I hate it when people use the "They've accomplished more than you so they must be a good band" argument.

Lunch 08-26-2005 10:45 AM

Both of those guys were pissing me off, but then I read Steerpike's post and just had to laugh at them.

Eh, it just annoys me that at first they are 'Heehee, we have skateboards, lalala, masturbation, happy!!!' Then: 'Hey! Everyone Else is sad and mad at Mister Bush, let's do that!' -- 'Yeah, let's do that'

*Insert black make up + sad lyrics*

It pisses me off that every fucking band I see has to begin with saying 'Boo George Bush, fuck him, he like sucks' and then everyone in the crowd cheers and grrr

Al: That list is appalling.

Rock against Bush dude! lolz

Yeah...I mean I guess half of me is happy that Pop-Punk style bands are getting more politically involved, because that hails back to its roots...but the other half is appalled at the bandwaggoning occuring. Unfortunately, even Punk is like that now :-\

Lunch 08-26-2005 11:02 AM

I was just vaccuming in my room, then I stopped and turned it off to go to the bathroom, while in the bathroom, I hear the vaccum come back on, and I'm home alone. It was scary, I might've pissed my pants had I not been pissing in the toilet.

I'm on high alert for paranormal activity right now.

superpeer 08-26-2005 11:03 AM

Yeah.. But when Pennywise does it, it annoys me much less, because they've been doing that for years, but come on Green Day and the like, they are Fun Punk.

EDIT: To Vincenzo

I see. Yeah, it was quite a change for them I guess. But then again, they always had that underlying punk theme of "no authority" kind of thing. Maybe they're just expanding on that. Quite a bit. I thought the American Idiot album was brilliant, though. That's just me.
I used to think Green Day was pop-punk too, but seeing a VH1 Special on them...I think it was Greatest Albums or something and it was about Dookie made me change my mind. They're completely punk to me.

Arucard 08-26-2005 11:05 AM

Leah : Can you honestly tell me that Wake Me Up When September Ends is not the biggest piece of lyrical crap ever?

Well of course, it's not bandwaggoning if you do it before everyone else :)

Stuff like Green Day and Sum 41 doing it though, I know what you mean, but at the same time...I still like the fact it raises political conscienceness. Even if it's just liberal propaganda.
I see. Yeah, it was quite a change for them I guess. Dookie is Pop-Punk, American Idiot was more Power-Pop.

It's good, but it's so 'LOOK WE DO IT TOO'. I can look past that though, musically I enjoyed it a lot. But I hate that every fun pop punk band feels the urge to be mature now and dye their hair black : Sum 41, Green Day, Good Charlotte, Blink 182,... I didn't really like the last two that much before, but now they've sunk to a new low.

Agreed. Ugh. I can't believe I actually used to like those bands way back when. Blink 182 and Good Charlotte and Sum41. Green Day is still fucking cool. There's only one song I can still sing along with, and that's Blink's Whats My Age Again. That's classic.

I enjoyed Dude Ranch by Blink alot. Its a great Pop-Punk album, but yes Good Charlotte is terrible. We Believe is such a bad song.

On top of all that, none of these bands (or comedians who do the same thing) ever have anything new to say about him, or even go into any detail as to why they say what they do say. All you ever hear is:

1) Bush is dumb
2) bush only won on a technicality so he isnt my president
3) he is trying to police the world.

Either support your opinions with more than just that, come up with some new stuff to say, or just do the world a favor and stop beating a dead horse. I mean i have been hearing the same three things for 5 years now, and bush still has 3 years in office. People are more than welcome to critisize the president, that is their right of free speech (if youre an american anyway), but seriously, say something new. Things do get played out and old.

It was really annoying knowing that they dont even have any CDS yet they have an ipod and I have hundreds of CDS but no ipod. Then I got one so I dont care as much anymore.

I've had to clear music of my main iPod, it got full and started slowing down :\

I use my iPod shuffle for short journeys and to put full soundtracks on and stuff.

And yes, The Offspring are the best pop-punk band. Some great song, most of the albums are very solid.

My stepsister is the same way. Actually i heard her commenting about my choice to buy music one of the last times i was home. She was saying to one of her friends something along the lines of "My stepbrother wastes all his money on cds. There is no point of even having more than like 30 cds at most especially with the way you can download off the internet, because you should be saving your money for designer clothes."

Man did i have a laugh on that one

I'm glad I'm past that phase. I was really big into Good Charlotte right before they started to get really famous. Then that's when I ditched them and got into AFI and from there got into metalcore and eventually metal.

Lunch 08-26-2005 11:24 AM

So I spent way too much money yesterday. I had to buy some new clothes for this school year, then I bought Live Phish 14 (They covered Quadrophenia, I couldn't refuse) for $32, Family Guy Volume 1 Dvd ($40), and Scarface (it was on sale from $22 to $10, how could I refuse?). Plus I already owe my parents a hundred dollars, so now I'm broke after cashing my checks just yesterday morning.

Taste_My_Scythe 08-26-2005 11:25 AM

I think the only DVDs of TV shows I would ever buy would be SouthPark and the Daily Show's Indecision ones. Those I could watch over and over.
I think the only DVDs of TV shows I would ever buy would be SouthPark and the Daily Show's Indecision ones. Those I could watch over and over.
The ones i typically buy are ones that arent so easy to watch here in the US. Like although i own all the family guys for example, im beginning to realise there is no point because they are still on every single night of the week.

However a show like Red Dwarf, is practically never on tv anymore here (actually i havnt seen it in syndication since before i left for germany), so owning them is essentially a must if i want to ever watch em.

Arucard 08-26-2005 11:29 AM

Thats why i only buy anime. The good stuff is only shown on Tokyo Tv, which is really expensive and in Japanese.

AL: The Offspring are getting so old, and their greatest hits album is cash grab ++

NJMetalMeister 08-26-2005 11:30 AM

i still need to buy series 5 and 6, never got around to that. And word on the street (aka the Dwarf website) is that 7 is coming out soon.

But i need a job first, hopefully all goes well with this geeksquad interview on wednesday (and the drug test, eep).

That makes sense. I'd buy SouthPark, even thought it's still on, because I can watch the same episodes and not get bored. It would still be as funny as the first time. Plus, I've missed a lot of the show.

The tracklisting for The Greatest Hits was atrocious, but I figure that's because it was a greatest hits instead of a best of or whatever.
I don't know whether it was the 'Spring's idea, or their record company's.
