Excuses, excuses...

PaulR 11-23-2004 01:25 PM

eh? What happened to it?

Wintermute 11-23-2004 01:27 PM

At a guess, someone logged onto the ModCP. At the moment that sometimes has the effect of taking the whole site out for a bit!

Needs looking at, does that.

moxshyfter 11-23-2004 01:28 PM

Wintermute killed the thread! It was going so well, too!

Espbassor 11-23-2004 01:29 PM

Yeah well it wouldn't have matter much for me anyway, in an hour I'll be taken away by WoW and class :D

moxshyfter 11-23-2004 01:32 PM

Well, I still have 2 hours of work left. Let's not be bringing up boring topics! (Just kidding WM!) ;)

Espbassor 11-23-2004 01:37 PM

When is the last time you watched a really old movie you haven't seen in ages. I watched Frankenstien and the Wolfman last night on dvd (came with the van hellsing collector's edition dvd) and wow did I ever forget some classic scenes in those movies!

PaulR 11-23-2004 01:42 PM

Wow. I really don't do much. I never get to do stuff like that.

I really should.

moxshyfter 11-23-2004 01:44 PM

I watched Little Nicky the other day...that's about as old as I go. :D

Espbassor 11-23-2004 01:46 PM

It's some pretty entertaining stuff if you get some friends over! I'm watching dracula tonight hopefully after class :D

ShelBel 11-23-2004 01:47 PM

Ah, that explains why everything started to go REALLY slow for a while! I just said "meh" and went elsewhere, figuring it would get sorted- and I was right!

Good afternoon all! I have an hour left of work and then I have to head to my mom-in-law's house to work on her computer. We got her a bigger HD and I'm fighting with it... for some reason the BIOS isn't seeing it, yet when I booted into the Diagnostic/Install disk it formatted just peachy... ??? Gotta figure that out somehow.

*runs off to do a google*

Espbassor 11-23-2004 01:49 PM

Ah got to love those easy to install hard drives :p

Wintermute 11-23-2004 01:50 PM

My understanding of computers is low-intermediate at best, but surely an unformatted HD wouldn't be seen? Not until you've formatted it at least.

I hated having to do that... XP Home doesn't contain links to the necessary tools, on the grounds that Home is an OS for fools, and they were trying to make it foolproof. I had to go through the Console Root to do it, which was annoying.

Then I got rid of Home. I was about to say 'Pro all the way', but I'm considering Linux...

moxshyfter 11-23-2004 01:51 PM

Sounds a lot like the problem I am having right now. My computer F-ed up and wouldn't recognize my HD, CD drive, or anything. I replaced them both, now it won't recognize the Video Card, LAN connection...

Computers piss me off.

BIOS should recognized a hard drive, formatted or not.

Linux is a good choice if you aren't a hard core gamer (like me :D ). It just take a little time to get used to doing somethings yourself.

Espbassor 11-23-2004 01:58 PM

Well, since we're on computer problems, my laptop's monitor is broken and constantly overheats when playing games :upset: I'm using a regular LCD monitor for anyone whose wondering. It's like a small desktop at this point :upset:

Wintermute 11-23-2004 01:58 PM

Yeah, there is still the gaming... which is why I'm considering a dual-boot.

I only use Windows as an OS. I use OpenOffice, GAIM, WinAmp, Opera...

Espbassor 11-23-2004 02:01 PM

Yeah, you have to be careful when setting up a dual boot. I think if you loaded windows first and then linux, you run into problems where windows gets greedy with the hard drive and hides sections from linux. I *THINK* the safe away around it is to set up linux first then windows. It could be the opposite.

Wintermute 11-23-2004 02:02 PM

I know some diehard Linuxers who've set up a fair few dualboots, if I go for it they'll be the ones actually doing it.

Espbassor 11-23-2004 02:04 PM

Thats the best way to have linux set up :thumb:

ShelBel 11-23-2004 02:05 PM

Either that or set up two partitions.

I'm just frustrated with this HD thing. If I hook up her old HD as the master and the new one as the slave, it boots just hunky-dory. It even sees the second HD, formatted to NTFS.

But as soon as I hook up the new HD as the master, the MB doesn't see it. ??? "Pri Master Disk = None" It boots via CD just fine and ACTS like its going thru XP Home setup... but then as soon as I try and reboot without the CD I get a "Non-bootable Disk" error and if you put the CD back in it starts "installing" all over again. WTF?

Wintermute 11-23-2004 02:06 PM

I was intending on 2 partitions, yeah.

Could it be a shot hard disk?

Espbassor 11-23-2004 02:07 PM

Sounds like a dumb question, but you did check the pin configuration in the back right?

ShelBel 11-23-2004 02:07 PM

Yes.

Wintermute 11-23-2004 02:08 PM

Everyone go to the Tab Talk forum and complain about Superpeer and Bartenders murderous ways in the obviously relevant thread...

moxshyfter 11-23-2004 02:10 PM

 Lost in all this PC talk... :upset:

Espbassor 11-23-2004 02:12 PM
Yes.
Well if the pin configuration is all right then I have no clue  Sounds like, for some reason, the HD is stuck in Slave. Sorry I can't help, I'm security, not tech support :thumb:

I think the one in question should be obvious

first you try and get rip of rep points, now you offer them as a reward...i'm ashamed

;)

I do believe I am thoroughly confused. Good Job :thumb:

Wintermute 11-23-2004 02:17 PM

Hehe, twas a joke.

So far I've given rep a grand total of twice. Both of which were richly deserved.

ShelBel 11-23-2004 02:18 PM

I know, everything is as it SHOULD be, but its not working! *headdesk*

LOL @ the murderous thread! Gimme a shovel, I'll bean the parties responsible...

Wintermute 11-23-2004 02:18 PM

*gives shovel*

Spaceman Spiff 11-23-2004 02:20 PM

i've only handed out rep points once, maybe twice.

Wintermute 11-23-2004 02:20 PM

The idea was that they'd hide my body in a place no one would ever look...

YO YO YO MX!!!

31st page post... not bad

ShelBel 11-23-2004 02:25 PM

Totally OT... I'm at the Commons, there's a wall of TVs over to my left... I look over and what's playing on one of them?

Mel Brooks' "History of the World Part I".

It's the eunuch scene. "You must give him time- he's just been snipped!" I see Empress Nympho say.... *falls out of chair laughing*

Espbassor 11-23-2004 02:25 PM
Totally OT...
how can you be OT in the general thread?
