I never would've made that link but you're right...

Britton 11-02-2005 03:38 PM

the album has incredible licks that are really easy to play.

I learnd sad but true on drums!

I know big deal right?

but the thing is I'm getting really fast and my hands can't take it at this time
so I'm taking a break from guitar. The car situation might not be so bad.
we might get a four runner or however you spell it. So I will be able to blast
blackened jump in the fire and Battery while driving (not that I have anywhere to go)

I got a student (two actually) and the first thing I asked him was "what
type of music do you want to play?" He said Metallica...I was like Holy cow
we are gonna get along great

Jev 11-02-2005 03:45 PM

You teach guitar? I couldn't handle teaching anyone guitar, I'd kill 'em cos of my intolerance.

Britton 11-02-2005 03:46 PM

Yep I'm a good teacher! at least I'm told that. I havn't had them for very long
so they are kinda my little test rats so we shall find out if I'm any good

fatbandit 11-02-2005 03:48 PM

Not just that, I don't feel I'm a good enough teacher...

I wouldn't want to be responsible for fecking up someone's learning.

And Happy, get your avatar back

which is the hardest metallica song to play on guitar(rhythm) ?

Father_Jack 11-02-2005 03:55 PM
which is the hardest metallica song to play on guitar(rhythm) ?
Not really too sure, Battery is hard to get down with the speed and all, and most AJFA songs are a little difficult. Master of Puppets is a little hard if you're gunna downpick it all.

Jev 11-02-2005 03:56 PM

Yeah what Father Jack said and the intro of Call of Ktulu is pretty difficult.

Hmm yea that's what I thought first...but I think I'm pretty good
so I hope it works out for them

Dyers eve is frickin hard to learn

That was a real pain in the arse to learn, and theres no distortion to cover you a$s if you mess it up :p

Britton 11-02-2005 03:58 PM

That's beautiful song

lol beginner? i forget what your drum history is. sad but true = cinch.

the intro of ktulu isnt that bad, i would agree with father jack in saying that mop is difficult because of downpicking. its really easy to play, but if you don't have good stamina you're going down.

Father_Jack 11-02-2005 04:01 PM

If you don't have much experiance with string skipping like me, (one of the reasons I wanted to learn it), then it can be quite a pain.

I bet you know what song I play really loud :D

I'm thinking I might teach guitar eventually at the shop where I take lessons now. My guitar teacher thinks I'm really good, but I need theory work and less boring work. The solos I write myself are really the same... well at least in the same penatonics and such... But I'm working on it.

You must have something a little different, I'm at 1007. And yes, it's a very active forum and those are the best albums :thumb: welcome to MX

Britton 11-02-2005 04:04 PM

I'm not a beginner but I'm not that good...you know?

So it wasn't like it was hard but it took awhile

Hmm Joe Hmm let me see....FTB?

You're better than my mate, still has trouble with 4/4 beats.

Britton 11-02-2005 04:07 PM

Naw I'm way past that. I'm not really sure how good I am
I don't play drums with lots f peolpe. I have a great drummer in my band
and I'd about I'm half as good as He IS...But that says alot

Joe 11-02-2005 04:14 PM

I'm good with 4/4 and anything else /4 but the 8s is where i get lost. It's ok though, it's not in music books. I think I could be a good guitar teacher...

And yes, definitely Fade to Black.

fatbandit 11-02-2005 04:16 PM

Dude, it would be cool if I could tell it was you as a ninja. Can't see your ninja Gi for your hands :(

record yourself and send it over

Britton 11-02-2005 04:17 PM

You don't have to know alot to teach a beginner. So I'm sure you can teach.

I'm pretty good with timimg's some solo type stuff I screw up (Lik FTB solo's)

That's not really a loud song for me...but never the less it's great

I might try some recording's next time I'm with my brother

Downpicking all of MOP is fine, but you'll need to alternate pick Battery.

metalmilitia101 11-02-2005 05:48 PM

yeah...i would be quite amazed to see someone downpick battery at the right tempo lol

Joe 11-02-2005 06:10 PM
which is the hardest metallica song to play on guitar(rhythm) ?
No doubt Battery.
yeah...i would be quite amazed to see someone downpick battery at the right tempo lol
Me too. I can downpick Master of Puppets at proper speed until the middle soft part and then I'm pretty tired but then I'm good after that for another minute or so then I'm done.

timmySmi 11-02-2005 06:27 PM

I've being a Bassist for 6 years and know every Metallica song on bass apart from Pulling Teeth.I still find Battery a challenge to play with my band. Not just the speed but the timings and the speed aswell.

speed on battery especially for bass makes it very hard to play well

Thrash em all 11-02-2005 07:31 PM

i think that RTL is one of the best albums

lightningmetal666 11-02-2005 07:36 PM
yeah...i would be quite amazed to see someone downpick battery at the right tempo lol
Or even just downpick triplets correctly.

I can do it but nowhere near that tempo.

Here's the real challenge:

Try to upstroke triplets at that tempo and feel very retarded.

metallicaman8 11-02-2005 07:58 PM

Hey, i'm new to this site but Metallica is by far my fav band, so i thought i'd try and get in on this chat room. Um...i used to play bass but i never really bothered to learn any metallica songs because i kinda sucked and was unable to play them. Anywho i play guitar now and can play 30 or 40 of there songs, its always been somewhat of a dream of mine to learn the solo to ride the lightning but i doubt that will ever happen although i can play the first like 10 secs of it. Another very challenging solo i think is the solo to master of puppets its no where near as hard as the RTL solo buts its still wuite difficult it took me like 2 days to learn. Any who i should shut up before i start to ramble but if wanna talk metallica especially about solos n' stuff message me

Rounder 11-02-2005 09:03 PM
ok thanks, i love my downpick and i can downpick whole master of puppets.

Id like to hear that. Ive been playing for 15+years and get too tired about 3/4 the way through.
You won't be downpicking Battery ever unless you got two right hands.

edit: i bet very few can actually play battery correctly up to tempo with alternate picking musch less downpicking

What's really hard to play is disposable heroes. I can barely get to the double time part before my hands start cramping up.
