So I'm back after switching internet providers and having complete hell trying to set up an internet connection.

Woo!

That sounds like fun, welcome back. See page 770 for us questioning your wherabouts.

At one point during a game, the coach called one of his 7-year-old hockey players aside and asked,

"Do you understand what cooperation is? What a team is?"

The little boy nodded in the affirmative.

Do you understand that what matters is not whether we win or lose, but how we play together as a team?"

The little boy nodded yes.

So," the coach continued, "I'm sure you know, when a penalty is called, you shouldn't argue, curse, attack the referee, or call him a pecker-head. Do you understand all that?"

Again the little boy nodded.

He continued, "And when I call you off the ice so that another boy gets a chance to play, it's not good sportsmanship to call your coach a dumb asshole', is it?"

Again the little boy nodded.

"Good," said the coach. "Now go over there and explain all that to your mother."

 Nice.

Yeah my internet was messed up and took me ages to try and setup the connection after switching ISP's.

During that time I've been moaning about how crap my job is etc.

What's everyone been up to?

1) Could anyone reccomend me the best MF Doom album to buy?
2) Did anybody know about this new release which has appeared from nowhere?

I'm gonna be watching The Pianist in a few hours.

Hehehe....I said Pianist.

You know what? The award for the most overrated movie in history goes to....

Rocky. One of the most awful movies I've ever seen.

I borrowed the DVD from my sister like a year ago, watched the trailer, and was like "....no."

Zappa 01-07-2006 12:38 AM

I ordered a Space Phone today. It's a really simple device, comprised of two conical "ear trumpets" and a helical coil connecting them. It makes super sweet sounds when you hit the coil, or talk into one of the cones, etc. It sounds like a synthesizer, but is entirely acoustic.

I also went to seem some young local bands tonight, and had a good time with dancing.

br3ad_man 01-07-2006 12:40 AM

haha. I pretty much had to watch it because one of my friends loves it, so I needed to watch it to say I'd watched it. Right from the start, I wondered how a movie about boxing starring Sylvester Stallone could be any good, but I figured Million Dollar Baby was awesome, so maybe I'd be pleasantly surprised.

Quite the opposite.

Hey Zappa, is your Alesis Micron good? Easy for a beginner? I almost bought a microKorg yesterday, but resisted the temptation to make an impulse buy. I'm considering either getting the Korg or an Alesis like yours. The Alesis looks cooler but the Korg looks easier to use.

I've never played a microKORG. I bought the Alesis based on internet reviews that seemedto favor it over the microKORG. I felt I needed full-sized keys, and some of the other features seemed appealing. The Micron is pretty user friendly, but I'm coming to the point where I really desire more knobs. It might be nicer for you to have less stuff on the board, I don't know. If you're not a tight budget, I might look into the Ion over the Micron.

I'm on a pretty tight budget, so I'm looking for something under 1k AU. I guess it will just come down to pricing. The microKorg might get annoying without full size keys, especially since I already play a keyboard a bit. On the other hand, it will be easier to get from overseas for a good price and the vocoder might be a good feature.

The Micron has a vocoder, but doesn't come with a mic. It's also insanely stupid and useless.

EDIT: Also...there's always real analog. I've been interested in the Roland-106, which you may be able to get secondhand for not much at all.

Check out www.vintagesynth.com for more information than you need.

The boy I'm dating got a microKorg for Christmas that I've played. He said it was pretty easy to figure out and tweak and all that, and it didnt seem hard to use. It also has a sweet microphone that alters your voice when you talk into it and play it. The whole instrument is pretty sweet and sound, probably totally worth the $400.

I've been looking into getting a synth myself, but too am torn between the Korg and the Alesis.

Zappa 01-07-2006 12:58 AM

I feel like I should spend more time with my Alesis really working with it, but I'm starting to get discouraged by its lack of real-time synthesis capabalities. Thinking of selling it and getting an Ion or something. Though I of course can't get all my money back for it, and I just got it.

I'd really like to get a real analog. I'll be scouting the pawn shops next week in the city. The other two synths that were reccomended to me were a Roland EG 101 and a Roland Juno 60. I'd probably like the Juno 60 a bit more because I'm looking for one where I can make a lot of wierd noise with. I'll start checking out garage sales too.

Electrocution 01-07-2006 10:18 AM

I kind of want a synth to mess around with, but the only piano experience I have was lessons when I was 6, and I don't know if I want to drop a couple hundred for something I might end up hating.

Last night 7 of my boys and I explored an abandoned insane asylum. It was scary as shit. If you're in college and on Facebook you can see the pictures I took here:

ITP: I bitch about little kids at the bowling alley.

Well last night I went to the bowling alley with a couple of friends. In the next 3 lanes there were about 20 - 25 kids who's ages ranged from 2 - 6. It was some kid's birthday party. We didn't mind them at first, as they did nothing to bother us. Well about 3 of them walk over into our lane just as I'm about to bowl and roll 3 balls down our alley! I bowled my ball fast enough to where none of their balls messed up my score. This happened about 5 times until some big black guy, whom I think worked at the bowling alley, came over and had a conversation with us that went something like this:

Black Guy: I don't wanna see 2 balls go down that alley again!
Me: It's not us, it's the little kids next to us.
BG: I don't care! Don't let it happen again our your asses are out of here!
Me: Ok, fine then.

After about 10 minutes, a little kid, big smile on her face with ball in hand walks over to our alley swings her arm back as if she's about to roll the ball and I let out the most epic "NOOOOOOOO!!" ever. She just stared at me, then a man, who I think was her father, came over and moved her away. That was the last time it ever happened.

Why don't parents beat their kids anymore for acting up and not doing what they're supposed to be doing?
