VomitStainedCretin 09-29-2008 08:21 PM
so guys, to occupy my spare time that I have an abundance of I am going to write a 4-5 song death metal demo/ep with Incantation, Autopsy, Immolation and Gorguts being the main influences

gonna try to have it written completely by December and I plan to record it with my friend's gear over winter break.
Sounds pretty cool; so old-school sound with lots of dissonance and doomy bits, maybe a 7-8 minute closer, is that the sort of gist you're thinking?

Tyler 09-29-2008 08:23 PM

VomitStainedCretin, you forgot guitar punching. Can't be Gorgut influenced without violence against instruments.

masscows 09-29-2008 08:24 PM

7-8 minutes might be a little overambitious since it's going to be the first material I've ever written. Maybe each song will be between 2 1/2-5 minutes.

I have about 10 riffs right now, I'm working on my vocal delivery and thinking about how to make drums mesh with the riffs (by listening to lots of Incantation...)

and the Gorguts influence is going to mostly be in odd chording and arpeggios like on From Wisdom to Hate, I'm not even going to bother trying to emulate Obscura

masada 09-29-2008 08:28 PM

immolation are known for meshing things!

Deth 09-29-2008 08:28 PM

Look forward to hearing it, your taste in death metal is very similar to mine.

SnackaryBinx 09-29-2008 08:29 PM

I'm about to check out Arghoslent- Hornets of the Pogrom. From all the praise I'm hearing I'm amped to hear it.

Tyler 09-29-2008 08:29 PM

Album rulez.

SnackaryBinx 09-30-2008 05:45 AM

it does, in fact, rulez.

rasputin 09-30-2008 05:58 AM

Check out their earlier album Incorrigible Bigotry, it's fantastic too.

masscows 09-30-2008 08:14 AM
better not ****ing fail
if the badassery of the riffs I have written now is any indicator it will be a wild success

not sure if I'm gonna use programmed drums or a real drummer yet though; I only know one drummer who can actually play and I don't think he knows much about death metal drumming

pate 09-30-2008 08:32 AM

Time to teach him.

masscows 09-30-2008 10:14 AM

yeah, programmed drums are lame :x

Squirrel 09-30-2008 10:15 AM

Just got the new Misery Index :)
yeah, programmed drums are lame :x
Definitely, you could even get someone you know online if that's a doable solution, because you don't wanna suffer from BRA syndrome.

masscows 09-30-2008 10:36 AM

I think i'll program the drums and give the tracks/tabs to someone so they can learn the parts quick, then on the release version have actual drum playing

interviewer02 09-30-2008 11:43 AM

what do you play Masscows?

Iluvatar 09-30-2008 11:43 AM

he plays the brutal flute

Dimmu Burger 09-30-2008 11:44 AM
Just got the new Misery Index :)
How is it? I haven't found a version that wasn't corrupted etc.

masscows 09-30-2008 11:45 AM
what do you play Masscows?
guitar and bass

not particularly skilled at either

beans 09-30-2008 02:01 PM

rep for honesty lol

masada 09-30-2008 02:04 PM

death metal drumming that isnt a bunch of homo blasting and **** isnt v hard

Nostalgia 09-30-2008 02:30 PM

Programmed drumming in death / black metal can't amount to anything positive. The only band I've seen in said genres to make it work is Oubliette and that's because they're so buried they just keep a simple melody without actually breaking through (if that makes any sense).

masscows 09-30-2008 03:01 PM
death metal drumming that isnt a bunch of homo blasting and **** isnt v hard
yeah I know, I could probably do alot of the parts but I can't double bass at all and my blasting goes off time too much

death metal really isn't that hard to play all around, it's about songwriting and riffs with substance

masada 09-30-2008 03:04 PM

tru

you dont REALLY need double bass just dont try playing that stuff until you can actually do it consistently

what kind of blasts do you want to do, the unison or 'alternating'

the latter ones arent v hard to get down well
