I disgust myself now. :upset: I have nothing to live for now.
You said "now" too close together. 3/10 |
Hahaha!! I'm classed as a little strange at school because I'm not a homophobe. I don't really care which way people sway as long as they don't try coming onto me. In fact one of my closest friends is Bi-sexual, he knows where I stand so there's no problem!!
I keep on writing carp! It's starting to annoy me, it's all the mushy love poetry coming out again, I need to get myself back into shape, I've finally started to feel a style forming under my work. Aaaah well, I guess I get back to the notebook and a few critiques if I feel the need. I've had no inspiration to critique lately, everything seems so poor and boring (apart from a few regulars who constantly produce good interesting work). Timmy P |

^ Same here...except now I am bisexual. Well, I haven't had a relationship with a guy, so I guess you could say, "I'm keeping my options open". |
Hehe!
Well it's that time of year again. Three poetry competition deadlines coming up in the next two months, one of them being a national competition. I'm still trying to decide which pieces to submit. I'd lvoe it if I could have your opinions on which I should submit (can be different for each of the competitions, though if there is one that really is better than the others I'll put that in for all). All of the pieces are at; http://timmyjp.deviantart.com There's also my prose project on there if you're interested in taking a look. If I shouldn't have posted this then tell me and I'll delete it. Thanks for any help you can give :) Timmy P |
nah I think you're ok for posting here, after all it is the community thread and your asking for some advice.

Ha, I've finally found time for critique.
Drop my new piece a hit, yo. http://musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=449931 |
Lol, Jason. Actually, I just like to be open-minded, it comes from the endless amounts of punk. And yes, I know you were joking.
|
Everything nowadays is "scene", whether your gay, bi or a hollister kid. It's all the same.
scene :smash: |
hehe, Hollister.
I like dressing the way I'm not because people say "hey you look good on that". So yeah, ego and all that. |
FUCKING MX LOGIN BUG!
I just did a really good crit on deathscreamingsheep's piece, and it logged me out, and I lost the thing! I absolutely HATE it when that happens. I lost a whole song the other night as well. |

I've had that happen to me and it's always when I actually can be arsed to do long in depth crits on peoples work. |
well, I'll give you the brief summary:
it was pretty good, I like your writing style, nothing seemed too forced, which was good. The stanza with the names in was really, really good, but I can't work out why I liked it so much, and the second stanza's second and third lines were a little clumsily worded in the middle. Those were the big points. I scored you 80%, if it helps. :) |

I'd suggest putting them on paper or at least on a notepad on your desktop or in a folder. EDIT: I'm thinking of posting a piece I've written kind of narrating a past childhood experience, but it's only really narrating what a girl I was with is doing, seeing, writing, etc. I'm not so sure if everyone would understand it, someone decide for me. |
yeah, I actually write all of my songs in the thread making window, start to finish. Most of my songs are written in less than an hour. And that's from conception to posting.
|
Doesn't that make you feel like you're forcing them? I like to write in a little poetry journal type thing, and I like to not feel rushed while writing. I write what comes to me over time, but maybe that's the case for you, just in a smaller time window. Whatever works for you, my friend.
|
sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It does make me focus a lot more, as usually I tend to be all over the place when writing. But at least it helps keep the piece focused and flowing, as it was all written in one sitting.
|
Oh wow. I just talk into my Speakwrite when I make songs. Then I throw away the paper into the memory hole.
I write songs around phrases or sayings i conjure. Hm. |

I'm back, by the way. And a couple days after my computer died, my dog died, too. What a shit weekend. |
Sorry to hear slack, but glad you're back. Yeah, I feel ya, it takes me a couple days to get everything to where I'm comfortable with it, plus I'm busy a lot of the time. Anyway, post some stuff slack.

I have like five notepads that I keep in my bookbag and I try to record everything that pops into my mind. Then it's all just a matter of deciding what to write about, I guess. Purely a subconcious process in the end, I'll bet.
Ha! Post something new. I got nothin'. :) |

Ha! Post something new. I got nothin'. :)
I do this, too. Alot of the time I don't write it down, but simply file it away into my mind. I like to go out and "people watch." Or just take a walk through the woods; capture abstract images and words, think on them; and develop them into prose. |
I do a lot of things similar to you guys. I watch things around me more carefully or just blatantly fish for ideas. I store everything that I enjoy or seems relevent to me in the my mind, or write it down in a notebook. Occasionally if I don't have either one I jot things in my notepad in my cell phone.
|
When I'm writing a song I often actually write the lyrics initially in about 10 minutes flat. I read through it and if I want crits type it up as it is. It's only when it comes to band practice/ I have poetry crits or whatever that I actually redo it. I usually just redraft the lyrics until I'm happy with them but a lot of the time my writing is purely spontaneous.
|
Speakwrite, is that like...where you speak into the microphone, and it writes it out?
I want to get one of these things.
Eh... I actually dont have one. It was a reference to 1984. :-/ |
I write the really awesome lines that come to my mind and fill the rest with garbage. But then again, I get some sessions in which all flows naturally. Those are good times.
I'll write something later, yeah. And critique as well. I've procrastinated that for a while, sorry pplz :-/ |
alot of the time when I write lyrics i have a guitar across my lap, even when im not playing it, i just feel relaxed with it. I don't write things down in my notepad, i just file them into my head and use them in a song later on where i know itll fit. I suppose I'm abit of a self pretentious writer as i nearly always write about things close to me or things im going through or been through, but hey, at least it comes out good

joshmay, mr. moderator sir. What do you think of a Poetry thread in the S&L forums? It might just be me, but I think it'd be nice to see a separate thread for poetry, mainly because lyrics and poetry may be critiqued in different aspects of writing. Here a poem might be posted and a user's critique might consist of "I can't see this to music, and the flow is odd", or something to that nature, and I think that a separate thread could help prevent that. My only problem with having a poetry thread would be a lack of interest from other users. So my question to everyone else is: What do you guys think of having a thread dedicated to Poetry only? And how many of you would actually post and critique in it?
|
I thought that was what the In-Depth thread was for. :(
