I am an intermediate player (4+ years) and I have really crappy Pearl Hi-Hats. I am looking for something that I won't have to replace and have a nice smooth sound to them, somewhat jazzy. I've been looking mainly into Zildjian ones, but any recommendations would be nice. Any price range, any size.
full collapse 02-13-2006 04:55 PM
Right now I have a 21" AA Dry ride and i'm looking for something with a bigger bell, a bit more stick definition and just a little louder and cutting overall really. More presence... No price restriction or brand preference.
Anybody....?

chewaz 02-13-2006 09:04 PM
Anybody....?
maybe the AA raw bell dry ride,
Anybody....?
The way it sounds, it seems like the AA Raw Bell Dry Ride would be suiting, just like he said.

chewaz 02-13-2006 09:22 PM

will an AA regular 14" over an AAX xcelerator 14" sound good? or will it make ringy noises?

Tim 02-13-2006 09:31 PM
will an AA regular 14" over an AAX xcelerator 14" sound good? or will it make ringy noises?
The AA regular hats and the AAX stage hats are so similar that it would probably sound the same as xcelerator hats. The xcelerator top is pretty much like the stage top. medium in weight. The difference being that xcelerators i dont think come in brilliant finish. Ive never seen them in brilliant. Youre better off jsut getting xcelerators or stage hats. Save the trouble of ordering 2 sepereat cymbals.

chewaz 02-13-2006 09:37 PM

what i meant to do was, im gettin the AA regular so i can buy a aax-xcelerator bottom, and have like two different tipes of hats

Tim 02-13-2006 09:39 PM

so youre going to buy the AA pair and then the xcelerator bottom too so youre having like 3 hats? so you can pair them differently?

chewaz 02-13-2006 11:39 PM

yeah! me smart (right?)

Tim 02-13-2006 11:55 PM

Well theres nothing wrong with trying it out. If you dont like it then you can buy another hi hat and just keep trying new combos.

Metalftw 02-14-2006 11:26 AM

Hey guys!

I don't like the crash I've got now, it's more like a jazz-crash in my opinion. I would like to have something that more fits to Heavy metal beats and such.
What do you think I need? :naughty:

CasB 02-14-2006 12:14 PM

Paiste Rude :p

whats the crash you have now? my first impulse is to say 16" aaxplosion and 18/19" aaxplosion

Bullet for My Valentine 02-14-2006 02:14 PM

are the meinl classics any good? im currently tryin to upgrade from 101s/solars and i was wonderin what would be best to buy seens im low on funds...im lookin at the sabian AAs or even pro sonix.. any other suggestions owuld be appreciated..

HeLLmO 02-14-2006 02:17 PM

^well, meinl classic crashes are okay, if u get big ones i.e 18''+ but i would definatly go AA or maybe meinl raker over classics and sonix

Bullet for My Valentine 02-14-2006 02:24 PM

oh right thanks.. these are intermediate cymbals i take it?
i may get a mixture of the meinl rakers and the the AAs as i played some AAs at a local music shop and they sounded hot! thanks!

HeLLmO 02-14-2006 02:28 PM

yea AA's and up from sabian are just ungodly amazing, and i belive rakers are meinl's cymbals that are made to be bashed hard, or maybe that is MB20, or it could be both, but rakers are pretty good

Bullet for My Valentine 02-14-2006 02:29 PM

thanks alot dude

chewaz 02-14-2006 02:48 PM

the AA fusion has a HH bottom? and the AA sizzle hats have a vented bottom?

HeLLmO 02-14-2006 04:36 PM
thanks alot dude
no problem man.

as for AA fusion having an HH bottom i do not know, but i do know the sizzle hats are vented on the bottom

FullMoon 02-14-2006 09:40 PM

im looking for a splash with a real washy sound any suggestions

Seafroggys 02-15-2006 12:57 AM

a bigger splash, 12" or so.

dark_sunglasses2002 02-15-2006 12:14 PM

I am a beginning drummer. I recently started playing with a band and am looking to add-on to my current cymbal setup.
I have Zildijan ZBT 20" ride, 18" & 16" crash, & 14" High-hats.
I play mostly Rock & Country.
I am looking a getting a splash, china, & fast crash. Any suggestions.
I don't have much to spend...I was looking at Wuhan for the splash & china.

Hit me with it....

Chester 02-15-2006 08:14 PM

well, id replace all your cymblas first

not to poke fun, but a kit with more than 3 or 4 zbt's is just ugly and a waste of money

go big.

seeing how you play both rock and country you might want to look into something from the K series for crashes from zildjian. From sabian, look into something like the Hand Hammered series or HHX. You will probably for crashes want something like medium or medium thin in size as it will be more versatile.

Chester 02-15-2006 08:23 PM

yea, you would want to get versatile cymbals, Ks and HHs would be good, but As and AAs wouldnt be bad either, u kinda have a lotta options for that genre

HeLLmO 02-15-2006 08:27 PM

i think Meinl Byzance may work for that guy too, those are sick cymbals

440561 02-16-2006 03:23 PM

Im looking for a set/pack of cymbals that are decent sounding, I play rock/indie music with my band and I found these on ebay: Click Here
The kit I have came with one cymbal which I really don't like the sound of and a crap pair of Hi-Hats which sound terrible. Would this pack be any good as I need cymbals urgently, especially Ride and Hi-Hats.

Thanks in advance.

LostRythym 02-17-2006 06:48 AM

Okay...erm...i need to get rid of my 302 and i have been thinking about a 16" AAX Stage Crash. Im not too sure about it though,so i need help from you guys. I want a sort of bright shimerring(sp?) crash, that is forceful and something versatile, but can be used in rock too.(music like The Darkness,Iron Maiden,RHCP,Van Halen) Thanks.

HeLLmO 02-17-2006 01:33 PM

^AAX stage would probably be good, look into sabian Vault too

Drum Phil 02-17-2006 02:11 PM

AAXplosion or vault

spirit 02-17-2006 02:23 PM

A Custom, Vault, AA, AAX, Maybe A.
