Zombies Ate My Neighbours 09-20-2006 12:04 PM
Looks like he's given up on MX now, he said he would but noone believed him at the time.
I think im gonna do the same as of Sunday, well, i really hope i do.

repcak 09-20-2006 12:08 PM

why is the tab with string skipping impossible to play? its fast but not impossible....

... and who are you zombie? what was your name before you got banned?

Zombies Ate My Neighbours 09-20-2006 12:10 PM

look at the tuning too

string skips at that speed are solid

repcak 09-20-2006 12:12 PM

solid yeah, but it doesn't seem to be impossible to play for guitarists like vai, satch, petrucci and gilbert.

... you don't wanna say who you are, right?

Zombies Ate My Neighbours 09-20-2006 12:13 PM

Gilbert says he finds it extremely hard, that how hard it is.

repcak 09-20-2006 12:14 PM

i give up... you just don't want to reveal your ex-account :(

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 12:15 PM

Try and play it as slow as you can...can you even stretch that...?

unknownsoldier12 09-20-2006 12:16 PM

whats the stretch DuCran?

Zombies Ate My Neighbours 09-20-2006 12:17 PM

Ill admit, layed out linearly like that, it looks ok. But when you get your guitar out and you have trouble getting your right hand to cross the strings, then you see the speed, consistency and fluidness of how PG plays it, then youll think 'oh crap'.

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 12:18 PM
whats the stretch DuCran?
Haven't you looked at the tab? It's on the previous page I think.

There's 13-18-22, 10-14-18.

Paul says it's impossible so it is.

unknownsoldier12 09-20-2006 12:19 PM

i might be able to do that....

in like 3 weeks of practice

Zombies Ate My Neighbours 09-20-2006 12:21 PM

It's reminiscent of the opening run to Technical Difficulties' solo [if you dont play it as the pentatonic box shape]

repcak 09-20-2006 12:22 PM

oh, ****... i haven't seen the stretches

so, how does he recorded it? or, there is maybe a different way to play it.

Zombies Ate My Neighbours 09-20-2006 12:23 PM

That tab is how he played it, he uses a double neck guitar to facilitate the different tuning live.

I have a version of it played in E standard, sort of sweep picked.

He hasn't played it live though.

Zombies Ate My Neighbours 09-20-2006 12:25 PM

He has tbh.

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 12:27 PM
He has tbh.
That intro part...?

Zombies Ate My Neighbours 09-20-2006 12:27 PM

Yeah, at a few clinics and alike.

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 12:29 PM

I've only seen one video and he just plays some random Giblert licks and then screams Get Out of my Yard into his pickups. Is there a video of it?

repcak 09-20-2006 12:29 PM

there are things in the world we will never understand! one of the things is how ppl like paul gilbert are able to play such things....

repcak 09-20-2006 12:35 PM

omg... i see copyright problems here:

Actually, that came out before Are You Dead Yet.

They moaned at Bodom for it and made a comment like, "don't they have Google in Finland", or something like that. It wasn't a personal comment directly to the band but they said it somewhere.

I'm off to go practise the Midnight Madness solo for a while.

unknownsoldier12 09-20-2006 12:51 PM

Im back to practicing the Universal Mind intro on a daily basis...

I was using the metronome on that for 45 minutes straight last night

MRDuCran 09-20-2006 12:57 PM

Well that's what it takes, unfortunately. I'm getting really bored of actually practising, but being able to play hard stuff is a great feeling, it's just the journey there sucks.

I have a picking question (omg). It's more of a blues thing and I've never practised it before because I thinkz bl00s iz teh ghey, etc.

So:

E------5------------5-------
B----5---8p5----5--8p5--- etc
G-7b---------7b-----------

Now it's all in triplets, but it's a 5 note repeating pattern so it creates an interesting feel over a 4/4 beat.

Would you pick it:

Down, down, down, up...and then repeat?

Zombies Ate My Neighbours 09-20-2006 12:59 PM

I would probably alt pick the lot of it.

You could always play - D D D U, the for the 2nd 7b continue with an upstroke, then down for the 5 on the b string, Like a full sweep pattern.

AA-12 09-20-2006 01:00 PM

/joins in sucking off gilbert

which solo to you practise? which band?

Hmm, that could work. I'll go try it even though I'll probably fail miserably because I've never played that lick before in my life.

And it's 8th triplets at 200bpm...<_<

Good luck to me.
