Tales of Brave Ulysses owns so hard.
Tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers, and you want to take them with you to the heartland of the winter Some of the best phychedellic lyrics I have heard are in that song |
The ending is just a step lower than a drug overdose.

I am trying to expose my friends to good music.

That rarely works. |

It seems that unbelievable endings are Cream's forte, I mean look at White Room |
It seems that unbelievable endings are Cream's forte, I mean look at White Room
Indeed, I wish the ending to Tales of Brave Ulysses would last another minute or so. It's so orgasmic. |
That rarely works.
Yea, it's true. Most of my friends like classic rock, but no to the extent that I do. |
I am trying to expose my friends to good music.
Ha! I was telling my friend Molly about how great Led Zeppelin's Since I've Been Loving You is and she was like "OMGZ You have to listen to this Dispatch song!12211!1!!" And the other one, Rebecca is hopeless, I will mention Neil Young and she will be like "eeew, like, he has nasty sideburns" The rest are hardcore top 40 junkies  |
All my friends listen to Incubus, 311, Dispatch, and OAR. While this is better than a lot of things, and I do enjoy it every now and then, the fact that they think OAR is the best band in the world is very annoying.
|
Yea, it can be frustrating. I made my girlfriend a few cd's with some classic rock on it, and she likes it but she still has no knowledge of it. When we are driving around, I always put the classic rock station on, and I'll be like, "Do you know what song this is?". She always guesses wrong

Do they ever accuse you of being a hippie? I get that alot, like I'm someone's pet hippie |
Do they ever accuse you of being a hippie? I get that alot, like I'm someone's pet hippie
Oh hell yea. They see that I have long hair, I enjoy weed, and my favorite bands are Radiohead, Floyd, and Hendrix and they think I am some kind of hippie. |

My brother is the same way with OAR. It's fucking ridiculous. |
Do they ever accuse you of being a hippie? I get that alot, like I'm someone's pet hippie
My friends call me a hippy because I have long hiar and play guitar and bass and do wierd things and listen to older music. I feel so loved sometimes. |

 Do you play hacky sack? If any of my friends has a story about weed they always tell me, because I would know right? I am a hippie after all  long hair>short hair |

long hair>short hair
I play hacky sack sometimes  Just when I am killing time at school in between classes. I guess I am a hippie to a degree, except I shower. |

Just when I am killing time at school in between classes. I guess I am a hippie to a degree, except I shower.
I have been known to play hacky sack/play guitar/ listen to CR/ have long hair (which is not too special since I am supposed to being a girl and all)/play harmonica during classes but besides that I am prety much a bookworm, so I really have nothing in common with most of my friends except homework, so I am their pet hippie, you see. /life story |
Pardon my ignorance on modern music but, who is OAR?
And I usually turned on my friends to classic rock, as well as another friend introduces me to some bands that I didn't know of. Then there's this one, who was the drummer of my band, who's into Green Day. He now dresses up as if he's a punk rocker, and then he goes around saying that he's not. I remember that one of our friend's cousing was making fun of him, and calling him a poser and he said "I'm not punk." I looked at him and said "You sure try to dress like one." Silence. And the one who was the bassist has always been into reggea. It's cool, though, it's not senseless listening, some of the songs are pretty good. And then, the other guitarist was getting into metal, mainly Metallica. I really don't like Metallica, but it's better than Green Day. And that's why the band I was in didn't work out. And I'm a meat-eating, shower-loving hippie. I hate vegetarians food. Can't eat that stuff. |

/life story
Nothing wrong with any of those things. I'd much rather hang out with someone that is true to themselves, then running with the "popular kids" trying to fit in. |
Pardon my ignorance on modern music but, who is OAR?
A jam band (arguable) similar to DMB that all the frat boys and preppy highschoolers are in love with. |
Does OAR stand for something? I've started liking this new band called The Shins. They are more of an alt rock band, but they have some really strange songs...and they are great.
I love playing hacky sack...I bought a monstously large hacky sack in Spain. It gets tiring to play with after a while because it's so huge. |

