Hooray for a real Toolband update. Most straightforward writing I've ever read from Blair. I'm pretty intrigued by the fact that there's voice overs on the album...
Give a summary for those of us who don't even bother to wade through that shit anymore.

deadinholywood 01-12-2006 09:22 PM
we calculated that Salma will probably do her little nightclub snake-dance at least three thousand more times as they put the finishing touches on the mixing of the new recording (segues, voice overs, effects, etc.). Here I should explain that, for whatever reason, Joe Barresi has the Salma Hayek dance sequence from the movie “From Dusk ‘Till Dawn” on a constant loop on the large monitor in the studio*. This has been playing non-stop throughout the entire recording/mixing process, so if you figure the approximate time of the loop (i.e. Salma's dance) and know that they put in about 12 plus hour days(6 days a week), you’ll get some idea of how much longer they’ll be at the console tweaking the thing
This made me laugh... but i wish they would spend less time watching salma dance and more time finishing the album.
Voice overs??? more stuff like Faaip De Oiad? or do you think that it will be within the songs themselves?

ThePatient 01-12-2006 09:59 PM

I have to say I'm surprised no one has figured out how long 3000 Salma Hayek scenes take...

Killtacular 01-12-2006 10:26 PM

The dvd's are 13.99 each here.

Heh, well no one has taken the time to do it on these boards but check out these people..they've done some math already...

They've also mentioned something about the voiceovers on the album...or live dvd? When I first read the update I thought 'voice overs' were a bit odd for an album...I figured that perhaps he might have been talking about the dvd. Doesn't seem likely though. Really, who knows.

Well, I actually did DL the scene and all I can say is...."THAT WAS FEKIN HOOOT!!!"....But on to more serious matters.

The dance aprox. took 4min. so 4*3000=12000min
12000/60=200hrs
200hrs/12=17days (aprox)
17/6= 3 weeks (aprox)

So in conclusion the mixing should atleast take 3 weeks.
Add a couple a weeks for factory pressing the CDs and Artwork print and all that crap and u would most probably end up in march....
Knowing Tool...this may all be a whole lot of Bull****..

Cheers:chug:
It's amusing that their fans seem to be obsessing over possible hidden messages for album release dates etc, completely missing what's actually going on.
That about says all I need.

clearvision 01-13-2006 01:09 PM

April release.

Probably after the 1st, they'll pull a big prank this year.

Maynards voice is sex in the puscifer tune. Thanks to whoever uploaded it.

kurrpt 01-13-2006 01:31 PM

what?!

is that the new single or something?

Give me a few examples.

Thanks mate! I actually like it; it's not Tool, but it's decent.

Futuro 01-13-2006 03:11 PM
Give me a few examples.
I must be thinking of something else. What Im thinking of is done on just about every recording nowadays.

Shadius 01-13-2006 03:28 PM

A voiceover is where you put a voice, over a scene, or piece of music, or whatever. I initially thought he was talking about doubling the vocals, or tripling, like they usually do in music now to make it sound lusher.

Tool's Bottom, I might consider a voice over, with Henry Rollins. Or could it be more on the lines of Third Eye, with the Bill Hicks thing, and the News Reporter guy.

Either way; cool.

Oh, okay. I think Blair means voice over like what is described in the wikipedia definition. A voice that describes a story or tells a story, or something like that. Like the first track on Dream Theaters "Scenes From a Memory." Then again...who the hell knows what Blair is ever talking about?

repcak 01-13-2006 05:41 PM

MJK voice on this song is a little bit... äh... different

The song itself isn't that good, but his voice sounds alright, I rekon.

They're good. The toplessness was a little odd though. Must be somewhere hot.

denboy 01-13-2006 06:19 PM

That was pretty damned cool

At times the vocalist sounded almost exactly like maynard... .

.. At other times.. . he didnt

Otherside 01-13-2006 06:40 PM

I actually prefered that dudes(live) voice at times over Maynard. But sometimes he was a bit off.

denboy 01-13-2006 07:25 PM

His voice was very.. Anti-climatical.. Boring.. At the end of the song.. That's the part where he's supposed to really let it rip. .But.. He didn't.
Other than that I thought that was a very solid vocal performance

nowitzki 01-13-2006 07:39 PM

I thought that was a great job, not many bands could pull off a Tool cover that well.

Darkness 01-13-2006 07:45 PM

I thought it was great in pretty much every way.

BlindWriting 01-13-2006 07:47 PM

Neat cover. The bassist couldn't get the rhythm of that opening/repeated line, but other than that well done all around.

Shadius 01-13-2006 08:44 PM

Agreed. The vocals towards the middle section lost it a bit, too, but he was very good.

You mean like... narration? Wow... maybe it's a concept album.

I don't know if this has been posted before, but i found this homemade video for reflection on google. I think it's pretty cool.
