Zombies Ate My Neighbours 09-20-2006 01:06 PM

Heh, good luck.

unknownsoldier12 09-20-2006 01:26 PM
Well that's what it takes, unfortunately. I'm getting really bored of actually practising, but being able to play hard stuff is a great feeling, it's just the journey there sucks.

I have a picking question (omg). It's more of a blues thing and I've never practised it before because I thinkz bl00s iz teh ghey, etc.

So:

E------5------------5-------
B----5---8p5----5--8p5--- etc
G-7b---------7b-----------

Now it's all in triplets, but it's a 5 note repeating pattern so it creates an interesting feel over a 4/4 beat.

Would you pick it:

Down, down, down, up...and then repeat?
I tend to economy pick those type of arpeggios

i would do it

up up down down up up down down

looking at it in that fashion, its pretty easy to tell it would fit 4/4

repcak 09-20-2006 02:05 PM

i have to spend every day the exact amount of time for playing guitar.

if i play 2h hours every day and once i play for 4hours my wrist hurts... its not because of bad technique, its because of stretching, and difficult songs... i hate it... today its the same... made a pause for one day, played for 4hours yesterday and today i can't play any difficult songs... only easy ones, with easy fingerings...
but to be sure i would ask my guitar teacher next time if i hold my wrist in the right position... but this will be in october...

or i just rush to much in stretching my sinews

unknownsoldier12 09-20-2006 02:08 PM

take small breaks in between....

you'll learn that giving your brain time to "catch up" is very beneficial.

If you've ever worked on a riff and were having difficult and couldn't understand why exactly, woke up the next day and it was much easier, it gives you an idea of what im talking about

repcak 09-20-2006 02:44 PM

i should take breaks... but while playing guitar you use muscles... if you run 5km every day and on the other day 45km you will break down. you just can't.
playing guitar is all about muscles and when i play one day too much, its too much and on the next day i have to play less or make a one-day break. i know all that, but i can't do much about it... some days i just don't wanna play much or don't have the time, and when i have time and have fun i don't wanna stop.
yesterday i just couldn't stop, i wished i could play till 2-3am but i have to wake up at 8am so i went to bed. today i played for 1 1/2h and now i will stop - i don't want to make it worse and hope tomorrow everything will be ok again.

btw. i just realized that i never really learnt a solo  i play leads, licks, scale-runs, riffs but i never learnt a "solo" from a song... i have to change that, but most are just too boring or too difficult for me.

repcak 09-20-2006 02:48 PM

wtf are you? and why are you laughing... can you pls leave this thread in peace ?... or even better... just leave MX.

don't speak to me anymore, thanks

unknownsoldier12 09-20-2006 02:49 PM

learning some one else's solos is really overrated to begin with, IMO, so i wouldn't worry about it

Ghosts Revenge 09-20-2006 02:51 PM

hm... maybe...

btw. i just wanted to make a small discussion with repcak and ghost; i.a.w.: with me and myself :D

it was really a big fun, but i thought if i will do it, and reveal my secret in the end, both accounts will be banned. so i will stop now...

summary: Ghosts Revenge = repcak
it was funny that you just didn't got it :p

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 02:52 PM

Haha I've learnt nearly all of Alexi's solos. :p

Ghosts Revenge 09-20-2006 02:53 PM

all? and mastered all?

proof it...

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 03:00 PM

I said:

I've LEARNT, which means I know what he's playing.

And I said NEARLY ALL, which doesn't mean all of.

I didn't say MASTERED or got 100% UP TO SPEED.

unknownsoldier12 09-20-2006 03:02 PM

i only learned one so far

repcak 09-20-2006 03:57 PM

well, if that's so you can "learn" everything by Paul Gilbert... even Get out of my Yard

unknownsoldier12 09-20-2006 03:59 PM

im a little confused by that post...

repcak 09-20-2006 04:04 PM

why?

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 04:09 PM
well, if that's so you can "learn" everything by Paul Gilbert... even Get out of my Yard

Yep.

I can already play the first minute or so of The Curse of Castle Dragon up to speed.

repcak 09-20-2006 04:13 PM

yeah, this song is great.

i listened to the whole album today, and i have to say that only 20-30% of the song are really amazing and great. the other ones are just not 100% my style - i prefer the "metal-style paul gilbert" instead of all the others styles he can play.

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 04:18 PM

Me too. I was hoping it'd be more Racer X style stuff. :(

repcak 09-20-2006 04:31 PM

yeah... Racer X and Mr. Big

i have to listen more to Mr. Big.....

i should hear racer X...

AA-12 09-20-2006 05:26 PM

You guys play too much. Nowadays I play like 15-20 minutes total each few days.

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 05:32 PM
You guys play too much. Nowadays I play like 15-20 minutes total each few days.
That sucks, I don't play enough.

I play about an hour a day now instead of what I'd like which is like 7. I'm seriously slacking off.

AA-12 09-20-2006 05:35 PM

Meh, I just could care less about technicality anymore.

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 05:40 PM

I'd like to think that, but then I'd be lying to myself.

I listen to Racer X and Bodom and I'd die to be able to play that stuff right now, I just wish I'd started playing earlier like these guys, at least I'd have a chance then. I know I'll get there in a few years but it'll feel crap playing stuff like that when I'm 24 or whatever when these guys wrote it all and playing it flawlessly when they were 18/19.

Shattered_Future 09-20-2006 05:57 PM

I stopped playing once I was able to do 16th note sweeps at 350 BPM.

Drunken Viking 09-20-2006 07:12 PM

Pfft, n00b, I stopped when I could do 32nd note sweeps 3 fingered, at 400 BPM in every time signature known to man.

I don't play enough either. I shhot for at least two solid hours and lately it's been playing dispersed in 3-4 hours. Good stuff.

And sweep picking is very frustrating.

Huber 09-20-2006 10:13 PM

I've had to many years playing without proper teaching, now I have a college professor teaching me all this good technique and it's going to take a whole lot of practice to change my bad habits :(
