dude, totally, radio video sounds kinda like byob at the intro
Is that a joke. I honestly can't tell. Either
1) You aren't funny. Not even close, or
2) You are an idiot.

PepsiMetal 04-22-2006 10:11 PM

BYOB doesn't sound like Radio Video at all. You need to visit an ear doctor if you think so. Seriously.

Crysiss 04-22-2006 10:42 PM
dude, totally, radio video sounds kinda like byob at the intro

I bet your gonna get another banning in another week or so.

A_Guy 04-22-2006 11:36 PM
Listen to Lonely Day's lyrics. It's a beautiful example of how Daron is (remember this is all IMHO) jabbing a stick at "dark" pop-punk bands like Good Charlotte. It would sound so **** if Serj tried to sing that. In fact, it'd sound like he's being serious. However, Daron's decidedly teenage voice makes it funny. From an artistic point of view, excellent sarcastic irony and use of timbres.

If they're poking fun at a genre, they obviously don't enjoy it, so why would the promote a song they don't like?

PepsiMetal 04-23-2006 12:46 AM

I'm not saying they did the song to make fun of pop punk, but that doesn't mean they don't like a song if it's true. It's their song, and obviously they thought it was good enough to be on the record.

Skit 04-23-2006 03:52 AM
obviously they thought it was good enough to be on the record.
The band didnt want it on the album.

Its only on the album because Rick Rubin told them too put it on.

mutant! 04-23-2006 04:31 AM
If they're poking fun at a genre, they obviously don't enjoy it, so why would the promote a song they don't like?
Not necessarily, man. If they wrote it and they play it, then obviously they either (a) enjoy it or (b) find it funny. In either case it's enough motivation to keep playing it so they can poke fun at the aforementioned bands.

Just as an example, I hate listening to punk but, like any other music genre, plauying it has its perks. Like the fact that you can strum excessively hard and bounce around. That's why I played bass for my friend's punk band a year or so ago. I hated listening to the music, but it was fun to play.

Clunge 04-23-2006 05:20 AM

Don't know if this has been done before but if you had to make one album of of the Mesmerize/Hypnotize release, what would you pic (say 12 songs):

1. Soldier Side (Mesmerize)
2. BYOB
3. Attack
4. Stealing Society
5. Revenga
6. Dreaming
7. Radio/Video
8. Tentative
9. This Cocaine...
10. Violent Pornography
11. Sad Statue
12. Soldier Side (Hypnotize)

mutant! 04-23-2006 05:24 AM

I'd like to do this too but I haven't listened to Hypnotize enough to know it well. I totally agree with your tracks 1-3 and 12 though.

Clunge 04-23-2006 07:52 AM

To be honest, the more I listen to M/H, the less I like both albums really. The only tracks that standout completely are Revenga and BYOB.

Rattlehead 04-23-2006 07:57 AM
CHRIST WHEN WILL PEOPLE STOP GOING ON ABOUT DARON think of it from an artistic point of view. Music is an art, amirite? OK. Thus each song is an artwork. Now look at System's typical lyrical material. For one, they're often immensely sarcastic in bringing their points across. Also, they loooove poking fun at pop culture. Pop-punk bands such as Blink-182 sadly form(ed) a part of pop culture. Thus this kind of music (pop-punk) becomes a metaphor for pop culture. From an artistic point of view, what's a good way to sarcastically poke fun at a music genre?

Imitate it.

Anyway, the whole combined playlist thing: I don't mean the songs should flow into each other, but I mean like one song ends in the same key as the next starts in, or one's outro forms the musical basis for the next song, that kind of thing. I might go browse the thread and see if I can find that list.
fair enough, there are a load of good points there, and i respect his plight to knock shitty genres, but for SOAD, it sounds awful, IMO. Hence my thoughts on the "Daron vocal overload"

mutant! 04-23-2006 11:22 AM

^ I feel you. I actually enjoy it, it's a nice break from the darker, heavier stuff. But yeah, to each his own.

look i dont know if it was radio video, i thought it was, it must have been some other song, but i know that there is another song on mezmerize that sounds similar to byob intro

Insipid2000 04-24-2006 09:40 PM

Maybe you were thinking Sad Statue number 9?

Tele_Dude 04-25-2006 11:09 AM

I can't see why people like Mezmerize so much...

First of all, B.Y.O.B is on there. And Violent Pr0nography. I can't stand those songs^^
I think the lyrics are too repetitive, and they're pretty bad too, compared to the more Serj-ish lyrics on Hypnotize.

On Hypnotize, you have Attack, Dreaming, Tentative, U-Fig, Holy Mountains, Vicinity of Obcenity, and Soldier Side, and those are awesome songs, imo. The others are good too, but not THAT good.

The only songs that stand out to me on Mezmerize are Revenga, This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song, and Question!.
I've kinda grown off the rest... And that's a shame, because I used to love them. But now I find them boring. I've been listening to Hypnotize a lot, and I simply don't get sick of it.

And for the top 5 album thing, my list would be something like this:

1. S/T
2. Hypnotize
3. Toxicity
4. Mezmerize
5. Steal This Album!

!MuDvAyNiAn! 04-25-2006 11:24 AM

I probably like Mezmerize and Hypnotize equally, I dont really think either is better, they both have the same amount of great songs.

JacksonDude675 04-25-2006 04:09 PM

dude, byob and VP are awesome songs. especially byob. no mezmerize and hypnotize arent there best albums, i for one, like them beack when they were really heavy like in there self titled album. but there still good albums. but your right question is a really good song too

JacksonDude675 04-25-2006 04:10 PM
Maybe you were thinking Sad Statue number 9?
maybe i was. maybe i wasnt ill have to listen to those songs again

you know that attack u-fig and V of O a pretty reptitive too so that really doesnt make much sense i like em both anyway

mutant! 04-26-2006 06:26 AM

If y'all had to choose, objectively, which single song from Mez and Hyp is the best (irrespective of who System "really" are or what they "should" be playing), what would your choice be?

I'd say Question!.

Clunge 04-26-2006 06:30 AM

Ergh, Hypnotize continues to sound ever shitter to me.

Best off Mesmerize = Revenga
Best off Hypnotize = Tentative.

snailboy 04-26-2006 08:27 AM

I like Hypnotize. It has an amazing feel to it.

Adm1R 04-26-2006 03:19 PM

I like Mez/Hyz, but i shure hope that Soad make some songs like they used to do once. I really miss the old soad.

snailboy 04-26-2006 04:53 PM

I like SOAD's new sound quite a bit actually.

mutant! 04-27-2006 01:50 AM

^ Me too. Question! just totally pwns, it's such a great song.

I WANT MEZMERIZE AGAIN!!! My mp3's are fried.

Insipid2000 04-29-2006 09:59 PM

I want self-titled again.

PepsiMetal 04-29-2006 11:58 PM

Hmm, let's see. I'd probably agree with you and say Question!. It's the only song that won't get boring. Others get boring after a couple listens for me.
I want self-titled again.
I hope they make an album like toxicity. Needles, Prison song, chop suey, deer dance, atwa, forest, aerials, toxicity, and psycho are all great songs. That album has the best "Good tracks:Number of tracks on album" imo.

!MuDvAyNiAn! 04-30-2006 06:06 AM

Toxicity is my favourite album, its amazing and has such great songs, every single song on that album is their best stuff.

Favourite on Mezmerize: Question! or Old School Hollywood
Favourite on Hypnotize: Tentative

Rattlehead 04-30-2006 06:15 AM

this thread is getting a bit repetetive. shall we move on from Hypnotize/Mezmerize?

NP: Know
