Adam Jones is GOD 01-05-2005 03:13 PM
not to get off topic, but adam, could you check the thread i made today in the jam. I got an audition for a band, who plays tool, and i was wondering which songs to play. Apparently they're into APC as well, which is kewl, i could give you a link. I wanted your opinion on the matter if it wasnt too mucht o ask
looks like my man KKKKKocaine got you sorted there advise wise. But as for songs to play, Part of me is an easy jam one, drums can be improved on the whole. Most of opiate stuff seems good for a jam.

But everyone really who plays tool will have learned/played Schisim, usually a middle ground

i figured id stay away alltogether from schism and go like the patient, part of me, and jimmy, which i dont think many people play. I could show them that i have interests in all their songs, just these were the ones that stuck out to me ya know. Maybe even triad, up to the point he uses that epilady hair remover

W00t it's time for some big questions...

Today, while very bored i was skimming round the toolshed forums (scary place i know, full of smackheads). I stumbled across some weird sh!t before getting a headache :upset:

Alot of people there are very into metaphysics and occult magic, much like the band. However I'm completely lost in where to start background reading, i wanna look into the basic concepts such as the tetrahedral star thingys and merkaba etc. But i also want to look into this Rennes Le Chateau thing and how it relates back to mary magdalene. As i know this a theme adopted by APC in alot of songs.

Someone spoke of some cool sh!t in ticks and leeches...What do you think of this? How the heck to tool write this? And what is the latin translation? (I couldn't think of any way to translate the latin) DO you know of any more cool things like this?

Quote - mu-sick off toolband
"@1:43 into ticks and leeches Adam is playing a chord progression of D-A-D, while Justin underlines it with a bass line of F-A-C-E, and Dann'y hi hat open & close pattern is translated into morse code as Y-O-U-R. OH MY GORSH!! FACE YOUR DAD! The song is clearly stating that his father is a tick that has been leeching of his money and emotional stability for years and it's time to face him although he can't because the love is too strong. Also, if you take the initials of the people I mentioned in the order of "face your dad" you get J(ustin) D(anny) A(dam), JDA is abbreviated latin for Jusus Domini Adane which roughly translates to..."

Alot of talk on the board is of Subliminal messages in tool's music. Or background whispers would be a better way to put it. Especially in No Quarter (a song i have really gotten into recently) What do you folks know of these?

Lastly, Alot of people on the board seem to be stoners and think tool promote drugs. Are tool regular drug users? Is their music designed to be enjoyed with drugs? (If this violates the rules just say and I'll edit it out)

If you don't for whatever reason want to express opinions etc on this site you can email me at robertchapman88 at gmail.com

thanks

kurrpt 01-05-2005 03:39 PM

as far as i know, maynard hates them and hates even cig smokers, so i would believe thats a big no

As far as books, that is research itself. I have an extensive collection of books dealing with metaphysics and such. A good one to start with is "Everything in this book is a lie, but its exactly how things are."

As for Tool fans being druggies and Tool designing thier music to be listened to while on drugs, this is totally false and demeaning to most Tool fans. I tend to think of myself as highly intelligent and feel my connection with Tool is more of an intellectual thing as well as a kind of Metaphysical thing.

clearvision 01-05-2005 04:11 PM

Oh i forgot my last question...Can anyone get the videos/Mp3's on Lachrymology.com to work?

Cheer For the book Ken, I'll check it out

CarRamRod 01-05-2005 10:35 PM

sorry if this point has already been brought up, i haven't read all the posts, but anyway, has anybody in here heard of bill hicks, he is a comic that heavily influenced tool, he is heard talking at the begining of Third Eye (see i think drugs have done good......). There is a lot of symbolism used in Tool's lyrics that he used. Like the Third Eye, and Arizona bay (a Bill Hicks CD) I recommend him to anybody who has an open mind and wants change

Jezen 01-05-2005 10:44 PM

Cheers mate I will keep that in mind.

If these people, as clearvision said, are into occult magic and metaphysics, then generally, drugs are perceived differently. For instance, drugs induce a certain psychadelic sense, and generally, a calming effect on the brain. In older times in Europe, drugs, well mushrooms at least were used as a way to delve into the third world, a way to see things that could not be perceived in reality on the basic plane (basically, hallucinogens). Either way, drugs were used in shamanistic rituals to speak with god, or gods, Lugh, Nuada, Ogma(gods of the celtic era). The effect was thought to bring about contact with a third plane/reality that paralleled our own.