Of A Revolution. |
Indeed, I wish the ending to Tales of Brave Ulysses would last another minute or so. It's so orgasmic.
... 123? There aren't enough numbers on the keyboard for my agreeing...
Tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers, and you want to take them with you to the heartland of the winter Some of the best phychedellic lyrics I have heard are in that song
What I love about the lyrics to that song is that they skirt that line so finely. On one hand you get deliciously psychedelic lines like that, on the other hand, you get the wonderfully poetic lines about the "sparkling waves are calling you to kiss their white laced lips," and all the other really catchy alliteration.
/life story
Don't worry dear, being a bookworm is fun! /English nerd We've got an AP english class in my school, and we're all such nuts. Our teacher is majorly cool, though. I was talking with him about Abbey Road. Just how does this make you a hippie? ;)
And I'm a meat-eating, shower-loving hippie. I hate vegetarians food. Can't eat that stuff.
It's difficult to do the vegetarian thing. I'm all right with people who want to try it, but I think it's a bit crazy myself. The problem is that so many people do the vegetarian thing for whatever reason and they end up having crappy diets and getting really bad nutrition. That's the most ironic thing, people who go vegetarian who are such picky eaters that they're little sticks. (Don't get me started on picky eaters ;).) |
hacky sacking is awesome.

I hang out with "cool" kids most of the time(who like I said earlier, idolize bands like OAR), so when I had long hair and wore band t-shirts I was always called a hippie. Or like that time when I tried to convince them that The Who was better than 311....
|
I do enjoy 311, but I take them for what they are, high energy, party music. I saw them live and had a blast, but I wouldn't say they are better then The Who.
|

Exactly. I never said I hated them, in fact I do enjoy listening to them sometimes. I even own two of their albums. But come on, The Who. The Who! |
I think it's just because we have grown up with classic rock, that we have the perspective to understand these things better then the average person does.
|
Def Leppard is one of my favorite classic rock bands
A drummer with one arm... who woulda thunk it? |
I usually hate the people at my school who play hacky sack...
All of my friend's musical taste differ from mine, but it doesn't make a difference. The Who > j00 edit:
I think it's just because we have grown up with classic rock, that we have the perspective to understand these things better then the average person does.
You sound like a classic rock fanboy right here, no offense. |
Def Leppard are classic rock? :/
It's so strange, on our local classic rock station, they have started playing Nirvana, RHCP, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, and other bands like that from the ealy 90's. |
Def Leppard sucks, hackey sack sucks, and I concur with ATM: classic rock stations have gotten REALLY liberal with the definition of "classic rock".
|
that's weird, I've always wondered how classic rock stations will develop over time.
|
I think it's just because we have grown up with classic rock, that we have the perspective to understand these things better then the average person does.
Good point, that is certainly true for me and The Who
You sound like a classic rock fanboy right here, no offense.
You don't have to be a classic rock fanboy to recognize that The Who>311, which was what ATM's response was referring to. |
You don't have to be a classic rock fanboy to recognize that The Who>311, which was what ATM's response was referring to.
It sounded like he was saying people who grew up with classic rock recognize better music than people who didn't. |
You sound like a classic rock fanboy right here, no offense.
Yea, I realized that after I wrote that. But I don't mean it in an elitist way at all, in fact people on MX know that I listen to all genres and have a very open mind about music. I just meant that since a lot of us here in this thread have grown up with classic rock, we have more knowledge of music then the average person. A lot of huge OAR fans might have never sat down and listened to DSOTM, etc. |
I wouldnt say that Classic Rock people have more knowledge then a Blues lover of a Jazz lover, or even a metal lover, but the fact is that most teens this day and age havent been expsed to true music. All they know and have ever known is bands like DMB, Mayer, etc. The reason why they may badmouth a genre you like is because all they know about that is the stereotypes.
|

This is also true. Also, a lot of OAR fans wouldn't be OAR fans if they heard other/much better jam bands. |
