Start with melodic death and maybe metalcore bands and such things.

IE :

In Flames
Dark Tranquillity
Arch Enemy
At The Gates
Trivium
all That Remains
Lamb of God

etc etc

Then work in harsher and harsher vocals from other bands slowly.

AA-12 07-27-2005 11:06 PM

Well, he likes that but not growling vocals such as death metal.

slaughteredfirst 07-27-2005 11:08 PM
Well, he likes that but not growling vocals such as death metal.
So you want him to get into Death metal.

You sort of just have to grow to like that.

Try some Morbid Angel at first.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-27-2005 11:09 PM
IS The New Order any good by Testament
Its probably their second best. Get The Legacy if you don't have it already.
Well, he likes that but not growling vocals such as death metal.
start him out on some Death maybe?

Give him some Lord Worm era Cryptopsy, and if he can handle that and like it, he will like pretty much any death metal vocals.

Other then that, I might give more suggestions later, but for now I have no idea other then just diving right into death metal growls.

punchintheface11 07-28-2005 12:19 AM

does the avenged sevenfold song have n e thing to do with hunter s thompsons fear and loathing in las vegas? That band sucks as s anyway

Mind Revolution 07-28-2005 01:25 AM

can someone recommend me some kamelot and dragonland songs? thanks

Freezing Moon 07-28-2005 01:29 AM
Well, he likes that but not growling vocals such as death metal.
Force feed it to him, it's the only way. :p

Play him some Lord Worm era Cryptopsy, and anyting else with really brutal vocals.

If that doesn't work, you could always try Death, and Morbid Angel for starters.

Stoic 07-28-2005 06:32 AM

I would definately not recommend Cryptopsy and Lord Worm to a DM newbie. Try Quo Vadis - Legions of the Betrayed.

Grey Incision 07-28-2005 06:52 AM

TSASI, i really do think if you want to get him into growling, start with softer opeth, work in some heavier opeth, move onto bloodbath, then continue until you reach lord worm era cryptopsy

Stoic 07-28-2005 06:57 AM

actually, even if you're not a DM you might find it hard to get used to Lord Worm

For Dragonforce I would definately go with Sonic Firestorm and for King Crimson I only have Discipline but that is a great album. I hope this is some help to you :)

I can pretty much sum it up by saying that Ritual De Lo Habitual is all that you need to get in my opinion, even though some of the songs are a bit too long. I haven't really heard any of their other stuff that's grabbed me to be honest.
123, Ritual De Habitual is an excellent album, but don't get me wrong, it has it's faults...

Unusual request time.

Give me any good, must have albums by any R&M band that begins with the letter 'E'

I've noticed a noticeable gap of any bands with such a letter in my collection, and im sad enough to want to fill this gap.

clearvision 07-29-2005 12:14 PM

I only have Eminem in my collection, though there is some bands i have heard of...

Everclear - pop/punk i think so not really RnM
Evergrey - some kind of prog metal/rock i think...
Extol - Nu Metallish? Moses is a fan of these...have words with him.

Apparently that's another filter.

pornograffitti.

Also, try Echobrain. They may be worth a shot.

The Eagles? :)

Also, if you sort by first name, there's Elvis Costello (This Year's Model), Elliott Smith (Either/Or), and Elton John (Goodbye Yellow Brick Road).
You ever listened to Explosions In The Sky, Ben? .
Those 2 were the ones that came to me about 5 seconds after posting. Cheers for recommending an album med too.

I can steal enough Eagles from my parents without having to buy my own. :)

Purple Floyd 07-29-2005 02:01 PM

I just bought Follow The Reaper, and I love it. I have only verry recently been getting into metal, straying from my prog and classic rock roots. I also love the Jester Race by In Flames.

Can anyone reccomend some more bands/albums similar to these?

Follow The Reaper 07-29-2005 02:10 PM

Well you mighht like some other albums by CoB, like Something Wild, Hatebreeder, or Hate Crew Deathroll. But I think that Follow The Reaper is CoB's best work.

For similiar stuff to COB try Kalmah - Swampsong, and also material By Wintersun and Norther.

For similar stuff to In Flames try stuff by Dark Tranquility.

MAthiAS 07-30-2005 10:47 PM

Someone recommend me Skid Row, Kiss, and Allan Holdsworth.

Purple Floyd 07-30-2005 11:11 PM

For Skid Row:

Check out their Self-Titled album, the Song Youth Gone Wild is one of my all time favorites.

For really unique covers try anything from French Can Can by Carnival in coal.
They're labelled as sort of avante garde metal, and do really interesting covers.
