Gibbons came after Hendrix.

Hendrix's main blues influence was Buddy Guy, but apparently Hendrix was obsessed with Dylan.

Buddy Guy is (one of) my hero(s).

ATM 04-13-2005 04:33 PM

Same here, after watching Festival Express. He ROCKED that place.

BludgeonySteve 04-13-2005 04:33 PM

Some of Jimi's lyrics were influenced by Bob Dylan. Obviously not songs like Foxy Lady and Purple Haze though.

Chuck Berry was a big guitar influence for him.

Walrus Gumboot 04-13-2005 04:35 PM

3. Paul McCartney and John Lennon whote "I Wanna Be Your Man" which was the Rolling Stones' first hit

EDIT: Hey, Livewired's back :D
Gibbons came after Hendrix.
Does that matter? No!

Jimi Hendrix strongly endorsed Billy Gibbons when he first came along, and Hendrix even stated that he was one of his biggest guitar influences.

Well, actually it does matter. It would make more sense for his biggest influence to come when he was beginning to play guitar/make music seriously, forming a band and cutting an album. He was already majorly influenced by the time Billy Gibbons came along.

It does matter slightly, but appartently, his major influence came after he had even made it.

Illmatic 04-13-2005 06:54 PM

Billy Gibbons? The guy from ZZ Top? How would he infulence Hendrix?

MalcolmYoungRock 04-13-2005 07:01 PM

Sorry, this is off topic but do you know who's guitar tone I am completely JEALOUS of?

Eric Clapton.

I was listening to 24 nights and Sunshine of your Love is superb.

The guitar tone is amazing.

How should I know? All I know is that Hendrix stated that he was a major influence.

I know this is cliche, but the tone in the solo to Bohemian Rhapsody is AWESOME.

I concur. Bo Rhap might be my favorite song of all time

magicbus 04-13-2005 07:22 PM

Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton have probably my favorite tones. And you can't deny Gilmour's on Echoes and SOYCD. That's amazing right there.

And I forgot SRV's. Awesome.

lunch998 04-13-2005 07:23 PM

Gilmour's tone > God's tone.

Walrus Gumboot 04-13-2005 07:25 PM
Gilmour's tone > God's tone.
Well put

I can always distiguish his tone from anyone elses, even if I had never heard the song before, it's so distinct

MalcolmYoungRock 04-13-2005 07:26 PM
Gilmour's tone > God's tone.
Gilmours tone on Comfortably Numb on David Gilmour Live >>>>>>>>>>>>> reg comfortably numb

Totally, man. He makes everything sound so...smooth and flawless. Hendrix, in my opinion, was a little sloppy, but Clapton has awesome tone.

JonG 04-13-2005 08:08 PM

My favorite CR tones are Santana, Slowhand, SRV(not so classic), and Hendrix.

Santana's got that poppy Telecaster like Les Paul :X

SRV no doubt, obvious..

Against Miik! 04-13-2005 08:35 PM

I'd say Dickey Betts, Alex Lifeson, Hendrix, and Santana

Leper 04-13-2005 08:37 PM

What artist was it that at one time said "Eric Clapton is a lousy guitarist"?? I heard that a while ago on the radio but i can't remember who said it. I found it pretty funny.

Anybody who thinks Clapton is a lousy guitar player has no soul. He is just one of these guitar players like Gilmour or Hendrix where you can feel the emotion they put into their songs as you listen to them, and you can tell that you are not listening to them playing, but you are listening to their soul and true feelings.

well, i think it was meant as a joke, and even if it wasn't, i still find it pretty funny.

did any of you guys read rolling stones' new immortals issue? little stevie from the e street band writes about him. he talks about how every lead guitarist out there owes a debt of gratitude to clapton because he set up the blueprint.

jeff beck has my favorite tone.

pigonthewing82 04-13-2005 09:03 PM

Just to get the opinion of some people outside of the Pink Floyd thread, what do you guys think of Syd Barrett's solo career? I love it, I own all of it, and I can't think of a single song I don't like. It always seems to put me in a good mood too.

Leper 04-13-2005 09:04 PM

i don't read rolling stone, too much ashley simpson, britney spears blah blah crap.

PinkFreud 04-13-2005 09:06 PM
i'm a little embarrassed to confess that i actually didn't know Syd Barrett had a solo career. :upset:
He put out two cds one called Barrett, and the other The Madcap Laughs. Now don't expect to hear Piper at the Gates of Dawn stuff, his song Pink Floyd song Jugband Blues is more close to his solo career. Also rare and alternet recordings were relased on the cd titled Opel, and he just came out with a greatest hits with two unrealased tracks Bob Dylan Blues and Two of a Kind. All his songs are really catchy.
