How exactly does Dell stay in business? Their computers are worthless, unreliable pieces of scrap. I've spent nearly the last hour arguing with mine.
And the wireless modem has given me nothing but grief. It currently believes that I'm on a "Wireless Internet Connection 3" but my ocmputer doesn't recognize that as a valid connection and won't let me use the internet. Actually, once you get used to it though, its SO much better than Windows OS. |
4 words, Alex. Custom build for cheap.
My local store did it, I got the comp I wanted, the case I wanted, and it cost me similar to a Dell of the same power. |

It's really quite something, and you get so much great stuff with it. Seriously, PCs BLOW. They suffer from WAY too many bugging problems, which Macs have nothing for. EDIT: How can you hate OS X? I doubt it would be difficult to be much worse than Windows XP. This is by far the worst OS Microsoft has ever designed. It's like they didn't even bother to beta test it.

That's not a good thing? It's a lot simpler to use than XP...its good to have everything laid out in front of you. Plus, Macs don't crash that much...good feature to have. :thumb: |

Oooooor...you could aim slightly less power. 1.25 Ghz processor...40 GB hard drive, Combo drive (cd burner, for those of you who don't know), wireless access ready. All for $500...course, you still gotta buy the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, but that's no problem...you could get a $70 dollar monitor, and Apple sells the keyboard and mouse with the computer for like 50 bucks more. EDIT: Ouch, HeavyRiva  |
Chris, what the hell is that in your avatar? It makes me fearful of going to bed.
I just googled Slug and this came up. :) |

Feh, my family has been exclusively Apple-users since the early 1990s. We had an old black and white screen Powerbook, like a G0 or something. I understand about money, Steerpike. On the other hand, it must be weighed in that you also spend money to get current computers fixed. And Riva: oh well, it's not for everyone. But still, I like how intuitive some of the things are. EDIT: And no Mac I've ever owned has crashed or been subjected to a virus. |
Problem is, I need something high-powered. My ideal system would have a rather large hard drive for schoolwork and games, and a second (possibly larger) drive for the editing software. Do you realize how much disc space it requires to edit one full mini-DV tape?
The cards are currently stacked against me on this one. |

Plus, Apple makes really top-notch software...Garageband (though i can't run that on my shitbox), iTunes, iMovie, iChat, pretty much anything with an i in front of it. :p AAAND Apple invented iPods, one of the greatest inventions ever made. Remember who you're talking to. The truth is, my whole family is in rather dire financial straits at this point. A new computer for me simply isn't in the budget when we have to pay our heating and electric bills, car insurance, groceries, etc. The reality of the situation is that all I'm doing right now is shopping around for solutions for the future. If it were as cut-and-dried as "Just buy a Mac," I would be in the car right now on my way to the nearest computer store. |

I have a dell (well, my parents have a dell) and it runs pretty well.

Give it time.
One thing I forgot to mention was... uh, you're all aware that I have a hell of a temper, right? Well, what finally got me to give up my rage against the machine was when in a moment of frustration, I chose to unleash my pent-up frustration with physical force. And in a moment of monumentally poor judgment, I punched my desk. Problem was, my fist slipped. I took a huge chunk out of my outside knuckle which bled for five minutes and wouldn't stop burning and stinging until I smothered it in Neosporin. There's a feat I won't care to repeat in the near future. |
I have a Sony Vaio, I like it a lot.

Yea, I believe my computer will start to suck in a few weeks time.
