I love the first three songs on the new Gorgoroth. I can't remember the rest.

TimJim 04-21-2010 06:07 PM

Tyler 04-21-2010 06:12 PM

Bleekill 04-21-2010 06:12 PM

You might have this already but Blut Aus Nord -Memoria Vetusta II: Dialogue with the Stars

Aakon_Keetreh 04-21-2010 06:14 PM

Absolutely nothing like Alcest. There aren't even slight similarities.

Meatplow 04-21-2010 06:34 PM

clean vikings?

unheard of

Love that album.

Any other Neige project pretty much

Amesoeurs, Mortifera

Bleekill 04-21-2010 08:50 PM
Absolutely nothing like Alcest. There aren't even slight similarities.
They are both French and it's all "majestic post-blackmetally". I'm sure if you like Alcest you will like that BAN album.

lim 04-21-2010 08:53 PM

shut up faggot

Stormrider 04-21-2010 08:54 PM
I'm sure if you like Alcest you will like that BAN album.
Not at all, and I'm living proof of this :p
havent been able to get into that album yet and ive tried several times

i havent even heard ecailles de lune yet, though

Tyler 04-21-2010 08:58 PM
They are both French and it's all "majestic post-blackmetally". I'm sure if you like Alcest you will like that BAN album.
I'm sorry but no. There is absolutely no point of comparison for their music. At this point even calling Alcest black metal is a stretch and I'd hardly call that Blut Aus Nord album "post black metally". It's relatively straightforward, especially given their back catalogue.

Bleekill 04-21-2010 09:03 PM
shut up large bundle of sticks
Eat my sh1t.

I know its not goddamn shoegaze/black metal but it definitely has that "post-black metal" sound which is described as "shoegazey" by some.

lim 04-21-2010 09:06 PM

lol wtf is post black metal

RouteOne 04-21-2010 09:08 PM

bootgaze

Bleekill 04-21-2010 09:08 PM

Basically atmospheric black metal. Bands that have post-rock/shoegaze influence.

TimJim 04-21-2010 09:10 PM

like krallice and a bunch of the "faggy" USBM bands eh?

Bleekill 04-21-2010 09:11 PM

Basically. Fen, Drudkh, Altar of Plagues are some non USBM ones I listen to also. I don't consider it "faggy" lol.

TimJim 04-21-2010 09:13 PM

tbh i eat that **** up. so yeah gimme recs for bands like that and some DSBM too while we're on this topicccc

RouteOne 04-21-2010 09:15 PM

Leave the hall

Tyler 04-21-2010 09:24 PM
Basically atmospheric black metal. Bands that have post-rock/shoegaze influence.
The two are unrelated. Atmospheric black metal is not post-black metal. Secondly, the new Blut Aus Nord doesn't have a shoegaze influence. Do you even listen to what you're posting about?

TimJim 04-21-2010 09:26 PM

most of his recs are p good man so id be willing to guess that he does

maybe his view of a word that describes a type of music is different than what is the established norm?

Tyler 04-21-2010 09:27 PM
maybe his view of a word that describes a type of music is different than what is the established norm?
aka: wrong?

post black metal is **** like Arcturus. Stuff with black metal roots or influences that sit outside of the genre. Alcest would be post-black metal, I guess, but Blut Aus Nord, Drudkh, bands like that are just black metal.

Jaundice 04-21-2010 09:27 PM

It doesn't have to have a shoegaze influence to be shoegazey.

It's one of those tags you can arbitrarily put on anything these days

You know like "psychedelic" or "industrial"

Bleekill 04-21-2010 09:30 PM

Yeah, I do listen to it. To be considered post-black metal doesn't automatically mean it sounds like shoegaze. It can be avant-garde, folky, electronic influenced, whatever. So long as it is atmospheric and mixes other influences, it can be considered post-black metal.

edit: yeah they kinda said it before me.

TimJim 04-21-2010 09:32 PM

okay Mortifera's shrieks are amazing ^____^

rasputin 04-21-2010 09:32 PM
post black metal is **** like Arcturus
lol

Tyler 04-21-2010 09:32 PM

I never said something had to be "shoegazey" to be post black metal.

The only thing I'm arguing here is that the new Blut Aus Nord is absolutely nothing like the new Alcest and there's absolutely no point of comparison between the two. They're French and that's where it stops. I think "post black metal" is a ridiculous label (and I don't think Alcest are black metal in the first place) so I don't really care enough to argue the semantics here.
post black metal is **** like Arcturus
At least it used to be. That's the thing with made up subgenres, they tend to change over the years because, well, they're made up. Bad example but you get what I'm saying. "Post black metal" is **** that isn't really black metal.

Jaundice 04-21-2010 09:34 PM

Most post-genres are an unnecessary distinction from the original genre.

Tyler 04-21-2010 09:35 PM

It's a necessary distinction because most bands who fit the bill aren't actually black metal, it's just completely random and ambiguous as far as classification goes outside of the initial distinction.

Txus 04-21-2010 09:36 PM
can i get some recs for BM like Alcest?
Heretoir, Lantlos, Etheral Beauty, Thränenkind.

and yeah, Blut Aus Nord don't sound like Alcest at all. But still, if you don't have that album check them out.

Jaundice 04-21-2010 09:38 PM
It's a necessary distinction because most bands who fit the bill aren't actually black metal, it's just completely random and ambiguous as far as classification goes outside of the initial distinction.
I could reason with black metal getting some kind of "post" offshoot

because i don't think there's any subgenre of metal that can stray anywhere near as far from whats typically considered metal than black metal.

RetiredAt21 04-22-2010 07:00 AM

Holy ****, who cares.

Tyler 04-22-2010 01:29 PM

idk you did enough to bump it and swear about it

i mean sorry we can go back to you asking if anyone has heard generic black metal band every couple of hours

Stormrider 04-22-2010 02:53 PM

i love how people whine that the black metal thread gets redundant, but then as soon as there's a 'worthwhile' argument (or just something different), they whine some more

Aakon_Keetreh 04-22-2010 03:05 PM

welcome to the black metal thread

Txus 04-22-2010 04:06 PM
i love how people whine that the black metal thread gets redundant, but then as soon as there's a 'worthwhile' argument (or just something different), they whine some more
that's just Justin.

Stormrider 04-22-2010 05:14 PM

im pretty sure you say "who cares" more than justin lol

Txus 04-22-2010 05:49 PM

I always try to contribute tbh

You've changed, Jammie bro.