Also, With asian nations and their beliefs of old, drugs were used to properly see 'Chi' (spiritual energy/dragon energy) which pulsed throughout the land.

Besides from all that, people of today use drugs differently, for the wrong reasons, and it makes me wanna crack the sh*ts and slaughter people.

G_Mac07: i got it, thanks, rep++ for you:)

ckeaenaiyn 01-06-2005 12:34 AM

ok now i am a tool fan but i might sound like an idiot for saying this: i heard that tool broke up in 2003 because they believed the world was going to end or something. and since they havent released a new cd since lateralus or done a tour lately i figured it was right....if anyone knows as a fact that tool has NOT broken up, please yell at me because i really would like to know if my idols are still together or not. thanks and sorry for being a "dumb***, belligerent ****er"

dUSK 01-06-2005 12:46 AM

I can assure you Tool are together and are currently working on their next album :)

Prince of Darkness 01-06-2005 06:38 AM

I recently dicovered No Quarter, the Tool cover of the ( I think) Led Zeppelin song.
I can honestly say that it is one of my fav song by tool. I love it!
Maynard obviously loves LZ, he covered No Quarter for Tool and covered When The Levee Breaks for APC. great.

jamesclelland 01-06-2005 01:32 PM

if your a floyd fan as well, check out tools cover of comfortably numb. not as many changes as no quarter, but perfect.

as for the drug posts earlier, i've heard in an interview that danny said they use drugs for artistic purposes only. forgot the site address, but search for it in the toolshed, under articles.

supermasterp0rnoman 01-06-2005 01:46 PM

^is there anyway you could send me the version of comfortably numb?

clearvision 01-06-2005 03:04 PM

OMGWTFBBQ!

Is that tool, Only 2 guitars and a 'singer' in the song. The 'singer' doesn't even know the words

Adam Jones is GOD 01-06-2005 03:11 PM

I have never heard of Tool covering Comfortably numb.

there may be a slight chance APC did, but unless it really sucked and they kept it secret, I must have missed something

Edit: jonny, whats with the name change? I like the fact you have an awesome song in it now though :thumb:

kurrpt 01-06-2005 03:12 PM

ive never heard anything like that either. It must have been like a one time thing at some weird show or something if it actually happended

Prince of Darkness 01-06-2005 03:37 PM

I've got Comfortably Numb. the Tool one. really. Its ok.

If anyone wants it, tell me how to send it to you.

clearvision 01-06-2005 04:08 PM

If he does send it to me at ... robertchapman88 at gmail.com

^I wrote it that way to avoid spam...just attach it and send, you should be able to send it through a yahoo or hotmail account.

While I have the chance, I'd like to jump in and ask a question. I've heard many people talking about gmail, so I finally decided to see what it was all about. When I went to the site, there was no way to sign up? Does anyone know when more slots will be available? How did seemingly everyone here get an account, and I missed out on it?

clearvision 01-06-2005 05:05 PM

Because people get accounts by invitation...post your email here and one will wing it's way to you. Basically gmail offers so much space and the ability to send big attachments, perfect for a music forum.

Thanks

jamesclelland 01-06-2005 05:30 PM

search for c.n. tools version on your kassa, napster, or whatever you got. i had it burned and it would take me more time than i want to spend sending it out through email.
i'm really lazy.

dUSK 01-06-2005 11:58 PM

I'd also like a g-mail invite, hotmails really blown lately. If anyone could help me out I'm gregs_new_address at hotmail.com (avoiding spam)

I'd like to hear this cover of Comfortably Numb. Thanks.

I searched for it. I got a live version witht he singer basically humming the tune and a dude strumm ing an effect-filled guitar. Didn't seem like tool to me and was pretty crapy, so i thought i got the wrong version.

jamesclelland 01-07-2005 11:28 AM

yeah, i sounds like a studio version, then at the end you hear a club anouncer or something. on my version at least. i will sound pretty much the same, just newer equipment.

clearvision 01-07-2005 11:35 AM

james, where di you get your version from? What is your email, I'll send you the one i have so you can compare, 'cause the one i have is pretty crappy, Med will back me up on that one :) . Would be nice to hear a good cover of that song by tool.

jamesclelland 01-07-2005 11:47 AM

If you give me your email i will quit being lazy and take it off the cd and send it to you.

Do you have any rare covers or something interesting, i need a new song to learn.
