.
Do you know how it was recorded?
I would guess the normal way you'd record an orchestra. An insanely big live-room and insane amounts of overhead microphones, along with individual mikes for the prominent instruments. And lots and lots of money. Recording an orchestra is extremely expensive. |
And technical. I imagine it's a headache for the engineer.
|
Same for slipknot too...maybe.
I think they have enough members as an orchestra. |
And technical. I imagine it's a headache for the engineer.
Bound to be. Orchestral sound engineers tend to be some of the best around though, simply because only top studios can afford the facilities. I know Abbey Road studio 1 has room for a full orchestra AND a choir, which is just silly. |
Same for slipknot too...maybe.

I'm mentally trying to find any common ground between the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Slipknot... The only thing I can find is that they both have more than 8 members
|
I want to be a sound engineer
|
I'm training to be one even now. I've got a Synthetic and Computer Audio Engineering Theory lecture later on today.
Last week's lecture was awesome. We spent the whole thing watching a Goldfrapp DVD, listening to Pink Floyd, The Who and Led Zeppelin. I think the lecturer was a little un-nerved that I could identify every song within a few seconds. On The Run, Baba O'Reilly and No Quarter were all groundbreaking songs in the use of synthesizers, you see. |
I really need to look into what I need to do to get into Engineering. I dont have any idea where I am going to go to college for it, or what courses to take.
I may experiment with recording this summer, when I have the money to buy my own cheap equipment. Edit: Mason gets credit for "On the Run", but Roger claims he didnt do too much for it. I wonder who deserves the real credit for it. |
How old are you? What stage are you at now?
My Uni has two courses, one which requires Music A level, and the other requires Maths A level. I'm on the Maths one - it focuses more on the technical side of things. The idea is we come out of it equally well equipped to use fancy equipment, or design fancy equipment. It's a 5 year Masters degree. |
16, I guess I am at a pretty low stage. My highest math at the moment is Pre-Calc, and I am in Music Theory at the moment.

Just curious, all I've done so far is analog, since I dont have the cash to set my computer up for good multi track recording.. |
Analogue at this stage, though we branch into digital next year.
That said I've been doing some low level digital recording of my own - my laptop now sports a frankly terrifying array of audio software. |

You're exactly where I'm at  |

What college you go to anyways? |

I'd love to work in a studio and experiment with effects and stuff. Is that what you guys are talking about? And Wintermute, what kind of classes did you start with to take that type of course work? Is there a certain engineering class you need to begin with? And I'd looove to get my hands on an old VCS3 synth, but they really expensive and hard to find now. That would be awesome. |
Has anyone heard the "Take Linda Surfin'" album, I did a search and didn't see anyone mention it. It has to be the creepiest album I've ever heard, it sounds like music you'd play at hallo'ween. It also came with a a colouring book page that's called the Official Pink Floyd SuperSonic Cosmic Surfboard Kit, I'll scan a picture of it in a bit.
I would imagine Mason can take quite a lot of credit for On The Run, although that's based largely on the fact that Waters marginalised him to such an extent that I don't think you can take much he says about Mason and Wright all that seriously, which is a genuine shame. And completely off topic, we seem to have lured Wintermute out of the bass forum.
Mason and Wright were seriously underrated by Waters. It's a shame that it ocurred like that. And I can take some kind of credit for Wintermute's defection to the Floyd thread... :p |
So I just checked my latest reps, and I can see 5 neg reps for calling the Tool retards that messed up the polls fanboys. My rep is now down to 84. Meh, doesn't matter, but man those kids are annoying.
|
I'm at the University of Glamorgan, or Prifysgol Morgannwg, as it is in Welsh. I had next to no engineering experience before I started here - they prefer it, but they don't demand it.
As for leaving the bass forum... well, you've got to have some variety, haven't you! :p |

Yeah they are, trying to cheat internet polls... Why would you bother? |

Not sure, but it is stupid as hell. It's a bit of fun for christ sake!
|
So Wintermute, Bartender tells me you are the one to discuss all things beer with, especially the virtues of Cold beer vs Warm beer.
|
Same for slipknot too...maybe.
I think they have enough members as an orchestra.
Please tell me you're kidding. Orchestras > Slipknot in EVERY way. I'm really into recording stuff, but I don't know enough about it. I want to though. How hard is it to get into a program like that? I'm currently 17, have lots of knowledge of music theory, and am in calculus. |
*late*
Were Pink Floyd there and playing during the recording for the RPO covers? |
