It was an accident. James got burnt by a pyro effect that he didn't know about. A 12 foot flame burnt the left side of his body.

Jev 06-18-2005 04:48 AM

And he couldn't play guitar for the next few shows and in the end got "Carpe Diem Baby" tattooed(sp?) over it.
You might be thinkin of cunning stunts where in the middle of enter sandman the set falls apart (it was suposed to) and a guy goes running across the stage on fire? or maby not iv never heard of that happenin to hetfield.
Na, they were doing fade to black and right at the end of the intro solo james walked over the stage and before he started singing there was a flamethrower thing that exploded right under him, and then the 12 foot fire ball and the hospital and the stuff you guys already talked about

RustedPieces 06-18-2005 11:59 AM

I can't believe that Kirk made up the Unforgiven solo on the spot. That's crazy.

SrV_FeN63'StRaT 06-18-2005 01:51 PM

Ya metallica was doing a gig with GnR a few years ago and the pyro got sick so they had another guy fill in for him...Hetfield thought he would cary on with the origional plan but he changed it up and forgot to tell James and when he walked out on the left wing of the stage POOF 12 ft flames and all he went down with his double neck ESP :upset:

SrV_FeN63'StRaT 06-18-2005 01:53 PM

Then Axl Rose came out sang a song or two and left cause he said he throat hurt  the crow was sooo pissed off riots and everything

Agitator01 06-18-2005 05:37 PM
When did that happen?? Ive never heard that before...was it an accident or was it an act?
It was an accident, All of the pyrotechnics were positioned correctly and Jaymez Hetfield was aware of where they were..
However, He was approached and told that the Pyro is now coming from the back of the stage now and to keep away for the que...
Jaymes assumed that they were then just going to come from the back, and that the original plans had been scrapped...
He walked towards the front of the stage, heard them going off behind him... Little did he know he was standing 1 metre in front of one, he stepped backwards into it, giving him first degree burns ect:...
The Metallica show was cancelled due to the injuries, and G&R's came on to take their place, Riots started and the indoor stage ended up being destroyed and burned due to drunk angry fans!

Yeah they changed a lot with that album. They completely got rid of their thrashy feel.

no freakin way? how do you know, that solo is godly.

fatbandit 06-19-2005 02:53 PM

I was watching S&M today, and James had a tattoo of some cards with his year of birth on, with some flames, and he said 'These flames have some meaning to this side of my body'. I assume that's the pyro accident.

:smash:

benfan 06-19-2005 03:00 PM

ive heard a roumer that metallica will be at download next year and it will be their last tour before they break up, is this true?

Trivium 06-19-2005 03:09 PM

wouldnt doubt it

james got torched during fade to black, only did vocals until his arm healed, guitarist from metal church filled in on rythem guitar

end of story.

Wrong, John Marshall the guitar tech filled in.

And-Justice-For-All 06-19-2005 04:21 PM

I think they still a have one more album in them.

Britton 06-19-2005 04:46 PM

God I hope so Man

and yea there is a vidio in that doc where james gets flamed

Endless Obsession 06-19-2005 05:34 PM
I think they still a have one more album in them.
At least, they are in the studio right now, so that means at least one more album. Maybe 2, maybe even three. Look at AC/DC, they are coming out with a cd this summer.

Huber 06-19-2005 05:39 PM

****, I forgot about St. Anger's day, it was earlier this month

Joe 06-19-2005 05:55 PM
no freakin way? how do you know, that solo is godly.
that's hard to believe. are we talking about the album solo? because if we are that's not true that he "came up with it on the spot." also, what spot are we talking about, like recording days? because that wouldn't be true either

Joe 06-19-2005 06:01 PM
ive heard a roumer that metallica will be at download next year and it will be their last tour before they break up, is this true?
why would they even start a rumer like that? and even if it was true we wouldn't find out until then. it's probably not true. they just got a new bassist and they've been around through 3 bassists which means these are the kind of guys who want to rock n roll and bash their heads all their lives.
james got torched during fade to black, only did vocals until his arm healed, guitarist from metal church filled in on rythem guitar

um, no.
and yea there is a vidio in that doc where james gets flamed
video? and yes, it was in a VH1 special called "When Metallica Ruled The World." It wasn't in any other official Metallica releases, unless it was in Cunning Stunts which I haven't seen.

BassMasterMike88 06-19-2005 06:20 PM

Honestly with the the rough times they went through to get St. Anger, losing Newsted, James drinking problems, Lar's ego, Metallica coming close to falling to pieces i doubt that they will stop touring and rocking anytime soon, they've been at it too long to just give up.

Thats not to hard to believe. Think about all the solos that Trey, Allman, and Garcia come/came up with on the spot that were impressive.
Hetfield thought he would cary on with the origional plan but he changed it up and forgot to tell James
Who is this James? Because hetfield told james? HAHAHAH

Chu 06-20-2005 11:26 PM

I believe the guitarist who did fill in for Hetfield when he was burnt was the guitar tech at the time, but later moved to Metal Church, so you're all kind of correct :p

vashts80 06-20-2005 11:41 PM
With the addition of former Heretic vocalist Mike Howe, and Metallica guitar tech extraordinaire John Marshall, the riffing became heavier and the subject matter deeper.
