I keep hearing about how good Maynards voice is. Can you guys reccomend me some songs so I can hear his best?
|
check out his scream on ticks and leeches(lateralus), his softer voice on H(aenima), and how he uses a megaphone on eulogy(my favorite, aenima). but all there songs are good, he doesn't suck on any of them.

3 Libras. It doesn't get much better than that. |

Stinkfist Eulogy H Aenima Third Eye The Grudge The Patient Parabola Lateralus Reflection Are his best tracks IMO. |

Do you have any rare covers or something interesting, i need a new song to learn.
robertchapman88 @ gmail.com cheers... maynards best is defniateley Pu**** (salival verison) Other good mentions include... -Parabola -No quarter -The Grudge -You Lied -Eulogy |

|
you lied is a really great song, im like in love with that song right now... its great.
im actually trying to write a song similar to that one. actually, just similar to the verse singing because i really like how the vocals are really slow and it has a ton of reverb it sonds like. i dont know i just love it. but anyway, check out that song, and H., aenima, lateralus, bottom. that should get you started a little bit :) |
I wanna hear this cover! Interesting intereview with that guy from Opeth. ya the interviewer did say ya'll too much.
|
No Quarter is a good cover.
A guy way back there said that 'Stinkfist' is about anal fisting.
How wrong you are. I read something about Stinkfist somewhere, and it is now what I believe the song is about. What i believe, is that Stinkfist is about the desensitisation of the human race. For example, back in the 1970's it was shocking to put certain things on television, like nudity, drugs etc. Nowadays, people dont 'want more', they 'need more' to be stimulated. It's ok to show that stuff now as we are used to it. We, the human race are becoming desensitised. "Knuckle/Fist/Shoulder deep within the borderline". This is saying that we need more and more to stimulate us, and each time we want to get it as close to the borderline (past that being too far) as we can without going over it. Another example would be taking as much heroin as you can to get as stimulated as you can without overdosing.
Lol, Stinkfist is about the media censorship. |
hey im not a huge Tool fan, and i just heard "Grudge"
What do you think about this song, and what album is it on? Thanks.
The grudge is a awesome song. Its on the album "lateralus". It has a one of the best screams by maynard on the cd. I love playing the bass riff in the opening of the song. The drums are so insane, you need like a special set up with bongos and toms. |
The beauty of many of Tool's songs is that people can take their own meanings from them. It's ok for you to post your interpretation of a song, but don't be ignorant whilst doing it.

For tool-Tickz and leeches,Aenima, Pu****, For Apc-3 Libras, The nurse who loved me, Blue, Judith |
This is something I've been meaning to ask for a while. In Ticks & Leeches, at about 3:40 to 5:50, Maynard can be heard screaming in the right channel of my headphones. It's at really low volume and pretty difficult to notice on normal speakers. I've been trying to figure out exactly what he's saying but I'm finding it pretty hard. I think it goes along the lines of
Ahh! Suck! Me dry! Suck! Suck me dry! Suck! Me dry! Suck! Suck me dry Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks. |
He says others things along with that...you can't really tell, he's singing pretty softly, but I'm sure if you look on the official website or something, you'd be able to find it. Enjoy the song, though!

Really? Hush is about censorship as well...though Tool's songs can be interpreted many different ways. |

Most of the time I've been on MX for the last 3 days I've been searching most the Tool related pages I could find on Metacrawler. So far I've found nothing, which is why I asked. And the lyrics I posted appear after it, it just that they seem pretty similiar. |

Thanks.
there are so many songs where he is whispering/screaming in the background, half the time I dont think they are supposed to be figured out, as some are inaudible. Although my favourite has to be the cough on 'A Stranger' (APC I know, but its a general MJK trick). I know there was a story behind it that made me laugh at the time, but i forget the symbolic-ness of it now |
if we were supposed to know, he'd add it to the lyrics on there websites. There is no rule saying you cant figure them out though. To a lot of people that is the beauty of tool and you can sometimes get a new understanding by those barely audible sounds/words.

I downloaded a torrent of 'rare tool trax - narcossis'.
It has some songs i already have on it such as...Muhammed my friend, passenger, revolution and know your enemy. track list... 1. Santa Monica and Orange (Live) 2. Spasm (Peach cover) (Live) 3. Silly Little Love Songs (paul mcCartney cover) (?) 4. Demon Cleaner (Kyuss cover) (Live) 5. Muhammed my friend (w/Tori Amos) (Live) 6. Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd cover) (Live) 7. Wrong Way (Sublime cover) (Live) 8. Passenger (Deftones w/Maynard) (Album track) 9. Know Your Enemy (RATM w/Maynard) (Album track) 10. cold and ugly (4 track demo) 11. hush (4 track demo) 12. part of me (4 track demo) 13. crawl away (4 track demo) 14. sober (4 track demo) 15. jerk off (4 track demo) 16. No quarter (Led Zep cover) What do you know about some of these? The confortably numb cover is the same one i had before, and i'm very suspicious wether that is tool or maynard singing. HWat are these 4 track demos? I am able to mail you a few of these sons if you would like. Or you can get the whole torrent from www.lokitorrent.com search rare tool... |
4 track demos I think are the original group of songs that Tool first put together and sent off to radio, etc, since it is just Opiate - 2 tracks. (although sober is odd being on there)
I've heard pretty much all of the covers on there, though i dont think Tool covered Spasm, as its a 2 guitarist song im pretty sure it was APC, as it sounded more like them from the audio I have (plus its not as good as the original IMO). And I still have my doubts about that comfortably numb one, I mean, it would have had a lot more coverage and attention if they really did do it |
i would like:
Spasm (Peach cover) (Live) Wrong Way (Sublime cover) (Live) the site didn't work when i hit the link, so i you could please send just the two to adamjones_god@yahoo.com |
Clearvision, I'd like to hear spasm if it's a real Tool cover, and I'd also like to hear Santa Monica and Orange. Thanks if you can send them my way.
gregbyers at gmail.com :) |
Sent...
I got a chevelle album the other day, pretty good stuff. Not really relevant, some people think they are like tool but i think their more pop-ish/emo-ish. I got this type of thinking... its pretty cool yeah :thumb: |
There was a review in my guitar magazine saying Chevelle was Tool without the arty pretensions. I burned the page.

i dont really like anyone comparing themselves to TOoL, so good job, i hate chevelle |
Yah no band can really match Tool's sound, exdept maybe ones that have some of the members of Tool in it.
Anyways, I recently found out about Evanescence doing a cover on Orestes... anyone heard it? Because I don't think I want to... |
i dont really like anyone comparing themselves to TOoL, so good job, i hate chevelle
i kind of like them... but thats just me :upset: but yeah ive read some where that they are "majorly influenced" by APC and tool but i dont really see it |
has anyone heard the "terrible lie" cover that they did?
because i havent heard anyone talk about it. its pretty awesome... its like an acoustic version. and i really really dont think its a fake because it sounds jsut like maynard, and i dont hear alot of singers that sound like him. but yeah its awesome |
