How was it used?

"Tackle" is definitely an American Football term, used when a player on defense brings down the ballcarrier.

"Hustle" is generally used whenever a player in any sport gives all his effort on a play (ie, "Because of Trot Nixon's great hustle, he was able to go from first to third on Mueller's single")
