Question for Iai (or anyone else who is an Afghan Whigs fan): What's a good Whigs album to get after Gentlemen?

Zmev 12-08-2004 04:08 AM

It seems I've been listening to I know Its Over by the Smiths repeatetly over the past couple (4) days.

I also try to sing it, Eh, I try at least = /

I like Congregation, although that's the only one I've heard properly.

Depends what you're after.

1965 is basically a soul album. I wouldn't really recommend it; not till you've heard the rest and liked them.

Black Love has more soul influences than Gentlemen, and moves away from grunge somewhat. There's a couple of pretty average tracks, but three tracks (Blame Etc., My Enemy, Faded) are better than most of Gentlemen. I'd say this one.

Congregation, though, is a pure Sub-Pop album. Really grungy, and really punky in places, with a few tracks that show what they'd go on to do on Gentlemen. I like it slightly less than Black Love, but Tangy prefers this to Gentlemen. And it converted Ashtray. :p

My Soulseek is Iai, and I'm sharing both Black Love and Congregation. Feel free to download a couple tracks from both and see for yourself. Or if you were planning to download rather than buy, have them from me. :)

I think I'm gonna buy Damage or Plastic Fang this weekend..

biografiend 12-08-2004 09:34 PM

Sigur Ros' Von just got released in the states not too long ago, and i just got it today. its a pretty good album, but not as good as ( ).

Tangy zizzle 12-08-2004 11:24 PM

Congregation is the sure bet to buy after Gentleman.

As Iai said, I prfer it to Gentleman - but they're both top albums. The Afghan Whis are so underrated.

Yeah, I'm planning on getting Damage pretty soon too.

Tangy zizzle 12-08-2004 11:29 PM

Hah, You guys are so slow.

Little Man being Erased 12-08-2004 11:34 PM

If I could buy every album that I want in one go I would. Unfortunately, I'm quite poor and I can't buy heaps of albums.

Tangy zizzle 12-08-2004 11:54 PM

I'm also relatviely poor... but JSBX come first in my life.

Little Man being Erased 12-09-2004 06:06 AM

Yeah... I won't be poor for much longer. I can't wait.

Happymeal 12-09-2004 06:09 AM

Relatively poor and you buy 3-5 albums a week??

edit: to Tangy

Tomahawk 12-09-2004 07:11 AM

I'm the same: relatively poor, yet I usually buy a couple of albums per week.

Ya see, there's a correlation between those 2 things...

milkandlaxatives 12-09-2004 10:46 AM

i don't even come close to being relatively poor. i'm just plain poor. which is why i cheat and dowload albums i check out from the library. shame on me.

yo la tengo is my new favorite band, i've listened to my little corner of the world over and over and over for the past 3 days

asymm 12-09-2004 10:56 AM

Lately...

Low - "Christmas EP"
and
Augie March - "Strange Bird"

Strange Bird has been amazing... very interesting and varied music. A fantastic album that should've been brought to the US when it was first released in 2002...

The Ashtray Girl 12-09-2004 11:02 AM
The Afghan Whigs are so underrated.
And coming from a ringleader of the Ween Posse, that's saying something.

I'm really enjoying the Ordinary Boys at the moment, plus a load of cheesy Christmas songs, including Wham!.

moderaterock222 12-09-2004 11:34 AM

I'm getting into trance at the moment. It's strange, but it seems to really appeal to me. I just bought 'Trance nation' and 'trance classics 2004'. So that's like 4 cd's worth of music. Weird.

Plainlazy 12-09-2004 12:24 PM

Has anyone heard the first Howards Alias album, I think it's called 'The Chameleon Script'. One of my friends was tellin me about it the other day, and iv heard two songs which were pretty good but i cant find it to buy anywhere. May have to resort to making a copy of a copy of a copy of it.

Luxor 12-09-2004 02:26 PM

"Pedro The Lion" is my new favourite band.
