On a scale of 1 to 10 , how well would you guys say you know standard notation ( 1 worst 10 best ) ?

bottlerocket 10-30-2004 12:41 PM

^ Meaning written music?

Hello all.
Hah! The neighbours might!

If I lived with musicians the jamming would never cease...
I live in a basement apartment with 4 other guys. Together we have 4 guitarists, 1 bassist (:D), a drummer and a vocalist.

Our upstairs neighbours stomp on our floor just about any time anyone plugs in, so mostly it's acoustic jams, sans drums, but it's still good fun.

TomJoad 10-30-2004 12:46 PM

gaslight 10-30-2004 12:49 PM
sight read?
Sight reading is when you take a piece of sheet music, and can look at it and read/play it straight away.

woah. I guess i can do that for my level. I caqn read mosyl any peaace on first or second try and my teacher gives me. But **** , how do people actuly know every single note of the bass by looking at the sheet music. I can only dream about something like that

bottlerocket 10-30-2004 12:52 PM

^ Years of study and practice. Very dedicated musicians can do it.

gaslight 10-30-2004 12:54 PM

It's pretty intense stuff yeah .

It is attainable though, my teacher's have all told me that all it takes is practice. They have all been very modest people though.

I can sight read tab :p.

lol woot. I can read most of it , but i dont liek tabs that much , its hard to get the rythm for the song unless you have osmthing like guitar pro

bottlerocket 10-30-2004 01:00 PM

^ I have no problem with rhytm. I notice when people start off at bass they had difficulty keeping the rhythm and need metronomes, but I have absolutely no problem learning rhythm. I have difficulty learning the notes and the patterns, but with rhythm I can do it very well. Not to brag, but I think it's weird.

No , i mean i find it hard to figure out the rythm of a song , by just readin tab unless youve heard the song before

 Vag

gaslight 10-30-2004 01:02 PM

Yeah, he just means that some tabbers are pretty hopeless at representing rhythm :p.

Guitar Pro 3 was my favourite way to learn songs for ages. I still use it for composing.
