Anyway, I recently picked up The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Theory. For once, I'm reading about music theory, and I actually get it! I'm finally able to figure out the root of at least half the problems I had with my compositions thus far, and I haven't even gotten to the chapter on chord progressions yet. For the first time in my life, I get it!

So, I just pissed off my new boss, before I even started. You see, I told her I could get this Saturday off from my normal work, and do a shift for her. However, my work was being particularly obtuse about it, so I couldn't... I just sent her an email explaining that I feel bad about making a promise I couldn't keep, so I hope she understands. :(

Frankly, I don't see why we have the whole system. It doesn't accomplish much at all.

Take a look at me. I'm one of the most prominent regulars around here, have my weekly spotlight threads going, have helped out a fair share of newbies, and put all the fools and trolls in their place at every opportunity. But so far I've only accumulated 3 rep. Ken just gave a little spiel about how he reps people that tell newbies to read the rules when they make an illegal thread, but this is news to me. On more than one occassion, I've produced a thread, an own, or a bit of useful guidance that I was particularly proud of, and didn't get a bit of rep for it.

So I just stopped caring. The system ultimately accomplishes next to nothing, and there's no way the mods can be everywhere to properly distribute rep fairly.

Who gives a crap? It's an INTERNET FORUM, for crap's sake. Nobody's gonna care that you "have 4 stars" or "3 bazillion rep points" in the real world.

Rep doesn't really serve any purpose except for having people bitch about how little they have.

And no, none of you in this thread do it...I've seen others do it though.

Back when rep could be given by anybody, I kind of liked it. I could actually see where I was making a difference.

Sure it's an internet forum, but it's still a group of people, a community. And one that I'm happy to be a part of. It felt pretty good to know my efforts were appreciated.

Oh, and I like having a job, but I really think that having a job in high school is overrated. Unless you're starving, or need to pay rent(lol@ Chris) you really don't need one. :-/ If you just want a little pocket change for gas and cds, which are my two money pits, you can just get a a once-a-week deal helping out some old person with their gardening and lawn. They typically pay you better than what you could get at a grocery store, and it's pretty easy stuff. :shrug:
