more forums :(
hmm maybe another time, im lacking in effort to do anything tonight

had a random thought earlier, if alexi was to shave off all his hair, or get it cut short, the band would become genius
no more cliche long hair cob
yeah....but I like Alexi's hair! :) :) :)

MRDuCran 09-09-2006 03:57 PM
he obviously uses straightens it
I thought that at first but then again, it's ALWAYS been straight, ever since the pics from SW. Every gig pic, every backstage pic, every drunk pic etc it's straight. It's a Finnish thing or something, look at Janne and Petri from teh Norther.

holly ****

i suck on guitar... i planned to record some things this weekend but last week i hardly played more than 30min each day... my wrist hurts a littel bit once again and i play sooo sloppy... i even can't play inferno as good as i could play it 2weeks ago :upset:

MRDuCran 09-09-2006 04:16 PM

I know how you feel, I can't play Paul Gilbert solos and make them sound like he can. :upset:

repcak 09-09-2006 04:21 PM

yeah... but learning trapped in a corner is a lot of fun... its such a great intro :p

repcak 09-09-2006 04:28 PM

@Mitch: do you know fingerings?

troy stetina and alexi and most of guitarists use this one
f.e.: a scale
5-7-9
the fingering would be: index - middle - pinky

but Jani Liimatainen is using other fingerings while playing... it has something to do with pentatonic, so it looks ridiculous when Jani is playing.... and as far as i know there exist only 2 types of fingerings for guitar. do you know what i'm talking about, or do you know whats behind those fingerings?

edit: something i forgot and wanted to tell you some days ago, while we were talking about Jani Liimatainen. you told that you don't like his style etc. but check out the tabs to 'wolf and raven' -> the intro is amazing and can be used as a good lick/picking lesson!
you may like it....

It's personal preferance and how comfortable you find each one. I use index, middle, pinky too but people like Paul Gilbert (huge hands) uses index, ring, pinky. He finds that more comfortable, he's not doing it just to look cool.

There aren't only 2 fingerings, there's a whole bunch and it depends on what you're playing. Don't go and copy other people if it's uncomfortable for you.

Yeah I stumbled across this the other night, looks pretty challenging, especially for me since I can't do descending 4's. I doubt I'll work on it since I have enough on my plate at the moment.
Eh, Death aren't my thing. Are you going to be recording it for the riff game??
yes; tbh most death songs aren't that good, but some are really fantastic and "trapped in a corner" is one of their best few songs!!

i remember when i learnt the intro of bed of razors with my index, ring, pinky... now everytime i play the melody i play it with i,r,p though meanwhile i started to use i,m,p ... the stretch from the index to the m-finger is a little big when stretching it over two frets but in the long run its better to play it that way instead of the r-finger.

but what i've seen is that jani liimatainen is stretching the index and the middle finger over 2-3frets!! it looks so impossible...

MRDuCran 09-09-2006 05:18 PM

I ususally use index, ring and pinky for

E- 15-17-19... or something because it's easier, but

E-3-5-7 I'll use index, middle and pinky. I can reach the PG way but I find MIP easier.

Btw, I'm practising that Sonata Arctica intro now, 90bpm so far.

Crickets On A Plane 09-09-2006 05:21 PM

I use whatever feels best. ^)^ Sometimes Index, Ring middle or sometimes Index, ring pinky or maybe index middle pinky!

repcak 09-09-2006 05:21 PM

when the frets are smaller i use the same fingerings :)

PG? MIP?

^^ great ... i just learnt the interlude for the 12th position :p

edit:
Btw, I'm practising that Sonata Arctica intro now, 90bpm so far.
100bpm :p ... and reaching 110bpm

What song? im currently working on Dont Say A Word on keys but Henrik is one hell of a keyboardist. and im working on the harpsichord solo and Intro to Wolf & Raven which isint too too hard on keys but looks crazy on guitar.

MRDuCran 09-09-2006 05:28 PM
What song? im currently working on Dont Say A Word ok keys but Henrik is one hell of a keyboardist.
Wolf and Raven.

repcak 09-09-2006 05:29 PM

we were talking about fingerings in general... not a specific song.

edit... ah, ok.

Shattered_Future 09-09-2006 05:35 PM

I'd learn that, but I'd end up breaking my hand if I tried. :upset:

repcak 09-09-2006 05:36 PM
I'd learn that, but I'd end up breaking my hand if I tried. :upset:
why that? its not that hard... its only fast...

Shattered_Future 09-09-2006 05:38 PM

I can't do stuff where it does 3 notes, then goes to the string above...then back again. Especially that fast.

repcak 09-09-2006 05:46 PM

ah ok... i don't have this problem cause in the last few months i practised some good picking exercises, which really helped me + i learnt inferno and this helped a lot too!

what i have problems with are not 3 notes in a lick but 3 nots each string ascending or descending... i can't do this properly :(

MRDuCran 09-09-2006 05:47 PM

Me neither. :upset:

Ok im confused what happen? I missed somthing.

repcak 09-09-2006 05:58 PM

make those exercises_
1)
e12-15-12--12---------repeat
b-----------15--15-12-15

2)
e15-14-12---12-------------repeat
b------------15---15-13-12

hardest one 3) (in double-triplets: you play 6notes each beat!)
e15-14-12-14-12---12-----------12-14-15-14-12---------------------------12-14
b--------------------15---15-13-15--------------------15-13-12---12-13-15
g----------------------------------------------------------------------14
repeat

those 3 exercises are from troy stetina and both helped me a lot in picking!! the last one is really hard and tricky but worth it!

Yeah im lost, he said he was leaving he's been banned I don't know how many times, so I say screw it.

MRDuCran 09-09-2006 06:12 PM

He's had about 4 accounts since he said he was leaving.

But enough talk about him otherwise this thread will be useless.
