a CD player *is* a specially dedicated player. and you can get heaps of dedicated players for USB/Flash drives. more common today are CD-players/stereos/whatever with mini-jack inputs or whatever for connecting MP3-players and so forth. but soon enough USB/Flash drives will be more more common.

kitsch 12-29-2009 02:07 PM

did u know soon we are going to have usb ports in our skulls

christsimpson 12-29-2009 02:57 PM

I didn't really bother reading what you wrote because I just don't care but anyway, gaice I just re-uploaded stuff to my ex-band's MySpace! http://www.myspace.com/indietrash

SICK. the first track is totally how the new Burzum album will be. it has both the lo-fi drone guitars AND the long ambient synth tracks. all at the same time! okay maybe not Burzum's newest album, but definitely some unheard demo of Burzum, covered by a Canadian nsbm band. or something like that at least.
computers and flash/usb drives will make CDs extinct. there are laptops without dvd-drives now (netbooks). why? because CDs are dinosaurs. use a USB dongle. like an iPod.
just like cd's made vinyl and casettes extinct right?

christsimpson 12-29-2009 03:07 PM
just like cd's made vinyl and casettes extinct right?
your argument is completely and utterly flawed. try to read up on the discussion before you go ahead and spoil it all by saying something stupid like I loooooooooovvvvvvvveeeeeee yoooooooouuuuuuu.
your argument is completely and utterly flawed. try to read up on the discussion before you go ahead and spoil it all by saying something stupid like I loooooooooovvvvvvvveeeeeee yoooooooouuuuuuu.
I read up on the discussion, I'm just pointing out that your statement is wrong you ******.

whitesquares 12-29-2009 03:22 PM
Not w/o purchasing a specially dedicated player and/having a specially dedicated input or radio transmitter that usually isn't standard.
I have one standard in my mom's Jeep Cherokee.

There's one standard in my girlfriend's VW Rabbit, too.

Just an audio jack you plug into the mp3 player and it plays through your car's speakers. No need for a Belkin transmitter or anything.

whitesquares 12-29-2009 03:28 PM
So you still have that stand alone MP3 player that
you're plugging in that didn't come with the car.
...that I would have bought anyway. That's an awful argument, man.

You're arguing a losing battle. No matter how right you think you are or how hard you fight against it, MP3s are taking over CDs. Fact.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just telling you how it is.

whitesquares 12-29-2009 03:30 PM

Plus, all the money I'd be spending on CDs can just as easily be put aside for an mp3 player.

whitesquares 12-29-2009 03:35 PM

8 traks, tapes, abacuses, etc., all still have uses, too.

I'm saying you should be a robot, blindly give into progress, and give Apple more of your money and buy an iPod like a good little sheep.

Or be cool and get an Archos 5 because it smokes iPods.

christsimpson 12-29-2009 03:39 PM
And my whole point is that CDs still have a use if I don't have a couple of hundred dollars to buy an MP3 player. Did you read anything up there?
didn't read thoroughly on this page or whatever but MP3-players don't cost that much. my iPod Shuffle cost like $40.

RetiredAt21 12-29-2009 03:42 PM

Who gives a **** nerds.

christsimpson 12-29-2009 03:56 PM

so the CD will not be extinct because you have an old car with a CD-player in it? makes sense...

witchxrapist 12-29-2009 03:57 PM

I use a CD player and CD's still.

It's crazy how so many bands still release their albums on CD... you know, since it's DYING OUT OH MY GOD.

witchxrapist 12-29-2009 03:58 PM
so the CD will not be extinct because you have an old car with a CD-player in it? makes sense...
So the CD will be extinct because a new format came about? Your argument makes zero sense.

Once more, bands still put stuff out on Vinyl and Casette, it will be the same thing with CDs.

Also, extinct would imply its completely out of use, so yeah, some people using it in their cars would prove it's not extinct.

Jaundice 12-29-2009 05:10 PM

CD's aren't going out any time soon, they're still the most recent and modern advancement in actual physical releases .

christsimpson 12-29-2009 05:17 PM

hi,

that's blu-rays. not CDs. CDs are only somewhat decent for music albums by artists that like coming up with artwork and packaging and stuff.

cobert 12-29-2009 05:22 PM

xREPRESENTx

christsimpson 12-29-2009 05:30 PM

CDs are used by artists who can't afford pressing vinyl. blu-rays are optical, but they are as well becoming obsolete at a rapid pace due to increased broadband capacity.

in a century or two, optical mediums will only be used in/for poor countries. that's pretty much the scenario now even. major labels are giving up on CDs, so the only musicians who'll use CDs are those who want to make cool packaging and/or can't afford vinyl pressings. motion pictures and video games will rely on digital distribution as well. this is a trend that's been present since the Napster revolution.

whitesquares 12-29-2009 05:33 PM

sup cob?

christsimpson 12-29-2009 05:50 PM
So they aren't useless like you initially said. By having a use, even if it's niche, by definition, it isn't useless.
I initially said that it won't survive like analogue mediums do.it won't even have actual niches like vinyl does. it will just be for... like poor countries and stuff. but it'll most definitely just end up dying completely in favour of USB/Flash drives or something equivalent.

musicians and such will probably end up releasing whatever artwork they might have with download slips, like a lot of band selling vinyl already do.

Good arguments, though, Stig. I agree with you on most of it.

Anyone got any good new years plans? Probably not since you're all losers.
