Haha, I took some philosophy quiz, and this is what is gave me (most similar philosophies):
1. Nietzsche (100%) 2. Stoics (97%) 3. David Hume (89%) 4. Spinoza (81%) 5. Jean-Paul Sartre (75%) 6. Cynics (64%) 7. Thomas Hobbes (61%) 8. Ayn Rand (60%) 9. Kant (51%) 10. St. Augustine (44%) 11. Nel Noddings (43%) 12. Epicureans (38%) 13. Aristotle (36%) 14. Aquinas (31%) 15. Plato (27%) 16. Ockham (26%) 17. Jeremy Bentham (24%) 18. Prescriptivism (24%) 19. John Stuart Mill (8%) Not to sound naive, but I honestly don't know who Neitzsche and Stoics are....should I and is thier work easy to find/worth looking into? |
You seriously don't know who Nietzsche is? God is dead?
|
You've never heard of the Stoics?
...Greek people. Stoic is named after 'stoa' which is the place they gathered to discuss philosophy. I think that's what it means. |
Sartre really depresses me.
|
Nietzsche is incredibly easy to find. You'd probably like Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The stoics are a bunch Hellenistic philosophers. Wiki would help point you in a specific direction, as far as the stoics go.
I love Sartre, tbh. Have you read his lecture, Existentialism is a Humanism? |

No. I'm sorry, I wish I could look smarter by saying I do, but I don't. I actually don't know who most of these people are, but since I scored as an exact match to those two, I'm now interested in what works they might have..... Thanks guitrguy, btw what's your name...I feel retarded always referring to you as "guitar guy".... |
Then look into them for sure.

Its Brian.
|
Its Brian.
Oh shit, I prolly shoulda known that.... |
Les Jeux Sont Faits by Sartre is the only book I've finished in French. It is an honour for him.
|
I've finished a couple dozen French books for school but I only enjoyed a handful. That language and I just didn't mesh.
The only Sartre I've read is No Exit and The Wall, the latter of which I really need to re-read because I don't remember much. |
Yeah, same. I prefer reading in English and Dutch. I love French movies though, but I feel like I'm not fluent enough in it to truly appreciate books.
|
If you get a chance/want to, check out Existentialism is a Humanism. Its a pretty quick a read, and imo a great book to explain the basis of existentialism.
Sartre really depresses me.
y u thnk kurt cobane kilt himslef |
The book I read was really a novel, though, thoroughly drenched in his philosophy, but still a novel. I'm not too crazy about pure philosophical works.
|
I like books about killing Orcs and shit... Riva knows what's up.
Also, I just listened to Architects entire discography, and I still want to listen to them more. /fanboy |
My friend was telling me about No Exit. I can see how thats depressing.
|
Sartre really depresses me.
lel Anyway, I came off as really existentialist and utilitarian in that test. BRA, if you honestly don't know who Nietzsche is, probably you answered like half the test wrong because you based your answers on eenie meenie meiny moes. |
My friend was telling me about No Exit. I can see how thats depressing.
I just meant his general theme of an existential crisis. His ideas overall tend to depress me. No Exit was ****ing brilliant though, seriously amazing. |
I like Simone de Beauvoir.

Definitely. I'll have to keep my eye out for it the next time I'm at a book store. |

Pretentious noobs who think they're deep like to advertise how deep they are.

|

|

Meh, this cool chick at school has an Andy Warhol shirt... I think praising random people like that is kinda dumb. The corporate aspect of it at least...
|
i feel like punching people with che guevara on their shirt in the face everytime i see one
But he's like, a hero! Communism works! |
I have a hat with Che's face on it, but only because
1) I got it in Havana 2) It was the "anniversary" of Che's capture, so everything was Che related in the market 3) It was the only one that fit my head :( |
You can make jokes about how rebellious you are though.
|
I got a Che t-shirt for my birthday once. I never wore it.
