I agree with Disconnection Notice. Most people I know just say,"Oh, that's old. Why do you listen to old music?"

If classic rock does influence our generation of music, I think it could be a good thing. Maybe more groups would think twice about writing some of those ridiculous lyrics that they come up with.

Exactully, trendy leads to influence. I see new artists coming out with covers of Classic Rock bands all the time now.

It would be cooler if they actually made good covers...There are a few good ones, but most aren't.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-03-2005 06:08 PM

Hilary Duff covered My Generation!!!!!

I dislike the Another Brick in the Wall cover by Korn. Now everyone I know thinks I'm talking about Korn when I talk about that song. :upset:

I got my first Grateful Dead cd today. :D

Classic rock will always be influential to pop culture, but it shouldn't encompass it. Like it or not, new music has to be made, just because some of it might be good/remembered as "classic" by the next generation.

Good, which one? I'm in the process of becoming a Deadhead.

I own 11 Zep albums, I guess that tops my list(old).

Hillary Duff covered My Generation

/begins to cry, becomes emo kid and slits wrists

Why would she take such a classic song that she probably can't comprehend and cover it?. This is the end of the world as we know it. :upset:

In other news, The Who version I believe is one of the best songs ever.

Cool avatar Lunch can you make it bigger?

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-03-2005 06:22 PM

Well, actually I got two Grateful Dead cds (a guy burned them for me). I got Aoxomoxoa and some kind of greatest hits one. He burned me some Black Sabbath too.

Aoxomoxoa owns.

/looks at avatar.

magicbus 02-03-2005 06:23 PM

Do you have to ask permission of the band to cover their song? I never got how this worked.

If so, I don't know what The Who were thinking.

If not, I'm going to make a cd of cover songs.

Maybe you need permission, or maybe just crediting them is enough. Don't know.

I don't thnk you need permission, I know you don't need permission to change the words in the song though, so I figure if it's legal to do that then it should be legal to do covers w/out permission

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-03-2005 06:27 PM

Sadly, I can no longer listen to The Who's My Generation, or any of Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy. My 8-track player ate the tape. :upset:  I guess I'll just have to buy it on cd now.

No I can't, I don't have any cool picture editing device.

Edit: Turns out I do, let me mess around with it.

thickasabrick 02-03-2005 06:35 PM

You are allowed to cover any song you want, as long as you give credit to the real songwriter.

Who do you think the most covered artist is? I'd say Bob Dylan. Mr Tambourine Man, Knockin on Heavens Door, Sub. Homesick Blues, tons of his songs have been covered by artists. Even in the sixties artists were putting out versions of his songs, and every decade at least one band has a hit with one of his songs.

Schyma, you can't just steal someone's avatar like that.

lunch998 02-03-2005 06:47 PM

I liked using all of Aoxomoxoa better anyway.

thickasabrick 02-03-2005 06:51 PM

Having two people use the same avatar is just downright confusing.
