tell me how?
Well, Randy of Lamb of God has a more deep screamy style of vocals, and they rely on cool riffs rather than a catchy hook. They are a little bit heavier too, and don't have the generic metalcore breakdowns as much. Plus they give a completely different vibe when listening to them. Killswitch Engage's Howard has a strong chest voice that he uses alot more when singing. Also he uses a yelling type of technique but some times does the high pitched scream too. The band also does alot of generic metalcore breakdowns and they rely heavily on a catchy chorus. Lamb of God is a little more brutal but has alot less melody. |
Pretty impressive. You're now that much cooler to me that you own Sabbath, The Clash, GnR, Bowie, Slayer and Opeth. :p
I don't actually listen to Slayer, The Clash, or GnR anymore, but yeah, I had periods of time where I did like 'em. I got Blackwater Park because almost everyone I knew was like, "Opeth is f'n awesome", but I'm still trying to get into them. But yeah, I like Sabbath, and Bowie is very much the man.
I've not heard that, and I've got a couple of Chris Rock routines on my computer. What was that from?
It's either Never Scared or Bigger And Blacker. |
Firstly, I don't think Children of Bodom are racist. Secondly, I would listen to a song by the band, but I would not support it by downloading or buying an album if they are racists.
When did i say CoB were racist? I was just talking about Arghoslent. Secondly downloading a band is hardly support, its ripping them off :p I can totally understand the idea of not wanting to buy it though |
You need some Quo Vadis, they are a must if you like melodic death.
songs to check out : Break The cycle Silence Calls The Storm Dead Mans Diary On the Shores of Ithaka I Believe Borknagar = black/progressive/folk all mixed into one
Yeah! Someone recommended Quo Vadis to me in the death head thread. I got I Believe, On the Shores of Ithaka and another one (I can't remember the name). Good stuff. Arucard - Senses Fail. Pretty cool. What, hardcore or something? |
Bobo, what kind of music is Borknagar exactly? I was under the impression it was Melodic Black.
And for Quo-Vadis add Elements Of The Absolution Pt.3 to that list.
Black Metal has always been melodic to me..... |

Disregard what I said. I read stuff way too fast for my own good. My apologies. |
It's either Never Scared or Bigger And Blacker.
Must be Never Scared then, I think. Thanks. |
Bartender: It could also be Bring The Pain. I'm straining to remember my Chris Rock standup routines.

Arucard - Senses Fail. Pretty cool. What, hardcore or something?
Im not entirely sure, but they are definatly not Hardcore. Hardcore is a sub-genre of punk, and Senses Fail have very little to do with punk. For me, they are more Pop-Punky. |

I'd download it but ignore the lyrics. Also if you want somthing really cool, try Necrophagist. |
Bartender: It could also be Bring The Pain. I'm straining to remember my Chris Rock standup routines.
I'm pretty sure it's not Bring the Pain or Bigger and Blacker, since they're the two I have, and Bring the Pain was actually my first introduction to him. I'm pretty sure it's not on the Born Suspect CD either, but I don't listen to that as much anyway, so I could be wrong. |
Then try some Equilibrium, a power metal band similar to CoB from Germany, just viking metal instead. Try these songs : Sturm Met Unter Der Eiche Wingthors Hammer /runs Gotta leave for work, later. |

Well, I saw it on a special so I don't think it's on a CD. It's on a real recent one because he bashes Lil' Jon in it. |
Yeah, I'm not sure if Bring the Pain of Bigger and Blacker are on CD either. Anyway, thanks for letting me know it exists, at least. I'll try and have a look around for it.

Ray: I just glanced at your cd collection and was surprised to see Blackwater Park there......
Among all the classic rock and rap Opeth kind of seems wierd but still makes sense. |

It's definitely worth looking for, I have to say.
Ray: I just glanced at your cd collection and was surprised to see Blackwater Park there...... Here's my cd collection, for no apparent reason.

Ah, yeah. I'm trying to get into the harder/heavier parts, too. EDIT: Aaron, nice collection |
Soon you will tolerate the growl, and then evenutally crave it.
|
I prefer the growling to his normal singing voice, actually

album list because it's trendy |
on racism in metal-
In BM circles, you see alot of bands that have racist beliefs, especially in the subgenre NSBM, I haven't really heard any of their music, and would perhaps feel a little uneasy doing it, mind you I listen to supposedly satanist bands and don't feel uneasy, and I listen to Varg who IS racist, I dunno, I just leave people's beliefs out of it because, although I really dislike racism, a prevalent opinion in a country school where there are about 3 black people in the school, I love Varg, for example's music... that was a bit confused, sorry |
Thanks Ray.
I find myself liking Orchid and Morningrise a lot more than the other Opeth albums. Blackwater Park seems to be more aggressive in comparison to the other two. Orchid is hands down my favorite, I love the melodic, flowing riffs it has, and while the double bass rules, I also really like the slow drumming on some songs, like at the beginning of Forest Of October. And the growls are awesome, I definently can see myself craving them. /listening to Orchid now. Unbelievable. |

Same here. |
I've heard Blackwater Park and ****ation, but I didn't really like either.

album list because it's trendy
Hurray, I started a trend. Only two Bowie albums? Die. Or get more Bowie albums, it's up to you. The only songs off either of those that I have heard is "To Bid You Farewell", which I kinda liked. |

"To Bid You Farewell" is what made me check out Morningrise. My friend did a cover of it for a talent show, and I love the bassline in the first section. |
Opeth seem to be the non DM liker's DM band if you know what I mean...
