Yeah, I see sound quality as kind of an extra thing for BM. If bands can afford to produce it well I don't see why not. I dislike purists so if they keep the quality like **** just to be BM pure, that's dumb.
But what do I know, im not a huge BMer anyway.

I just think black metal should be largely DIY and low budget. Thats part of the reason why it is an interesting genre

Not much, but I've listened to a little of : Burzum (early years of it), Immortal, Gorgoroth, Emporer...

Seems like all the more well known black metallers.

The bands I listed, I only liked one album of theirs...Only one. It turned out that the albums I liked received high ratings within this community. So I am not alone, and the users who liked the same albums I liked had rated a lot of other good albums also. I don't see the point in not listening to a band if they can only make one good album...I say listen to that one good album and **** the rest of the crappy ones. I listen to albums not bands, cryptopsy taught me that.
