Good afternoon all. I am finished with class registration and am enjoying a well-earned day off. I've got a single in a house this year and I'm cooking a lot of my own meals, which rocks.

R+M seems to be sagging a bit topic-wise, I may make a few more Celtic Crossing threads in a while. (o noes series thread!!!!)
I've noticed that no matter how bad a meal may taste to other people, if its cooked by you then you like it (unless there are tons of salt thrown in there) :p

Looking forward to that series. You havent posted anything for a while and I thought you would stop them (even though you havent started them yet!)

I had that one thread on Michael Hedges, but then everybody started complaining about how many series threads there were and I didn't want to deal with "you're just hopping on the bandwagon" bullsh*t.

Arrakakaka 09-02-2005 11:08 AM

I will never give up my search for Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Anybody have it?

Hah...I saw the special 2 CD edition of that today whilst in town for £10.00. I was going to ask someone if it was any good.

I hopped on the band wagon

Meh, I'm glad people are doing series threads, at least there's effort being put in and the resources are all out there to find music that much easier. Plus I enjoy writing mine regardless of whether or not people like them...though mine have thus far had a good response. I'm a little more worried this time because the band is not as well known.

If you like Black Sabbath, they're for you.

I'm going to get it from Overstock.com. They only have 5 copies left!

Cain 09-02-2005 11:18 AM

This post would just ruin the mood. Sorry for bringing another forum's business into here.

My thoughts exactly. However, I'm afraid most people dont take the time to read long texts and they dont care too much about new bands since they're bombed with tons of reccommendations and information every day.

By the way, do you know if other forums have this series thing?

Permanent Solution 09-02-2005 11:21 AM

It's all about elitsim. As soon as something formerly elite becomes the norm the ex-elite users hate it. I really don't care, I'd rather have a great forum and lots of contribution and recognition than mediocrity.

EDIT:This was to Cain

Stoic: I haven't seen them anywhere else I frequent, no. I read a lot of them, there's so much I can't read it all, but it's interesting so I read as much as I can.

Shattered_Future 09-02-2005 11:26 AM

I love doing series threads for some reason...which is weird, because I hate writing.

Meh, I guess when music is put into writing, it makes it much better. :D

I was gonna have band practice today...don't know what happened.

Then I was supposed to go to a movie, but my friend wanted to go to a different theater that we had no way to get to, or else he wouldn't go. Prick.

Everyone here with band practice? I wish I was in a band. :(

Lunch 09-02-2005 01:30 PM

Don't worry, I don't have a band either.

Shadows 09-02-2005 01:32 PM

My trusty drum machine doesn't cut it either. **** this god forsaken Toledo area with its unbelievable lack of musicians!

Stoic 09-02-2005 01:32 PM

yeah dude, I'm worse, I suck at guitar and have given it up :p

i am the robots 09-02-2005 01:32 PM

I have/had a band, but we haven't had practive or anything.... in like... months.

Illmatic 09-02-2005 01:41 PM
Seeing as there are too many stupid people (black, white, or whatever) who will buy into it?

I remember hearing somewhere that a study was taken to show the effects of the recording industry's media on the younger generations, and the results showed that a large portion of people who listen to corporate packaged rappers (i.e. Snoop Dogg et al) either try to become criminals or lie about having committed crimes in the past. They also have taken up a mindset of misogyny, refusing to affiliate with any woman who isn't braindead.

In counterpoint, there is a growing number of women in lower class neighborhoods who are trying to work their way up the economic ladder to eke out a better life and are treated with disdain by the above-mentioned dipshiits.

Now, on the one hand it's a shame that MTV has succeeded in taking a legitimate musical form and turned it into a watered-down sack of crap that results in a "counterculture" that effectively does absolutely nothing.

But... on the other it's probably better that these idiots stay the hell away from intelligent, ambitious women because if they really are going to let a dumbass of a rapper tell them how to live their lives, they clearly aren't the best genestock anyway.
Unfortunately, you seem to be right on the money here.

It's a sad thing that MTV and popular movies have taken the concept of "being black" and turned it into something ugly and demeaning. And it's also sad that most suburban white kids (the kind that don't regularly come into contact with black people, if they come into contact at all) eat it up and buy into it and associate "being black" with that kind of garbage.

If your willing to take a 2 hour treck a few times a week to Cleveland and if you play bass you can join up.

How did you know it would be 2 hours?

If you have a bass than I'll do it. I'll just play with a pick to emulate the feel of a guitar.

i am the robots 09-02-2005 02:02 PM

Yes he is, don't lie

RiceMonster 09-02-2005 02:06 PM

I haven't been able to practise with my band in a while. My band doesn't have a drummer yet anyway, so it's not techincally a band. :(

Shadows 09-02-2005 02:06 PM

Just buy a cheap drum machine. It's a pain in the *** to program but it's extremely reliable.

i am the robots 09-02-2005 02:07 PM

My band has the members and everything, and we're all quite capable of what we do [thank god they don't want me to growl, lol], but we haven't gotten to practice in so long.

Also me and my friend John [The Chalupa] are doing a two man Death Metal project [as soon as we get a drum machine] called Boner Soup.

Just program drums on the computer. Download Fruity Loops or something.

Shadows 09-02-2005 02:15 PM

Me and a friend have been planning on doing a goregrind project, but so far nothing. :( We're not bad guitarists but we'll be hard-pressed to find a suitable vocalist.

Moses 09-02-2005 02:16 PM

Jeeze I haven't been on here in a while and a half, someone let me know what's up. Anything new?

I'm here on my first day of school... hooray...

I also promise to have my Wagner FA up soon if anyone cares.

Possibly, IDK yet, I think just having a Drum Machine would be better in the long run... just to have a Drum Machine.

EDIT: The project is most likely going to be me playing guitar and doing vocals, and John doing lead guitar and bass and then we're just gonna figure out drum tracks later :-/.

How are you planning on playing live with 1 person doing guitar and bass. What you should do is you should play lead and rhythm guitar, and vocals, and he should play bass, and drum machine.

They don't have to play live. I've started recording music with mulitple parts completely by myself. I have no plans of ever playing live with it, only with my band.

Endless Obsession 09-02-2005 02:27 PM

Playing live is the greatest thing in the world. I love it. Its so incredible to be doing what you love, and looking out and seeing people moshing. Wow. its THE best.

i am the robots 09-02-2005 02:30 PM

Uhh... we could get my friend Vince to play guitar, and my friend Shane to play bass if we really wanted to.

munky_magik 09-02-2005 02:48 PM

Stoic 09-02-2005 03:27 PM

My Uni is in the city I live. Uni without moving is not cool at all :(

"I never realized how complicated it would be moving to uni,"

yeah, it was like replying to an invisible post :p
