Illmatic 04-07-2006 03:50 PM

You get the full bloods (Italians, Irish, Greeks, whatever) who are proud of it but the mixeds (who are like, part Irish part Scottish part Russian part German) who couldn't care less.

I mean hey, I don't know what part of Africa my ancestors came from but there's good reason for that. I'm still proud of my heritage, and I want to go to Africa someday (as Richard Pryor said it, all black people should go to Africa at least once).

Shred Danson 04-07-2006 04:33 PM
I'd take offense, but really it would be nice to see more white people with more cultural identity.
Well, as you said, I guess it's because most white people could care less. You don't see many white-man pow-wows, ya know? I myself don't know my real heritage because my dad was adopted. For all I know, I could be South African or Italian or anything like that, but I just go with my mom's heritage (sadly I don't know much about hers either, never got a chance to ask her)...so I just go with "redneck".

Shred Danson 04-07-2006 04:51 PM

That's what I was gettin' at...

Cain 04-07-2006 04:59 PM

Illmatic says: It'd be nice to see more whites with a sense of cultural identity.

I say: You need not look much farther than the following organizations:

Ku Klux Klan
Aryan Nation
American Nazi Party
World Church of the Creator
National Alliance
W.A.R.

On a more serious note, I posit this interesting situation as a challenge to Ray's enthusiasm for "Cultural identity" that is also related to my in-jest statement above: we have a place called "Common Ground" on campus, which is the meeting room for student identity groups and which only members of said identity groups can enter. I am forbidden because there is no White European identity group on campus, and if there were, the "racist" mudslinging would be so close behind it as to make the purpose of such a group worthless and damaging. Hence, exclusion remains even in the face of a strong cultural identity from minority groups, and a majority group, which happens to be responsible for past racist history, is forbidden by default for constructing an identity group for itself in the first place. What then is the point of constructing a narrow cultural identity for yourself if discrimination or exclusion based on culture or race of any sort is perpetuated? Would assimilation be a better course, even if it doesn't prove easy?

Haha, I love you Trev. We should make man babies....

I'm loving the black metal thread, Gates Of Heaven starts going off about how nobody knows what they're talking about, and then says that I'm gay and calls me "I Am Mallcore" (also referred to IAmTheBlackWizard as IAmTheBlackFaggot, pretty clever guy imo) for mocking his innability to type in something at least resembling proper English, citing that it's childish to base an argument off of someone's inability to spell, he then proceded to say that he doesn't like Sargeist, because, yes, they're gay. He's definately the best judge of what is and isn't childish.

Eleventeen, your internet life is filled with more drama than your average theater department. Quit talking about what other people are doing that's dumber than what you're doing, etc. I don't like it when you trash talk users or people in here. It's against the rules of the forum to bring personal feuds with users into other threads and poisoning the communities there with trifling stupidity like what you're only abetting for continuing to focus on it.

i am the robots 04-07-2006 05:14 PM

Fair enough, I just find it quite childish when somebody just blatantly calls people gay for disagreeing with their opinion.

The whole arguement is childish and idiotic. I have been laughing at the Black Metal thread for the past few days. Apparently nobody can call themselves a "true metal fan" or even a black metal fan unless they listen to the most obscure bands. I myself would rather focus on the love of the music instead of bitching and whining about how "this band is gay and that band is gay" because they have even an ounce of popularity.

The guy further lost credit with me when he called Panzerfaust a classic album. I give that album 4 out of 5 stinking, rotten turds, and that's not a good thing.

i am the robots 04-07-2006 05:17 PM

Read what I've said in there, nothing of it deserves to be flamed, except for my minor trolling/dicking around with Gates of Heaven.

Leave it in the thread, then. You're free to carry on the stupid argument there and not annoy people who are not involved with it who couldn't possibly care less than I do. Better yet, you're free to report him and actually help the forum instead of bogging it down with silly repartee.

i am the robots 04-07-2006 05:21 PM

I'm fine with that, however this thread is for casual banter dude. I'm not bitching or anything, I'm not even arguing, I'm merely saying it's funny how childish the kid's acting.

I don't know how childish he can possibly be if you're moved enough by what he's saying to "casually banter" about it in here. Unless of course you're just trying to be a jerk and get us to join in or something, which I disagree with just as much.

