Yeah I know I will, I just wish I'd started earlier.

I don't think you should say you'll never be good because it just takes time and dedication and I've already put that in so far but I'm slacking lately.

I've noticed all the good bands nowadays have older musicians.

Racer X, Necrophagist, Symphony X, Bodom, Dragonforce, Nevermore.

That's just a few from my collection of favourites and I know there's loads more but you get the point. I think Trivium are doing well at a young age but the guitarists aren't amazing. Alexi was better at that age. At 21, he was writing/playing FtR or something.

repcak 09-29-2006 04:38 PM

i always was interested in music, but i had a teacher from which i started to hate it... my dad was playing classical guitar and i first picked it up at 10, then at 14 again, but he never was a good teacher, neither he wanted to show me anything. the third time i picked it up was wiht 18 (about 1yrs after i quit music-education with my teacher ^^) and teached it myself. my dad showed my only some chords and after a while showed my some sabbath and zeppelin riffs.

yes, and it takes time... PG played 9 yrs to get where he was 1986!

what do you mean by older musicians? so that they started writing music when they were 24?

Alexi recorded Something Wild with 18...

btw. i'm not sure but i think my wrist is getting better... maybe i will pick the guitar up again next week :D

edit: i don't know if you already did, but you should check out more of Michael Romeos style! you will love him!

MRDuCran 09-29-2006 05:01 PM

No I don't mean older as in that, I mean the good bands TODAY are a lot older than the emp/scene bands that consist of 14 year olds.

My wrist was hurting today actually, but then again, I was going too fast on purpose so I stopped.

I don't like Symphony X that much tbh. I like Romeo's style but I'm not a fan of prog bands. They have some great riffs but I can't listen to a whole song.

repcak 09-29-2006 05:33 PM

imo i think 4yrs of practise and you're good, 6yrs and you're near you heroes.

MRDuCran 09-29-2006 05:41 PM

I'm starting to think that too. I can paly pretty good when I'm properly warmed up. Like earlier, I was playing Alcatrazz tunes and improvising the solos and just going crazy and it sounded ok. I just need to start writing my own to see if I can play my own.

I still can't touch Racer X though.
I don't use sheet music to read from but it's useful for transcribing string concertos and stuff. Also, if you're trying to put piano music onto guitar and the only avaliable source is the sheet music, it helps to be able to read it for obvious reasons.

You don't sound like the kind of person that would use it alot or want to need to understand it, you're probably wasting your time.
Agreed. I dropped the class, but I'll work on Major/Minor scales when I've got some spare time. I picked up German instead, since I need that anyways.

I've been trying out the intro(and plan to learn the entire song) SNBN. I think the hardest thing I've played.

MRDuCran 09-29-2006 07:10 PM

I only find the solo in that song tough tbh.

ghettoeddo 09-29-2006 07:24 PM

ooo mrducran is the leet at guitar!!!

i watched their tuska performancec in 2003 on youtube yesterday good stuff :smoke:

MRDuCran 09-29-2006 07:29 PM

Yeah Alexi plays pretty well at that show.

ghettoeddo 09-29-2006 07:30 PM

he wears eyeshadow.

MRDuCran 09-29-2006 08:44 PM

Nah, eyeliner.
I only find the solo in that song tough tbh.
Hmm. I've gotten to the verse. I'm going slower than I normally take a song since I want to get each part right.

The triplets aren't bad. The lead on the AD strings is somewhat tricky, but I'll get it. (cleanly)

You're a way better guitarist though.

Necrophagist are awesome, i didnt know people knew about em lol. i think im goin to see em soon.

by the way, how old was alexi when he started playing. i really wish my parents had pushed me onto playing the violin/viola at an early age lol

Po0sH 09-30-2006 03:07 AM
Yeah Alexi plays pretty well at that show.
Yeah he does. If I recall on the CHildren of Bodom solo he hit a lot of bad notes. Thing is with alexi, you never know if he hits the solos, he is never consistent with pulling his stuff off. I think he got lazy. On tokyo warhearts, he does really good.

repcak 09-30-2006 06:48 AM

my wrist is much better today; i can angle my wrist and it doesn't cracks anymore. though when i angle my wrist i feel the tension and a little pain... but its much better than 2days ago... :D

Me too. :) (hopefully)

Alexi was 5 when he started playing the violin and also learnt piano but started playing the guitar at 10 when he heard Passion and Warfare by Steve Vai.

Unfortunately, that's true. It's a shame he messes up sometimes because his solos are really well written but he did play really well on TW. :) He always seems to play SNBN really well too, the arpeggio interlude part.

That's good news. Keep resting it and hopefully it'll be healed soon. :smoke:
