Hey, I'm new here and I'd like to discuss some jam band stuff :) I started getting into them when a friend introduced me to Phish and the Dead. My Dad is also a hippy who likes jam bands so we've been to tons of concerts and even festivals together.

I recently moved to North Carolina. Next month I'll be seeing Perpetual Groove for the first time. I saw Lotus for the first time a couple of months ago. I also booked two shows at the new theatre in Raleigh. It will be my first time seeing Umphrey's McGee and Sound Tribe Sector 9.
I've really been exploring different groups lately, trying to constantly keep my library fresh. Here are some of my favorite groups..

Indie: Monsters of Folk, Band of Horses, My Morning Jacket*, Fleet Foxes, The Shins, Spoon, She & Him, Phoenix, The Givers*

Jam: Galactic, STS9, Lotus*, The Derek Trucks Band, Medeski Martin & Wood*, Karl Denson, Robert Randolph*, Buddy Guy*, The String Cheese Incident*, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones*, Frogwings, Steve Kimock, The Disco Biscuits, Keller Williams*, Jake Shimabukuro, Gov't Mule*, Widespread Panic*, Umphrey's McGee, Rat Dog*, Further, Grateful Dead/The Dead*, Particle*, Phish*, moe., Papadosio(!), Railroad Earth*, Shpongle, Tea Leaf Green, The Octopus Project, Yonder Mountain String Band, Toubab Krewe, Bill Frisell, Bruce Hornsby, Dave Matthew's Band*, Jazz Is Dead, Dark Star Orchestra*, The Zen Tricksters*

Classic: Neil Young, CSNY*, Steve Winwood, David Gilmour, The Beatles and their Solo work(Especially George Harrison, fav being All Things Must Pass), Peter Gabriel(Melt & Up are my favs), Eric Clapton*, Cream*, Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters*, Hot Tuna*, Tom Petty, Santana*, Love, Blood Sweat & Tears(Al Kooper), Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison, John Mayall, Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, The Allman Brothers Band*
Too much Classic Rock to remember and it doesn't belong here but I just have to share what I could off the top of my head since these people can play..

* = Saw them live

Umphrey's & Galactic jam together at Red Rocks

This is so cool, check it out:

Galactic and Umphrey's McGee are going to jam together (full bands) on one cover at their show at Red Rocks on July 3rd! What's even better is that they're holding a voting contest where us fans get to vote on what song they're going to collaborate on.

Awesome right?

anyone see any good shows this summer?

jpj 07-13-2010 08:01 AM

I saw Phish in Cuyahoga Falls and both nights at Merriweather. I actually just got back from All Good. Saturday's lineup was sweet - Railroad Earth, P-Funk, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, Widespread Panic, then Garage a Trois and Yonder Mountain late night.

nice man, all good looked like a lot of fun. i caught a couple of those saturday bands on iclips webcast, great stuff.

What'd you think of Garage A Trois? I caught them twice the week before All Good, crazy stuff. They're all so talented and the music they create together just sounds like nothing else out there. Really blew me away.

I thought they were great, definitely one of the highlights of the weekend.

awesome man. i'm an intern for their record label so i gotta spread the word and get people to check them out however i can. i just downloaded the all good set from archive.org, sweet stuff and i love their cover of no quarter.

check out their new studio album power patriot too. on this tour they've played pretty much the whole new album every night, so if you liked what you heard at all good you would definitely like power patriot.

Railroad Earth absolutely killed it at all good too judging from what i saw from the webcast. i've still got to see them live with the new bassist.