Point is, you say: Gates of Heaven is being a retard and childish.
I can either:

a.) agree with you, which loads up the negativity directed towards a particular user basically behind his/her back as it is no longer confined to the thread in which the feud started, which clearly breaks the rules of the forum and which, moreover, tastelessly lowers the standard for the discussion within the thread and makes the mood negative and angry rather than positive, or

b.) disagree with your intention to post about it within this thread, which is indeed for casual banter but is still not outside the rules of the forum and is not a soapbox for individual pissiness over stupid arguments between two users in a different thread, generally speaking.

I wouldn't be acting like this except you in particular frequently make threads/posts about someone in school who called you a fag, or threatened you, or some stupid situation where you provide us with some sort of transcript of how you "owned" them because they're stupider and less witty than you, and/or similar posts involving a user of this site that you got into an argument with, or white people who dress like black rappers and how you hate them, and on and on and on. It's just dumb.

I choose "b." If Gates of Heaven is being out of order by calling you "gay" for disagreeing with his opinion, it's a pointless flame with no redeeming value and you should report him and leave his "childishness" up to a mod's judgement. I just don't like seeing these little tiffs getting taken in here.

I hope you take my meaning. I'm not trying to be a dick to you personally, but I am saying not to talk about stuff that can lead to no other purpose but to insult another user or another person.

I haven't and I don't intend to, based on the reports of his behavior. My point still stands. It doesn't make you more grown-up than someone else to call him/her childish.

EDIT: And really, I wouldn't react this way if Eleventeen in particular did this sort of thing with less frequency.

i am the robots 04-07-2006 05:38 PM

Cain, you do understand that I saying I find it funny that one can go on about someone elses' childishness and then call them gay directly afterwards and actually be serious.

I wasn't talking shit I was actually laughing about it.

Fine, so what should I do then? "Oh ya Eleventeen he IS rly stupid for saying that and being childish himself lolz"

It's missing the point I'm making. I don't care if it's not technically talking trash or something, because it's still an avenue of discussion that can only lead towards "yes he's an idiot" or "you're an idiot for continuing to talk about how idiotic he is." Either way, it's a stupid discussion.

Just report him. I fail to see how this is a difficult thing. I'm not trying to be all Dargon on you, but there it is.

Invicta_Veritas 04-07-2006 05:51 PM

So, our drummer hasn't gotten back to us after our whole little exchange of swearing (and me ripping him a new one), so We're just going to go ahead and quietly fire him......by deleting all of his sh*t off the site and removing the link to his page....(and locking the doors to our practice studio haha).....

It was back to drum programming for me until like 2 in the morning last night....I must say it's the biggest bitch on the planet (because I refuse to just loop sh*t)......but i think we've got some of it a lot better than the demo  We shall see....

I wonder if it will have a bigger feel if I put a tiny bit of reverb on the drums (instead of just the flat sound of the programmed drums)....... or if i even played it back and miced it up........then used the recorded version.

<<<needs it to not sound so flat and industrial.

Kage 04-07-2006 05:54 PM

I don't really see how calling someone "gay" is childish. It's come to be accepted as an insult; you don't see female dogs getting up in arms when someone calls someone a "bitch."

Shadows 04-07-2006 05:54 PM

That's because you can't understand dogs. I'm sure if we could, they'd be arguing too.
I know, I did that purposefully for the sake of argument.
Ah, okay. I think a more proper and accurate comparison would be between calling something "retarded" and calling something "gay". An example:

You are in class and get yelled at for talking out of turn, and get some form of disciplanary action. You respond with telling the teacher he is retarded. This is a verbal attack on his intellectual and decision-making prowess, both of which are at fault for bringing this whole thing upon you.

On the second hand, you call your teacher gay. This is commenting on his sexuality, which has absolutely nothing to do with what's going on. That is my problem with calling things gay in serious arguments - I say it all the time when I'm joking around, so I don't really take offense; I just don't think it's a valid argument to say "Well, it's accepted to call something dumb 'gay'". It just doesn't make sense.

Well, calling someone "gay" in a serious argument is one thing. But if you're just mad, or joking around, it's not really a big deal. If you think about it, a lot of the "insults" or cuss words people use don't actually make sense in the situation.
