The miscellaneous thread's first few pages seem dominated by the offshoots of punk like emo and screamo, or rap or reggae. These are all popular music styles that don't fit the other forums. Classical and all of its permutations and evolutions is big enough that it deserves its own forum for those that want to talk about it. This includes all the Celtic and old European folk that influenced the classical style and everything else. I'd post there big time, and so would other people. It might get a different sort of musician to sign on to mx, and diversity's a good thing.

There are many many more threads being created by new users lately that either don't belong in this forum or are asking questions that flagrantly break the rules. People are clearly not taking time to read the rules and explore the layout of the site to see which forum is appropriate for their threads and it's reaching epidemic proportions. The recent "Screaming" thread, which clearly belongs in Jam Session where they have a wealth of threads on the topic, is the most recent example.

This is getting really ridiculous. What can be done? Maybe link them to the rules first the second people sign up and ask questions making sure they've understood them before allowing them to visit the bulk of the site? Stafford Loan Service uses a procedure like that. It might work. On the other hand, it might be a bit too involved. All I know is that these threads are severely annoying.
I've got to disagree actually. I'm pretty regular in that forum, and we've had classsical music threads before, but they don't last very long, implying that there isn't really that much interest in them. Seriously, as you're relatively new here (unless you had an old account), you have no idea how long it took people to get an other music forum added, so I doubt there'll be any new music forums added any time soon, if at all.
That's probably true.

****, I feel like a noob.

The link in SonorKen's Announcement doesnt work.

Bartender 12-03-2004 10:36 PM

The thread he's referring to is a sticky in the Pit, if you don't know. I don't know if he wants to edit the announcement or something, though. Leave it up to him.

Mods, I have an idea on how to get people to stop being idiots, and making posts against the rules.

Maybe you could have a User Agreement thing that comes up the first time each person goes in a different forum on the site, that lists all the rules, and then they can use the I agree button once they've read the entire thing (a lot of things have it so that you have scroll to the bottem of the page to click, so you could use that to ensure that a lot of people will actually read that.

Kingofdudes 12-03-2004 11:01 PM

People will do what they do with the Terms of Use, they will just scroll down without reading them.

I Am Vikingcore 12-03-2004 11:16 PM

Yeah, but at least some people would read it, you know?

By the way, Bartender, you never got bakc to me last night, and I was curious to know how much longer my ban is for (Eleventeen).

3074326 12-03-2004 11:26 PM

5 Days, 23 hours left.

Bartender 12-03-2004 11:30 PM

Ah, sorry about that.

Cain 12-03-2004 11:37 PM

I posted a thing about the idiots a little while back. No one replied. Surely everyone would agree that it's reaching a ridiculously high level and something needs to be done.

3074326 12-03-2004 11:46 PM

We can't do anything about it.

The only thing the mods can do is enforce the rules. We have been doing that. There will always be idiots, and there will always be people who do not read the rules.

If you want a page of rules to load when new users enter a specific forum, take your suggestion to the Site forum. Bartender, SFK, Superpeer, and I can do nothing other than agree/disagree with the idea.
