Probably Looking Out My Backdoor, but there are so many greats.
What is Aqualung exactly about?

My favorite CCR song is "Lookin' Out My Backdoor".
It's about a homeless guy with a bad cold who complains about Christianity.

Woodstock 02-05-2005 11:04 PM

My favorite CCR song is Down On The Corner.

I just know it's something about religion, not sure what.

Illmatic 02-05-2005 11:05 PM

Down on the Corner, Green River, Fortunate Son, or The Midnight Special

RockAndRoll 02-05-2005 11:06 PM

Every time I turn on my metronome I think of down on the corner and start singing it.

Badmoon 02-05-2005 11:06 PM

I heard the main idea was based off of Anderson's believe that organized religion ruins man's connection with God.

lunch998 02-05-2005 11:07 PM

I wrote a small paper on Aqualung, but really only focused on "My God", "Hymn 43",and "Wind Up". I think those are the most obvious anti-religion messages, I don't really know much about the rest of the album.
I heard the main idea was based off of Anderson's believe that organized religion ruins man's connection with God.
Yea that is a big part of it. There are lines that man destroyed God, and that terrible people use God's name in vain and things like that. In "Wind Up" the main character finds his God and taunts the Christian Church by saying "he's not the kind of God you have to wind up on Sundays".

That would seem right, or that bums are the smartest philosophers on Earth.

That sounds like a fairly good descripition. If you listen to the album alot of it is critical of religion, but the album is not meant to criticize religion itself. I think more accurately as badmoon put it it's a criticism of how religion has been organized, and similar themes could be used for the way many things have been organized, sort of an indoctrination type thing more than focusing on actually reaching the supposed, and quite frankly much better goal.

That's one of my favourites songs and lines because I've always felt this way. Any god who should rightfully be called god doesn't want you to go and "wind him up" on sundays, he would want you to live a respectable life, which does not necessarily require church.

PinkFreud 02-05-2005 11:13 PM
I'd agree, I'm not a big fan of greatest hits and how they've taken of the world along with singles and hits with the new easy to download tracks and burnable cd's. To be quite honest I think they're just another step in to massacreing music in to pretty much anything that flows and is within the limits of my particular social group is pure gold. When in reality it's a shallow, simple, boring, formulaic, unoriginal, unemotional heap of flaming shit that's been done a million times before.

However the Simon and Garfunkle greatest hits is failry well done and fairly large, so it's one of the few greatest hits that has done a decent job.
the essential greatest hits series is excellent. theyre all double discs so they get some of the lesser known songs as well. i own the srv one, bob dylan, janis joplin and maybe some others. haha i cant recall them all at the moment.

It's not anti-religious so much as it is anti-organization though, I think it's important to distinguish.

It is great. When I picked apart the lyrics I found that I really agreed with his most of his points.

Another thing is the hypocrisy in Church(or just religion). Like the "bloody Church of England".

Illmatic 02-05-2005 11:15 PM

The Dylan one (or any Dylan Greatest Hits album) is the only way to get "Positively 4th Street", because as far as I can tell it's not on any of his studio albums.

Yea I know, I made sure to make it clear on the paper.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-05-2005 11:16 PM

Now I need to go look for that song because I don't think I've heard it...

Woodstock 02-05-2005 11:17 PM

NP: Mr. Churchill Says

Ya, I find religiong to be one of the greatest things and one of the things that's been the most terribly misused at the same time.

Ugh I hate this I want to give rep so badly, but I have to spread it.

lunch998 02-05-2005 11:18 PM

Everyone's been trying to rep me, but they all have to spread it.
