What't your favourite Live 'Medly'.
Mine has to be the 'Justice Medley' from the Binge and Purge album.
well not really a medley from the whole band...but the guitar and bass doodle from cunning stunts was a medley...and it is the awesomest ever. |
Fancy that... they're playing Orion live...
Would really love to see more news on what they're doing with themselves these days.
I wonder if Rob could handle all that awesome bass stuff. :smash: Nah, he's alright. I managed to learn the first two guitar solos to that song.:thumb: I like the second slower one the best. Very emotional. |
i recently read a magazine article that listred the 100 greatest rock guitarists, and they actually had james instead of kirk. i know he plays several solos in the studio and is regarded by many as the ultimate rhythm guitarist, but ive also been told when he plays solos live he really struggles and looks uncomfortable. so how good is he...?
Actually he looks fine when he's doing solos. He is amazing at rhythm and pretty good at soloing he could probably hold his own when doing solos. He's just not as fast as Kirk but he can vary his soloing style more than Kirk. He has to concentrate though on the RtL- RtL because that solo is tough as ****. And he usually does that one live. Apparently Kirk tends to mess up on the first part of it so James does it. So basically he's pretty well rounded. |
Somebody asked about sweet amber... I love that song... on of my favorite on st.anger...
And yeah, James is a pretty versatile player...:thumb: |
James virtually writes everything for 'Tallica. That's what makes him better than Kirk, catchy rhythms ect.

I've always like James' solos better. Amazingly enough I've found slower solos to be more difficult to emulate because they have a lot of heart and feeling in them and usually those are the solos that James plays. Don't get me wrong, Kirk can shred but anyone with decent chops can reproduce his solos. With james it's a little more different. |

Oh dear. You clicked it right? |
Oh dear.
You clicked it right?
I did and after seeing the first two slides, clicked out because I thought it was some sort of spam. I'll give it another shot. Yup, I was right. Useless spam. I ventured through the whole thing. It was mildly funny, but I was more into discussing Metallica. |
Would be nice if the broadcasted that concert live for free online. :)
From metallica.com SUNDAY'S SETLIST 11/13/2005 [ back ] It's 8pm, and Metallica just left the stage. Usually they are not even on stage at 8pm, but tonight is a special night. Here is the setlist, in depth review and photos to come. Orion Master Of Puppets No Leaf Clover King Nothing Fade To Black I Disappear Turn The Page Sad But True One Nothing Else Matters Enter Sandman
I'm about to cry.
Somebody asked about sweet amber... I love that song... on of my favorite on st.anger...
http://www.freaksafari.com/hanselandgretel.htm
Hilarious
If that's how you post get the hell outta our forum! That setlist was made to please the stones fans. Although it is good it's not quite Metallica it is but it a isn't |
Bob's a better bassist than Newstead. And Burton bests them both.
Dude, what? No way. Newsted is alot better than bob. Unless you meant Rob, well then yes you were right. |
That setlist was made to please the stones fans. Although it is good
it's not quite Metallica it is but it a isn't
yeah i know what you are saying. i'm glad to hear someone else likes sweet amber cuz alot of people don't like it |
Dude, what? No way. Newsted is alot better than bob.
Unless you meant Rob, well then yes you were right.
yeah newsted IS better than bob. cliff > newsted > rob > bob....imo from what i've seen. i'm not saying rob isn't better than newsted, i just haven't heard alot from rob so that's just from what i've heard. crap sorry about the dp |
Yea I also love sweet amber. Best song on st. anger imo. I like that little wild west like intro they have.
Yea, we'll see Rob's skills on the next album and then we can judge him fairly. :) |
I've never heard jungle essence but from everything I've heard/seen rob do
it's been 5x better then Bob. When I saw them live Rob was insane! he was spinning around and going off on solo's right and left so I can't wait for the next album. |
to bad Metallica were dicks to Newsted. Otherwise he wouldn't have quit.
|
do bad Metallica were dicks to Newsted. Otherwise he wouldn't have quit.
yeah, he was an awesome guy. i wouldn't say the metallica guys were all dicks to him, and that's probably only 70% of the reason he left. kirk can't have been a dick to him, it doesn't seem possible lol |

They were pretty hard on the poor fellow |
Apparently Newsted didn't like how hetfield didn't let him pursue side projects
|
Well yes but I can see where Hetfield was coming from
|
Yeah. Might be the reason Metallica did so well. They concentrated only on their music nobody else's .
|
James did one side project and I don't think it turned out well
|
yeah, i am soo glad that they haven't been sidetracked anytime over the years
|
I wonder if Rob could handle all that awesome bass stuff. :smash:
Nah, he's alright. I managed to learn the first two guitar solos to that song.:thumb: I like the second slower one the best. Very emotional.
Orion is my favorite Metallica instrumental. I had learned some parts a while back. Dont remember them so I decided on learning the song again but acuratly and all the parts this time. |
Best metallica instrumental ever IMO is Call of the Ktulu. It pwns sooo bad.
|
yeah, i agree. its a hard choice between orion and ktulu though, and orion takes a close second. although pulling teeth is good, its nowhere near the quality of the first two. and i must say bass and guitar doodle is better than all of em by far, but i keep rambling on about that in this thread so i'll save you guys from listening lol

To live is to die solo in the acoustic bit :thumb: , when you hear that... could make a grown man cry. James know's how to write music with heart. |

I completely agree It's cool how cliff is in it too |
Ah, just played a metal gig :)
Our Creeping Death cover went well :) We got the '1, 2, 3, 4!' count in with the crowd, Metallica style, and dropped it down to just bass and drums in the breakdown until everyone was shouting DIE :D :smash: |
To live is to die solo in the acoustic bit :thumb: , when you hear that... could make a grown man cry. James know's how to write music with heart.
Exactly. It may not be the most technically difficult but it's difficult to emulate because there are a lot of emotions that are put into writing the stuff that he writes and that is what is hard to emulate. Pretty much anyone can learn the intro to Nothing Else Matters, but can they play it the way James does? He put his soul into that song and that's why it was a very successful song. Maybe isn't the grinding thrash that we headbangers have come to love, but it's showing that there is a soulful side to James and thats awesome. Kirk does have his moments too. IE solos to FTB and Sanitarium. |
yeah kirk can slow it down and give it alot of feeling too. i prefer him over james overall.
yeah the to live is to die acoustic solo is great. also the unforgiven solo is possibly the awesomest ever, i like how its all soft and theres a small acoustic lick and then it goes into the distorted solo. good times |
i have to admit i like kirk the best, but my favourite Metallica song is SEEK AND DESTROY, i love to sing it as i do quite alot!!!!!
AH HA |
It's very precious when a person pours his whole soul into his/her music
we end up with some very special pieces of that person locked (presumably) forever into that recording |

Yea but you can't say all of their stuff is like that
there are some very special moments though |
