I really don't like Mike Portnoy. He's one of the best drummers ive heard but it annoys me when he says things like Myung shouldn't right lyrics/poetry for DT stuff if it's not in the proper format.
 I bet Mike bullies Myung backstage and Myung is too frightened to say anything incase he gets chucked out of DT  |
LaBrie is an increadable singer his rage and pitch are amazing
its just that the timbre accent and sound of his voice are irritating (nowhere near Mustaines leuge of irritation) now eventually it just sets in and you don't mind anymore but in the begining its irritating
wtf does that mean |
hmmm...that dosen't really make sence at all.

I just picked up the Live at Budokon DVD. I had the cd, but I wanted the DVD and it is amazing. It almost fells like your are there. The camera crew did a really good job closing in on certain members of the band during certain parts of a song. For example, Petrucci in As I Am during the solo or Portnoy during the instrumedely when he was doing his thing. The production is great. I want to get another DVD, whats another good Dream theater DVD.

I've heard Scenes from New York is pretty good, I have double feature live in tokyo and 5 years in a live time, which are collection of music videos, concerts and making of the albums |
I can't find that DVD anywhere... :(
Will have to steal it from my friend.. |
Recommend me some Dream Theater
I've just become a really intrigued fan of Dream Theater. They're amazing! Everyone is just so amazing talented...words...cannot...decsribe. Anyway here's a list of albums I have. I've only been listening to them for about a few months now.
Octavarium: So far... it's incredible. I love every track. Images & Words: Freakin' amazing. I love "Metropolis" and "Take the Time." Awake: Haven't listened to it so much yet, but so far, I don't like it. Live Scenes from New York: I don't know much of the material...should have bought more albums first. Live at Budokan DVD: :amaze: :amaze: :amaze: :amaze: . So I wanna know what's the next DT album I should buy. Which should I avoid? Thanks. |

Its my favorite by them. Train of Thought's a nice heavy album if thats what you want, and 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulance is a nice mix of everything the band can do, and its 2 cds. |
6 Degrees is far from their best album bro.
|
Get 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence or Scenes From A Memory next.
Isn't 'Six Degrees' a double album?
Oh, someone just answered that. |
Hmmm...oh really. (pondering, pondering, pondering).
More opinions:
I would recommend listneing to Awake more, getting 6DOIT and Train of Thought. |
I would recommend listneing to Awake more, getting 6DOIT and Train of Thought.
Okay, I'll listen to 'Awake' more. So I hear 'Train of Thought' is the heaviest DT album. Does that mean it's good? I like "As I Am" on my DVD. |
It is good, but be prepared for pointless keyboard/guitar soloing in most songs. But otherwise yeah, its a good cd. In the Name of God is probably my favorite, minus the wank...

I'll wank it out all night long! I love Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson...all those guys. The reason I got into DT is because I heard Pettrruci could shread. But Dream Theater is so, so much more. |
I just heard Another Day for the first time
its completely amazing, its so calm and soothing and awesome.. great song, if you havnt heard it, then stop not hearing it |
Yeah, theres some good guitar solos, but I'm really not a fan of keyboard wank. Its kinda recks it for me, and a lot of the time their wildly out of place... every song is like *intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, small bridge, mad jam session consisting of keyboard/guitar solos for 5 min, chorus, ending*, with the odd exception.
Actually, (and I don't have the CD cases here with me, so I could be wrong) I remember reading in the booklets to the LTE CDs that MIKE was approached for a supergroup instrumental band, and he picked Tony and Jordan, and it was MIKE'S wife who suggested JOHN. So you basically had it right just backwards. Anyone with a booklet handy corroborate this?
yup this is correct. Mike stated that he wanted the project to "his own", so he didn't want petrucci at first. It was only after struggled to find a guitarist for Lte did his wife suggested petrucci (a possibility he was always conscious of yet didn't want to turn to). So Lte was not an attempt for petrucci/portnoy/rudess to ditch myung and labrie, it was a supergroup project spearheaded by portnoy. Again rudess wasn't involved with dt at the time he was asked to participate and portnoy certainly didn't have petrucci penciled in as his first option. Having said that, I"m glad everything turned out the way it did--Lte is great :thumb: |
Pretty much all of Train of Thought, Images and Words, and Awake is perfect. I love ToT though, I would recommend every song off of that one :)
|
their all good
six degrees of inner turbulance is their best album
How can you even compare Six Degrees to Awake or Images & Words? :o Six Degrees is GREAT, but nothing compared to Awake or Images, in my opinion..... |
everyone one of their albums and songs are amazing
|
Okay, I'll listen to 'Awake' more.
Not really.
Fanboy alert.
wtf is that supposed to mean |
Maybe.. That you're a fanboy and will deny all faults?
Edit: Then again, what would I know... |
wtf is that supposed to mean
It means you're a fanboy. Come on, every one of DT's songs amazing? Have you listened to The Answer Lies Within lately? |
It means you're a fanboy. Come on, every one of DT's songs amazing? Have you listened to The Answer Lies Within lately?
i havent heard all of them just most i havent heard that song |
Then obviously you don't have the credibility to claim that all of their songs are amazing, now do you?
|
Then obviously you don't have the credibility to claim that all of their songs are amazing, now do you?
i'm listening to it, its not bad, not one of their better songs but still pretty good |
No way...
|
No way...

i'm listening to it, its not bad, not one of their better songs but still pretty good
Pretty good =/= amazing ggnorekthx |
ok fine 95 percent of their songs are amazing, happy....
|
95% of JP's solos are pure wank too.
|
Yeah... but when he doesn't wank, its pure gold. Like a few of the ones in A Change of Seasons.
|
Yeah. He used to have great riffage and not as wank solos back on Images and Words, and now he's moved to this extremely low open string boring riff cycle and wankfest.
