nice line up
i havent heard of rubins stuff who has he composed?
He's produced things for several bands/artists. Most notably Slayer, System of a Down, Public Enemy and The Beastie Boys. |
My friend told me today that he heard that Rick Rubin might produce Metallica's new album and that 'Tallica is going to dump Bob Rock. I really hope this is true, does anyone know about this, and hopefully if it's true it isn't old news.
That's probably 99.99% false. Metallica loves Bob Rock, they really don't care if other people hate him or what. They pretty much do what they wanna do and how they want to. Plus they've been friends for like 15 years, I dont think they would just dump him. lol I know if I had a real band, real as in signed, I wouldn't mind if Bob Rock was our producer. |
I'm new to this thread, actually I usually only post in the guitar forum. Getting pretty sick of all the competitive immature crap and bashing that goes on in there...so here's my line up.
ajfa mop rtl/ba/kea these 3 are tied load s&m reload garage inc sa |
He's produced things for several bands/artists. Most notably Slayer, System of a Down, Public Enemy and The Beastie Boys.
thanx for the info i heared of those bands but diddent know he did there stuff:confused: |
well bob rock is a sell out IMO since he change drastically what metallica was in the beginning just compare pre bob rock and post bob rock albums. im not saying metallica sucks after black album because i do like some songs but they arent what they were dont forgett SA that is truly annoying IMO.

agreed but what if that was metallica's decision |
but what if that was metallica's decision
thats true they certainly have agreed to maintain bob rock, look at how proud they are from their SA album, but they should consider taken advice from their fans because honestly i think that most of the metallica fans dislike their las album. |

you mean st. anger well if it was there decision they made heaps out of it |
Yea like 13 million...
Metallica doesn't care what you think dude okay? they like bob rock but they don't really care what he thinks either. Metallica got tired of making MOP's and AJFA's so they moved on as artist and as men then they got tired of doing Black albums Load Reloads ETC so they moved on from there. Music is not about fans music is about art and music you can't say van goh was a sellout because he stopped making starry nights and self portraits. if anyone sells out it's the fans |
hear hear
|
Yea like 13 million...
Metallica doesn't care what you think dude okay?if anyone sells out it's the fans
You're right with the point that don't care what he thinks but uhh... How can fans sell out? |
well but what is music for them if no one looks upon them they have turned into selling machines instead of artfull musicians IMO and they still are my favourite band
|
You're right with the point that don't care what he thinks but uhh...
How can fans sell out?
Fans sell out by saying "Oh I don't like Metallica anymore they're doing some different stuff" you know what I'm talking about? |
Why can't people just like what they like...
|
Why can't people just like what they like...
dude people do like what they like metallica like changing all the time which i like to cause i want to see if good at other kinds of music and metallica rule at thrash, rock, hard rock, and heavy metal or nu metal if its the SA album |
You've not understood what i mean't. People aren't selling out if they don't like Metallica's new direction... they simply don't like it.
|

sorry well they should like it:) |
Fans sell out by saying "Oh I don't like Metallica anymore they're doing
some different stuff" you know what I'm talking about?
Fans don't sell out. Since when was there money to be made by the fans? |
Fans sell out by saying "Oh I don't like Metallica anymore they're doing
the fan doesent sell out its the band that does
(but i dont recon metallica sold out)
Metallica never sold out. They simply changed. Cliff was the guy that didn't want videos (along with james) and Lars did. It was 2-1 and then since Lars did they did them. That doesn't mean they sold out. The Black Album doesn't mean they sold out either. Until Bob Rock they had several producers and this was one they liked. Just because he put together a good cd with them that was popular doesn't at all mean they sold out.
Fans sell out by saying "Oh I don't like Metallica anymore they're doing some different stuff" you know what I'm talking about?
I know what you mean, but it could just simply be the case where people don't like the music. Fans "sell out (even though they really can't)" if they don't like it in general simply because it's different. |
sorry
well they should like it:)
If we all liked the same stuff it'd make a boring world. |

I always hear people bitching about the 'new' Metallica. They always complain about there new albums being crap and their old ones being better. What i dont understand is why do they complain? why dont they just listen to the old stuff and not the new stuff? If you dont like thier new stuff...
DONT LISTEN TO IT. |

DONT LISTEN TO IT.
They probably don't listen to it, but that doesn't stop them from being dissapointed at what the band has become. |
Wouldn't metallica sellout if they say made an album right now JUST so they can please fans and no other reason. Afterall, they should do whatever they want to, not what someone wants them to do.

Well said. |

Yeah but they made a legacy of metal that inspired hundreds of thousands if not millions of people. This was a whole genre of music called thrash. They started it and now they are turning their back on it. I am one of those fans that are deeply disapointed by this. They turned their back on the type of music that they are good at because they want to "explore into new areas". Nu - metal was just a fad and most of the guitarists were fans that were inspired by metallica. Metallica was trying to do new metal. Doesn't this seem a little @$$ backwards to you? A band trying to imitate ppl that they inspired. I have been such a huge fan of metallica over the years but am just a little disappointed with their current music. Not every band is immune to the dreaded bad album and Metallica is no exception. Doesn't mean I hate them though. They just tried something new and it didn't work. Perhaps on the next album they'll revisit their roots and try to branch in another direction. |
St. Anger really wasn't Nu-metal. The riffs may sound similar, but compare St. Anger to Korn or any other Nu-metal band and you'll see they are nothing alike.
I agree that an album to appease fans would be a sell-out. I hope they don't make a Master of Puppets Pt.2, even though I love that album. I want to see them move forward, not back. We have to remember though that bands can move forward by embracing their older sounds, but repeating an album just to quiet fans is about the worst thing they can do. |

James is my hero and to hear him screaming "tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tock, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tock" is annoying to the point that words cannot describe, when I've always regarded him as an excellent lyricist. |
It'd be cool if it was more thrashier but I think it'll sound more like Load.

I guess you and me both suffer from lowered expectations. :thumb: |

Definately. But I hope they do come up with something good. Especially with Rob, maybe he can help them out. |
Yea I hope rob will add cool basslines and a solo here and there. But he probably wont. He'll just follow guitar most the time probably. But I mean if they really want to create another bad *** thrash album, Im sure they wouldn't have problems doing it. They probably just don't want to.
And yea, saint anger was far from nu-metal. But then again, it was far from early metallica too. Oh well.. |

Mmm, am I the only person who hears thrashier guitar work in St. Anger?? Lars said it was back to their roots, and god damn it was, we haven't seen the same speed for almost ~17 years. (Imagine if it was in Standard tuning, with a normal drum sound, I think it could honestly be mistaken for some of their early work!) Although, the drums sounded horrible, Lars must still be doing hardcore drugs. |
Although, the drums sounded horrible, Lars must still be doing hardcore drugs.
 I agree St. anger's riffs were very thrashy and are better than most we've heard from black album era. But they just did so many different things on st. anger it really didn't sound like any other band, not even metallica. |
Hey Chu you got the Punk album right? It's just I got an e-mail saying it was never delivered. weird...
|
I definately got it :D
It's pretty good, I've given it a few listens, The Am I Evil (Which isn't a Metallica song? :x), cover, I think a female singer? Is very good :D I have never heard the original I Disappear, so yeah, can't compare it but it is good. The Enter Sandman cover isn't bad, but the Seek & Destroy cover totally makes the album worth it imo. |
The I Disappear cover isn't far off the original.
|
The only bad thing about the majority of the songs is the vocalist(s).
I don't usually care how a vocalist sounds, but there really are some terrible vocalists there. |
