Im thinking of getting into some Cream, anyone recommend any albums?
|
Get yourself Wheel's of Fire. Or a best of album.
|
Wheels of Fire rules. Actually I like all their albums. The 'best of' is probably the best idea, but it doesn't have Rollin' and Tumblin', Toad, or Cat's Squirrel which are my favorite songs off Fresh Cream.

Youll love rush...trust me.
Listen songs like Tom Sawyer YYZ Working Man (kick *** Solo) Spirit of Radio and then your on your own I suggest getting Moving Pictures first. great Album. Chronicles also has some good songs on it for a bets hits. Feedback wasnt good at all so no matter how cheap, dont get it. |

If he really wants to get into cream than a best of just wont cut it. But that should be the first one he gets. |
Yea, what happened to me was I got the best of, then I ended up buying all their albums. So I never listen to the best of anymore.
|
I just downloaded Babe I'm Gonna Leave You by Led Zeppelin and wow...I love this song. Such a beautiful acoustic melody.
*n00b to all this 1337 talk about classical rock* |
Classic Rock is the way to go!
I love classic rock because a lot of it seems more raw and emotional than the newer processed stuff. The first badn I really got into was the Guess Who. Then I discovered Zeppelin and now I own all their albums (all gold :thumb: ). I definately recomend The Velvet Underground for preople looking for somthing different. If you want to write lyrics you should own tons of Dylan (I mean really listen to him). I'm not a huge Beatles fan though, and I've tried to get into them. I'd rather the Stones or the Who any day.
|
bump ;)
|
I recommend Fly At Night by Chiliwak.
|
I hate the greatest hits concept. They're never the best songs anyway.
I found this out with The Beatles. My 10 favorite songs aren't even on the 1 album, and I think there's only several songs on there I really like (basically, let it be, day tripper, and something). So I tend to stay away from Greatest Hits, kids just get that and they're like "Yeah, they're cool man" but they don't know any of the other goodies that never saw it big. That's why it'll take me forever to amass a decent classic rock collection ;) Going back to the Beatles 1 CD, lets take a look at each single, the A side that made it to #1, and the better B side that didn't (well, the whole concept is a flop; the Beatles first #1 was Please Please Me, which isn't on the album, and Love Me Do peaked at #17). Paperback Rider/Rain: PR is good, but Rain is just badass. Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever: Is this really a contest? What's so great about Penny Lane? Way too bouncy and happy. SFF is one of the best songs of all time. Why can't people like Lennon's music? Argh! All You Need is Love/Baby You're a Rich Man: This is about the same. I love the lyrics in AYNiL, but BYaRM has better music. Sorta a tossup. Hello, Goodbye/I am the Walrus: Hello Goodbye was good, but I am the Walrus is just a plain classic. Lady Madonna/The Inner Light: Lady Madonna isn't my cup of tea. Inner Light is one of the more beautiful Beatle songs....George's first single too! Hey Jude/Revolution: Hey Jude is fine and dandy and all, but, c'mon, Revolution! Its so spiffy and badass, I don't know what else to say. Get Back/Don't Let me Down: Get Back has gotten real old with me. Don't Let me Down seems a lot mellower and more boring but I dig it a lot more. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, don't get a Greatest Hits CD. Just get the individual albums. It'll be more worth your while. |
Yup^

Big Brother 0wns. Even the stuff they did without Janis is good. But someone was asking about Rush, and he got recommended some bad songs. Almost anything Rush did after signals was not on par with their previous records. Caress of Steel, Rush, their early stuff, its got a straight-forward Zeppelinesque vibe to it. Their 70's stuff like 2112, A Farewell to Kings was simply AMAZING. That is their best period. Signals, Moving Pictures, still great albums. I still like their prog stage the best. The musicianship...amazing. |

Boy! I was listening to Big Brother before anyone here knew who they were. That actually may be true. :p |
hey guys, sorry i haven't been a regular poster these days. i'm busy getting ready for college, i leave monday. however this weekend i'm seeing peter frampton, and deep purple w/ joe satriani and thin lizzy. it's gonna be a danm good weekend. ooo and i'm getting tickets for one of bruce's anti bush concerts in october. pretty pumped about that as well. the e-street band is amazing live.
also what are your thoughts on santana? i personally love him. he's an excellent guitarist, but my favorite part of his band would def be his rythem section, his percussionists are amazing... listen to michael shrieve's solo on "soul sacrifice" live at woodstock, and the other percussing done by the 2 percussionists... simply amazing. |

Yea I listen to them I like them a lot. |
I'm sure Bob Dylan's been mentioned before, but I'm going to bring him up again.
Anyone else think he's absolutely brilliant? I have Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde, and Blood on the Tracks, and while his lyrics can be a bit out there I always feel like I'm listening to a genius. Everything fits, and everything sounds so good together. Anyone else feel the same? Favorite Dylan album(s)? |
Same here. My favorite albums are Bring it All Back Home, and Freewheelin'. I actually like almost each song on those albums. Though I find "Masters of War"s lyrics to be a little shakey at times.

And I also find that his rythm section adds a whole lot to the whole music. |

Dylan is probabally the best song writter ever.(Besides Robert Johnson) |
^I'd say he's the best lyrics writer. Which is why so many people cover his songs but make them sound like their own. Just amazing lyrics.
