It reallly was an amazing show, probably one of the top 3 shows I've seen. Against Me! played all the favorites and then Alk3 came on and played for 1.5-2 hours. It was nuts.

...

once again, i dont know if this has been asked, because im not about to go through 112 pages of crap, but does anybody know who Evelyn is/was? I mean, in the RAR cd it has pictures of her and Jason, and she's obviously in the song "Pints of Guiness Make You Strong". and you can assume she's dead. but was she just a friend of Tom's? family? lover?

i was wondering the exact same thing last night.

sketchyjoe 08-30-2006 06:25 AM

I'm fairly sure she's his grandmother.

Henrik 08-30-2006 10:01 AM

Yeah, I think so too.

Johnny Quest. 08-31-2006 05:37 AM

Anyone else think ...Clarity isn't as bad as everyone thinks, OK, it's not RAR, but's just about on a par with ATEC. It's really grown on me as of late.

Angry Balled Fists! 08-31-2006 07:08 AM

nah because ATEC is their best album. searching for a former clarity isnt a bad album, ive always liked it.

sketchyjoe 08-31-2006 07:30 AM

Joy is probably the only song on SFAFC that would fit on their other albums.

Deconstruction 08-31-2006 03:56 PM

I thought that SFAFC was good, just not good enough to be ATEC or RAR.

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 08-31-2006 04:09 PM
Joy is probably the only song on SFAFC that would fit on their other albums.
I was thinking that the other day too. It really fits in better than most songs on that album.

Which I continue to find nothing special. Definetly not on par with ATEC or RAR. Especially not RAR, but not ATEC either.

I've always been in the minority of those who like SFAFC as much as any of their other stuff. Holy **** is my favorite AM! song.

AIRIC 08-31-2006 08:36 PM

Holy **** blows.

Liebensaft 08-31-2006 10:05 PM

Tensions are running high aboard the S.S. MX.

I'm going to have to listen to SFAFC again very soon. The only songs on it I'm real familiar with are the ones they always play at shows/on tv.

It has nowhere near the intensity of emotion, the lyrical poignancy and catchiness of anything on Crime, Acoustic, ATEC or RAR. If that is your favourite AM! song, you have no soul. You like content, not music.

That's a nice opinion.

The lyrics aren't mind-blowingly amazing, sure, whatever. But I like them. They are catchy to me. I find myself singing them all the time. I like playing it on guitar, I like listening to it, and that's all that really matters.

And if you can only appreciate a song for it's "intensitiy in emotion" or "poignancy", the maybe you are the one who doesn't like music.

Flagjacket 09-01-2006 11:57 AM

Holy **** is like a country song and Nick likes those dudes with the acoustics.

holy_roller99 09-01-2006 12:01 PM

it is not as great as the other songs on SFAFC. the title song is pretty good and somethin you can just sit and play on your acoustic.

sketchyjoe 09-01-2006 01:11 PM

You're talking out of your arse. A song is okay if it's catchy. For a song to be special it has to have something more than that. Holy Shit doesn't, to me at least, maybe it speaks to you, but you've just admitted you don't think the lyrics are that great. I listen to plenty of music for the rhythm or the hooks, but they're not as good as the music I listen to because it has a passion that I can identify with.
Holy **** is like a country song and Nick likes those dudes with the acoustics.
And I don't like country at all.

manton 09-01-2006 01:32 PM

Opinions are a-holes. Holy **** rules, as does the entire Clarity album.

sketchyjoe 09-01-2006 01:38 PM
Opinions are a-holes. Holy **** rules, as does the entire Clarity album.
Nick's get reamed?
Cheap shot but I couldn't resist.

Music means more to me than just something I like to play along to on my bass, or to just nod my head to. I'm sorry, but that's the way I am.

I just don't see how anyone could compare SFAFC to what came before it, unless you can relate to songs about being part of a scene or something where people are having fun and then becoming more and more aloof until the people who helped get you where you are don't like you anymore.

Oh, right. I just got it.

And of all the things we'd ask, out of all the ways we'd like for it to be,
they're just drunken conversations,
song lyrics sung at the top of our lungs so desperately like:
"I believe in a power that is of and by the people
I believe in an art that cannot be compromised.
I believe that all will endure, and all will overcome.
And I will sing it until I no longer remember the reason."

What was the reason?

Yeah, those lyrics can only be specific to what you're saying, and suck.

I like ATEC way better than SFAFC, but seriously, why are you trying to convince Nick that his favorite Against Me! song isn't that good or worthy of being passionate enough? Who cares? People listen to music for different reasons.

Ding ding ding winnah winnah!

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 09-01-2006 09:39 PM

Why doesn't anyone call Crime, Crime as forgiven by? Or Reinventing Axl Rose, Is Reinventing Axl Rose?

Those are little letters on the front of albums, gone to waste.

Brain Toad 09-01-2006 09:40 PM

I've seen Crime as Crime as Forgiven By, I think that's how I have it labeled on my mp3s.

Never seen RAR with the I.

I think it's because of the awkward use of Against Me! in saying it. i.e. "Have your heard Against Me!'s Crime as Forgiven By Against Me!? or Against Me!'s Against Me! is Reinventing Axl Rose?

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 09-01-2006 09:47 PM

Probably. And yeah, I have Crime as Crime as Forgiven by in my ipod, but I don't have the Is on RAR.

Oh well. Their waste of ink I suppose.

Flagjacket 09-01-2006 11:53 PM

Is as forgiven by

I'm just stating my opinion. I know I won't change anyone's mind.

Twin Human Highway Flares 09-04-2006 10:47 PM

I watched "We're Never Going Home" today and I'm wondering about the part where that Welsh guy is talking about Axl doing voodoo on little Against Me! puppets after hearing about RAR. Did that actually happen? Or is it speculation that can't be proven? If it did happen, it's damn funny.

AIRIC 09-04-2006 10:49 PM

Hahaha that part is funny I've wondered if that's true too.

What's that DVD like? Is it worth buying?
