Best line ever.
That was the real last line in the original though. I guess Peter Jackson couldn't update EVERYTHING.
Wait, it was a remake?

It is incredible just how many people are having a fit over that last line. I personally didn't find anything horrible about Black's delivery and thought it was a good tribute to the original. Perhaps people would've been happier though if we had Sean Penn playing a dry Denham, with Daniel Day-Lewis providing his most dramatic performance yet as the voiceover for Kong's grunts. My point: the whole movie was mindlessly entertaining cinematic fluff so there's no point in picking apart a single line.

Oh, and I found Jack Black to be the most enjoyable character in the movie.
the whole point of his character was to be disliked. there was nothing enjoyable about the character, or the performance.

it's not just that single line. the dialogue for most of the film sucks balls, the final line just epitomizes that

Robert Crumb 01-03-2006 03:58 PM

I really didn't have any expectations for King Kong so I thought it was just fine. Unremarkably fine. Plus I didn't pay my way so yeah. Satisfied customer.

Radiobass81 01-03-2006 05:05 PM

King Kong wasn't bad...

Oh, so every time the audience laughed at something Black did, they were reacting the wrong way? There were plenty of parts that were obviously meant to be comedic and Black did a fine/good job with them. And since none of the other characters were interesting, Black was the most enjoyable character in the movie.

Why do you find it necessary to express everything in extreme platitudes?

JonM 01-03-2006 05:20 PM

I actually thought King Kong was pretty good. If you let it be racist, it was racist, but if you let it be an action movie and a tribute, it was very enjoyable.

i didn't mean to come accross like that, it's just my opinion

and i found that black did nothing humorous in the enitre movie, maybe it was because his character was that dislikable in my view

It was just too long. The length was horribly unecessary. If he had cut it down to a little over 2 hours it would have been a lot better. The plane scene at the end was the worst, along with the dinosaur fight.

Kyle 01-03-2006 05:58 PM

I don't know, I actually really enjoyed it. I generally hate most big blockbusters but I liked this and I really Like what he did with Lord Of The Rings. King Kong got a bit boring in places but Peter Jackson is really good at creating epic moments, like the battle scenes in LOTR and the dinosaur stampede in KK. It's not a classic or anything, but it's a fun film to watch even if just for eye candy.

Dayum, that's a nice finish.

Much nicer than the tacky sparkle finish on the ray that I've played. Euch.

'Rays are sexy.

Cut out the gorilla/dino fight  You must be mad! That's what I went to the theater to see!

I liked King Kong, but towards the end I couldn't sit still anymore.

BillCosby 01-03-2006 09:24 PM

Just for the record I didn't hate King Kong. I liked it overall, just disliked the corny dialogue.

That's what've I've been hearing about the movie. I don't really think I want to sit through an almost 3 hour movie.
My friend's car broke down, so we're not seeing Good Night and Good Luck tonight. :(

Amelie is really good. Amazingly beautiful filmwork. <3

So my pops got me an MP3 player for christmas and I felt guilty about not using it so here I am throwing on all 300+ albums I have onto it. This is going to take forever. Nothing beats my ol' stereo though.

Definitely. I think all the scenes should individually be cut down. All of what happened was progressive and important to the story, but they took too long to do what they were intended to do.

And I'd agree, while the last line is a direct quote from the original, it was still a terrible line.

All in all, a pretty good movie that I wouldn't be able to sit through again.

Zmev 01-04-2006 12:22 AM

I haven't seen Kong nor do I intend to.

I'd agree on the whole gorilla/Dino fight thing too, that has to be one of the most classic cinematic oppertunites presented to any director, to not attempt it would be a crime to his profession.

yeah, i guess i'm being a little harsh on the movie. there's a lot of fairly enjoyable things about it. it's just all the 5 star reviews completely bewildered me. even some of those reviewers admitted there were faults to be found with the movie, yet 90% of all the reviews i have read has given it full or high marks..
